Hate Storm abusers =[ Hate being slaughtered by unopposable Carriers too. No, I don't think I have done Ultras/DSwarm, but it'd be pretty mean. They wouldn't be able to make a dent in it =]. | | #2 Ativus (proxy1-external.omhaw1.ne.home.com)[14638] | | | Yeah, one of my strats against a temp-heavy toss is an ultra rush with d-swarm support. Sometimes it works well, especially if the toss is relying soley on goons/cannons/temps/air for defense, which a surprisingly large percentage do. Of course, Toss have counters, namely Reavers/Zeals/DT , and even a lot of storm, but it's unusual for a Toss to have ALL his tech by the time you can hit him with ultras, at least in my experience. Best part of it is, to most scouting attempts, it looks like you are guardian rushing...and he might make Corsairs (we all know what sairs can do to ultras, hehehe) | | #3 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14640] | | | What speed was this game on? | | #4 Laean (dtkim.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14655] | | | you should've used scourge for the carriers (when you had the gas) instead of using hydras + defilers (i think hydras + defiler combo costs more gas than scourges), since it doesn't look like he had any corsair support. and yeah, ultras under darkswarm, with crackling support (since you ran low on gas), would've worked well i think. great battlereport by the way. | | #5 T.T.Boy (ncache1.ford.com)[14658] | | | Good report. Exhausting game I'll bet | | #6 ']['amaraw (203.172.21.187)[14664] | | Thanks for the replies guys.
It was played on the fastest game setting. And yes this game really took a lot out of me. I got really exhausted after the game. Never thought that it lasted almost 2 hours.
I did use scourges right after he made short work of my devs and mutas w/ storms. But it was too costly as he had lots of cannons in his base. I really tried to keep up the tempo but end up losing too much units.
I also defended most of my expansions but end up attacking him as i can't produce enough counter units to halt the arbiter, carrier & templar combo.
BreathHeart is pretty good too, and man he kicks ass with those combos and tricks. Storms rule in the hands of a good player.
We played pretty much the same way, we made a lot of counters. BreathHeart is 32 from US and i'm 28 from Philippines.
Damn i love this game :) | | #7 patheto (rigel.tct.net)[15062] | | | I think tis game is a good example of how storm is a little too good. Sre, newbies need it, but once you're good, your templar do WAY too much damage. My suggestion would be to slow the storm, ie. it takes longer to inflict the same amount of damage. This means that micro skill allows the zerg to decrease the efficiency. Note that I said 'skill'! But being good would pay off more for zerg. Currently it does too much for toss. Lowering the energy cost of broodling to 125 would help, too, but I don't think it'd be enough on its own, cuz you can't broodling every single templar he has, and 1-2 can do enough damage. | | #8 ']['amaraw (203.172.21.187)[15083] | | I don't know, i can't ask anything from blizz. I'm not a known player or even a good player.
I think storm was made to counter mass units from zerg during the early versions of the game. But i guess zerg is not the same as the old version of the game. But anyways, let the protoss players use them more. It will only help the zerg players to improve in the long run - i hope.
I tried muta dancing in this long battle. But its damn too hard, mutes won't respond quickly enough to my commands - i guess due to my lag. Lings were punished as they attacked structures under swarm by storm.
How about an upgrade to an overlord that makes it immune to storm and its current cargo? What do u think guys? Fair enough?
I tried dropping lings and ultras in a heavily fortified protoss base in LAN FFA - lotsa cannons, temps, some zeals and dragoons. Sending first 3 guardians in 3 different sides to fake the attack and to take storms while i drop 8 overlords full ling/ultra. Another 4 overlords were send a little ahead to take damage from corsairs. Damn thousand storms killed most of my units and OLs. Luckily my opponent forgot to remove his probes and lost them to storm too. Queens can't even take a chance to broodling temps before making the drop, too many cannons and goons at choke.
What i want to say is that ultras still have its limitations. Can't make it past heavily defended choke even with swarm. DT's under swarm works for toss too, especially in a choke point. Ultra drop is what i did and it costs too much. I don't want to wait long enough for toss to power and charge-up all of his temps.
I don't know how to solve this one, but psi storm is too strong for the Zerg. Protoss players don't need to scout and even think enough vs zerg. They got the most efficient killer support unit against whatever the zerg player throws. But anyways, toss players won't admit it and even skilled players, i too use storm a lot when facing zerg using toss. If its not that powerful why would everybody else use it against zerg? |
