| huh? The report looks fine to me. Its the width of the screen, which is a little unusual... Of course my screen setting are 1280 by 1024 so maybe some will have to scroll. The link on the other hand seems to have some difficulties (i.e. it doesn't work) Nice report though, really interesting game. I had no idea who was going to win. Your gifs are cool, especially the tank - marine trick. I am going to have to learn how to do that. Blue on black would not be my choice but hey whatever floats you boat. Keep up the good work and check that link. |

Great report!!! I love seeing Terrans win. This was one intense battle. Wow, so close. I'll remember not to give up when my base gets dessimated and have only a burning command center left at home.

I gave it 10 as well. It was an all-around excellent report. I loved the descriptions and the emotional feel of the battles.
I am a little upset about the disclaimer that says that some of the screen captures of battles may have been staged for graphics sake. But the author does certify that the game transpired exactly as reported, so I can live with nice pictures made up later to reflect what happened. But I would not like to see that as a trend.
Also I respect the author's honesty for owning up to that fact right in the report because I never would have caught it, unlike some of the graphics gurus on the site who might. |

Excellent report on an excellent game. Every once in awhile I play an awesome game where it goes back and forth and I don't know if I'll win or lose and somehow I manage to pull it out at the end. Games like this don't happen very often and it was nice to see a report on one.
Couple of things:
1) I didn't like the blue on black. It was harder to read. (Not that I'm one to talk with green names on blue backgrounds :-) ).
2) Staged pictures. I think that is gay. I don't see how anyone can give a 10 to a report where the pictures were staged. I admire the author for admitting that they were staged because most people wouldn't have noticed, but still... it goes against the grain of good reporting. Football players don't go out and stage awesome plays of the games they played last Sunday just because the cameraman didn't get the shot.
Still though, it was a great, exciting game that went back and forth and the writing was clear and descriptive. I would give it an 8.

The 1024*whatever thing isn't that bad since in 800*600 (standard) if you scroll all the way right all it cuts off are the menus which doesn't matter. Great br, especially from an unknown BRer (at least <u>I</u> never heard of you...) keep up the good work and the recreation of the pics was fine. The quotes were also great, especially the one about the cerebrate feeling the lurkers pain.

| I agree with the comment about staged shots. Hmm, well given the choice, I'd rather have staged shots than none at all if the authors feel it contributes to the report. But I'm intensely curious if the marine baiting thing worked exactly as they described it. It did seem "too perfect" to me before I saw the disclaimer... i'd imagine you'd have to be REALLY quick to move your marine to the lurker and get the tanks to shoot it before the lurker fired again and made the marine auto-flee or die. |

Tried the marine thingy with 3 vultures before it succeeded... :( And I was relying on mines to kill cloaked/burrowed units before I realized that it wouldn't work against Lurks -- thus no Comsat.. :(
Vultures with Ion Thrusters would work better I think 'coz they could survive more hits from lurkers and can be used to spot groups of lurkers clumped together... Nothing beats a good Comsat tho...
And it'd be a bit difficult to manage pressing prntscrn and moving the marine towards the lurk and firing if it weren't staged now, would it?

All I gotta say is I completely back up Dresfab on this one. I personally would not give this a 10 because of the things i've been counted off for before (and other reports also). I remember reports not making 10's because they didn't look right, and this ultra wide neon blue on black hurt my eyes so bad i had to copy paste into a notepad to read it. Whatever happened to the elusive 10 on this site??? I remember people saying a certain refinement goes into a 10 report, and when a report lacks it and still receives 3 10's, the rating system unfortunately loses credibility. I'm a huge activist of this site and it's staff, but sometimes I'm left looking at contradicting posts.
I go with dresfab on the 8. But I don't matter, so i'll shut up.

| Hey Drefsab, Egg-Foo et al., as you may know I am a big fan of getting the emotional feel of the battle through the eyes of the participants, or the eyes of the units. I got that from this report. I thought that this report was without a doubt better than a 9 report. And even though I have lobbied long and hard on this site for decimal rankings in tenths of a point, currently you vote in whole numbers only. I would have given this report a 9.6 or 9.7, but since I could not, I gave it a 10. I knew that raters after me would probably rate it lower due to each rater valuing different things in a BR. That's why reports are rated by mutiple people. |

This was a tough call... the writing was excellent, and it was easy to follow. Some of the design choice weren't ones that I would have made, but it was fairly "clean"...
...but I don't think this would get a perfect 10.0, no matter which five raters rated it.
I hate to sound like ~CattleBruiser~ here, but people are starting to take the ratings more seriously than I do...
There were some innovative tactics in the game in this report, and I was in suspense, and I could follow the action...
The design reminded me a bit of a style that you'd see alot in european/asian design in the early 90's (not done perfectly, but the solid colors and simple feel reminded me of alot of posters/magazines from europe)... do I like that kind of design myself? well... but other than the width, I really couldn't beef too hard with it other than based on preferences. I don't know what the author intended, but "if" his intention was the style I am thinking of, it wasn't all that far off. |

I'm not trying to be a pain the arse, I just don't agree with the 10's on this report. Everyone's gonna have their own opinions and I have mine. I'm at 1280x1024 w/ large fonts. The blue on black is still hard to read for me on a 21". The thing that irritated me is all the talk (now pointless drivel apparently) that refinement and little things make 10's what they are. I remember Drefsab being hit hard for his hard to read "Ahscar" and "Persian" in his last report. I bitched, I realize that'll do nothing, so i'll just continue working on my battlereport. It is however demoralizing to me at least to see a report quite flawed in my own eyes receive such high marks. I shall remain silent now and let everyone go back to their own devices. Ta Ta.

one tactical bit of information. IMO anti air should be considered the best way to stop mass hydra drops. dropping on tanks or even on bunkers will destroy the terran, especially if you have a bit o armor. but i sux so dont listen to me

| Wheee! I love to see the great BR writers duke it out to get 10's. Were I a real rater I would give this one a 9. It was excellent but had a few things that kept it from a 10. I like humor, this report needed more IMO. In particular I am a fan of little messages in the pictures. Also the colors werent easy on my old eyes. However I really liked the pictures of the competitors,t oo bad they weren't trying to look mean like WWF or something :) However, this was very well written, and the game was easy to follow, even at 2:00 am! |

I think that you'll notice that more 10s flow when a report isn't a perfect 10... example. Report is rated 9.0, next rater thinks it's not a 10, but a little better than a 9... sometimes that affects things.
I didn't find this all that hard to read. There was no texture behind the blue to blind me... it could have been better, agreed, but the report was very clearly written and easy to follow.
Maybe it's not fair, but I give higher marks to people who don't try to do too much with graphics opposed to people who do too much and fail.
I think there are a few people who can add affects and whizbang type stuff to pics without f'ing them up. EggFoo is one of them, though sometimes I question the chosen style, at least it's done professionally, and the style gets carried through all the pics, which is important.
This report doesn't try to be too fancy. It's only flaws are width and color choice for the type... that's why it didn't get a ten across the board in my opinion.
FYI - To the author... reports only get nitpicked like this when they are really good, so don't be offended. I got mine nitpicked to death alot of times and do the same to the best reporters. |
