| Cashew-of-Doom: I used to write sci-fi/fantasy novels on my spare time when I was in school, and did quite a bit of critiquing. If you'd like, I can give you commentary on your story, although I'd mostly be focusing on grammar and word choice versus your actual storyline. Let me know if you're interested :-b: I won't give unsolicited advice because it's sometimes received poorly. |

| Thanx guys, shock, I'd love that, e-mail me at random523@hotmail.com if you don't wanna post it here, either is fine by me... I realize the grammar isn't the best, and some of the words aren't right, but I made this short story in about 2 hours while I was supposed to be studying for some exams.... But hell, I still did good on the tests, and I got other stuff accomplished too. Thanks for the comments again guys, it makes me want to write more stuff. |

Kinda flattering... I'm just glad he asked permission and showed us the story before posting. (although I never thought it'd be in the reports section...)
We have the Rook character pretty much created. Cashew did a pretty nice job describing a possible scenario of a young Rook, first developing his stuborn fearlessness and determination.
It's a little uncomfortable when someone wants to write about a character you created, because, for example, I could write a Phoenix Legion Chronical and TOTALLY Change the personality of the main character, which could then hurt .Praetor's readers by confusing them as to what is really the creator's intent. On the other hand, when someone does a nice job like this, it's pretty flattering too. There is a fine line in situations like this, especially where a character is identified with a site. I didn't think Cashew was going to post this here, but on his own site instead... still, it's a quality piece.
It's nice that Rook is such an interesting character to Cashew.
What do you think .Praetor? Interested to hear what you think given that you have created several running characters yourself. |

Hey that was a fun read. I took a creative writing class back in college and you probably would have gotten an A for this one. Pretty nice stuff.
I can understand YRM's viewpoint. When you create a character yourself you don't like other people "fleshing out" the character's personality. know what I mean? While this story was cool, it's hard to say its an "official Rook" story.. Catch my drift? For instance what if we don't want Rook to be a dragon. Etc... |

Oh crap, I thought that you knew I would post it here YRM..... I don't have a page to put it on, here's the best place I know of to put it up and get feedback on it and stuff. E-mail me if you don't want me to put more Rook stuff on this page.. because since people seem to like it I'm gonna make more if you guys don't mind.
Thanks Prae, your likingness ( not a word, I know ) of this story makes it all worthwhile. |

Well, I liked what he did here... I guess we'll just call'em unofficial and leave it at that.
It's not like Rook is Luke Skywalker and you need official sanction, heavy editing, and accuracy to time and story in order to be allowed to use him in a book or something.
Working at a job like mine makes you sensitive to this kind of stuff, which can result in legal action and stuff... but this is just a hobby, and we aren't asshole lawyers.

That was intresting to read about Rook, Presented well with a good story line, but maybe just maybe since he's not my charactor, but YRM rook should have a more credited weapon then a knife. Just imo, i don't know an IZU? heh j/k, Great report on a fantastic charactor!! Keep em coming

I agree with you YRM, in that it was a good scenario for Rook's early life. And I understand the flattery you feel, while simultaneously your inner-self screams, NO! HE'S MINE.
I would commend Cashew for e-mailing you first. I had wondered about that myself when I started reading the story.
I think it is appropriate for this to be an "unofficial" story. Perhaps if Cashew wants to post again here, he should put a disclaimer at the top. If YRM, Mark4, and JV don't mind, of course. If they do, by all means put stuff up at SS:Omega Cash.
Nothing wrong with protecting your rights, YRM, it's good for you and us to keep Rook under his creator's control. I can't tell you the pain it causes me when I read some dumb story about Raynor and Zeratul leading some Fenix-rip off super-carrier against Duran's infested battlecruiser or some crap.
Well, this was disjointed. Oh well, I just got done with PL:C, no juice left in the mind. |

Thats some nice plugging there ducky. :-)
Wicked story, I would love to have more. It would be the forth story after all. So far I have PL:C, By The Clicking Of His Claws (a zerg fiction), and The Dread Company (a new one done by Snowreaver. All this and much much more at Space Station Omega, the place where Rook hangs out (err... not really, well... many a rubber ducky do!)
Whoa, I should stop promoting my site. Its just so good! */me slaps himself across the face* get a hold of your self man!

Thanks for all the comments, but I think this is the first and last Rook story ever by me. It's not fair to the creators of Rook, and I don't want to risk doing something in a story that screws something that they want to do later.
Although, this comment is pretty damn useless since no one is gonna read this comment section again =D |
