| Well, first off, those words homo, fag, and gay are not intended to offend those who are homosexual, and were not used in that context. If you take offense at it, that's your perspective, deal with it. I meant no offense to the homosexual individuals of the world. Secondly, I am Korean-American myself, so don't tell me I'm racist. It's not racist. It's just something that some people find funny, which includes myself. Even if Americans or Germans said it, I wouldn't care, I would still say huk huk and do ^_^. Live with it. Also, I'm not trying to be "cool." I'm trying to have a different battle report from the usual bland run-of-the-mill report. If you don't appreciate it, then read someone else's reports. | A little more on the word "gay." It's a social word now, used in a context different than those of the homosexual community. If you think everyone that says "gay" and "fag" are homophobic, then...well, you're a rather strange person, or an homosexual person yourself who blew the use of the word way out of proportion. The problem with using the words gay, homo, fag, etc., as insults is that they are still associated with homosexuality. By using them as insults, you imply that it's insulting to say someone is homosexual--whether or not you mean to imply that, that's how it comes across. The use of such words doesn't necessarily make you a homophobe, but that doesn't make it any easier for homosexuals who have to listen to it.
And to all the people who will undoubtedly flame me for this, the world has my deepest sympathy for having to put up with you. |

I was referred to this message by Pillars on Agent911's site. I think it makes a good point about the whole "gay"ness issue.

The point being just because using the gay as an insult is ACCEPTED, doesn't mean it's right. If you are yourself homosexual, and you
read that 'joke', you are not laughing. It hurts you. You are being berated for something that is not even your fault.
Basically, I'm sick of people using humor that only involves slandering or bashing other people. And furthering racism, or sexism or any
kind of "-ism". There are ways to attract an audience to a webpage that don't involve labelling and destroying certain groups of our
society.

I think Shock & Pillars have it down...
Let me tell you guys a very true, very, very very unpleasent story.
I have a friend. His name is..well, let's call him Dave. He's my best & oldest friend, known each other since kindergarten. Our level of trust is literally unreal...everything, EVERYTHING passes between us.
Now, a little about me...When I was about 13, i realized that girls were just great. When I was about 14, i realized that some men felt the same way about other men.
Frankly, I was DISGUSTED. The sheer idea of guy on guy...YUCH. That just wrong man....getting in to anal sex, oral sex..
ugh ugh ugh ugh.
For about 2-3 years, i was a closet homophobe. Sure, I didn't go around beating gays. But the words 'gay' 'fag' 'homo'...those were part of my everday conversation. I didn't mean anything by them. I thought they were funny. I disparaged those guys at my school who everyone thought were gay.
"hey man, that's just gay".
Then, imagine my utter shock when that friend I was telling you about, who I trust implicitly, who I've discussed girls with over & over & over again, tells me he's gay.
!!)(&*%!)&%*@&$&*!&*!!!!!
That sums up my thoughts at that moment. I went through total "culture" shock. I suddenly realized just how much of an utter shit I had been to these people for most of my life. I suddenly realized that they are people 1st. I realized so many things...
To sum up?
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with gay people, and EVERYTHING wrong with the use of the term 'gay' as derogatory. The words that used to flow from my tongue at least once a day now NEVER come out, if I can help it.
"that's just gay" now reminds me of my best friend, having to deal with this horrid cultural stigmata alone.
Pillars is right on the money. It IS wrong, just as bad as saying to some one who's just DT dropped you:
"(person your playing) = a gook"
or whatever derogatory term you'd like to include.

I'm gay, and I so enjoy reading this kind of crap. The whole concept of "gay = stupid" is a regular background annoyance in anything to do with Starcraft. I think it's kind of sad. When you get into the real world, most people don't give a damn whether you're straight or whether you're gay. Why? Because they're too busy living their own lives.
It's kind of sad that with the rest of the world moving on, I still see so much gay bashing on bnet. So, I've just started to take for granted that there are a lot of insecure 14 year old kids out there that just don't know any better. There's nothing wrong with being 14, but if you'd like to look a little more mature, you might try taking the higher ground, showing respect for other people, and not throwing around derisive terms just because everyone else is.
Because one of these days you're going to have an experience like fractal did, and realize that gay people aren't as different from you as you might think.
