Dang Mark4, you are a reporting firecracker. I am having severe trouble focusing on report writing, due to the fact that I had this new job offer to deal with and the game that Johnny and I are working on to think about. This report was great. Maybe one of the most enjoyable reports I've ever read.
When I get as pissed off as NNT, I just turbo-concede and log-off before I make a jackass of myself and say stupid shit like that. Especially when people are recording it... sheesh.
Protector-of-Aiur and I beat Roku in a game when his partner sucked and left really early for minimal reason. It was still a bitch of a game. He nuked Protector alarmingly soon, while still having defenses to hold a lowtech 2-1 rush.
I ended up sequentially dropping all of his expansions with a 6 reaver drop that was only 3 by the last one while Protector and the rest of my units attacked the front door. I've never seen a guy make so many SCVs in my life, and I have to say that I was proud NOT to lose a 2-1 situation to him, cuz he's good.
I'd like to see Mark4 vs Roku, DuDeY, NNT or whomever steps up... especially NTT after he talked trash. ONLY MARK4 IS ALLOWED TO BE A TRASH TALKING BASTARD, EVERYONE ESLE MUST BE POLITE!

Nice report. It sounded like someone made too many mistakes to be a great game though... But, as always, Mark4 writes an excellent report. Something about your style is really fun to read. I'd give this a 9, if I were a rater...
One last thing...
PLEASE kick NTT's butt. That's all I ask. Is that too much? I can't stand attitudes like that. Sure, a little arrogance here and there is good, but come on, that guy's a putz.

This was a really great report. It kept my attention very well the entire time.

While reading the BR, I felt you were being unfairly mean to NTT. The guy made a single mistake (not walling in his choke) that cost him the game.
We have ALL been the recipients of 2-1 early rushes in team games and those make us feel like total newbies and a burden on our partners.
It is only while reading the after game chat that I realized the reason why you berated him so much in the BR. Namely the fact that he was a prick afterwards.
This brings me to the question of objectivity in reports. When a football game announcer sees a mistake on the field he states it. He doesn't say the player has no skillz or that he is a whining jackass even if that's true.
Reading the after game chat I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of him and I hope you did kick his butt in that game (The fact that you announced the BR was upcoming is a clue to who has won but...).
I just think your personal feelings shouldn't have been included during your actual report of the game itself.

Let me respond to Mr. Furious. First, 2v1 rushes are stoppable. If Kain and NTT had tried to double Roqu, they wouldn't have had a good time of it. The wall in would have stopped it. Likewise vrs Crow with his sunken defenses. Kain wasn't going down easy either with the cannons at his choke.
But NTT not only didn't wall in his choke, he put his bunker in what I consider the worse place for a defense vrs an early game rush. Add that to his early tank strat and you have a situation which top 2v2 players like X'Ds are going to take advanatge of. I stand by my criticism of his tactics.
As far as getting personally involved, that was his choice. He started whining for my doing an action I was required to do, save the game at certain points. I didn't care for that too much, but held my counsel in the game. He offered up a challenge pretty quickly after the post game conversation.
As far as who won the 1v1, read the report. Keep in mind that to get into i2e2 you have to be considered one of the top players in the world, so don't get your hopes up. And as NTT said in the 1v1 "You're an old man. You don't have the mouse clickspeed or reflexes to compete."
There is generally a good reason players don't go out of thier way to piss off reporters in sports.

I also standby any criticism you had of his tactics. In fact, At the beginning of the report when you say he goes for factory units without a wall-in, I immediately winced and groaned "Oh boy he's gonna get it..."
The fact that he whined also is reportable because he did so, and it is your duty to report these.
What I have a problem with is when you say things like "NTT finally contributes some actual help with a wraith." The sarcastic nature of that remark oozes out and colors the reader's perception. If NTT had not been such a cad, would that have read "Ntt manages to courageously scrounge up a wraith to help" which in a sense would also have been wrong...
Maybe I am just playing devil's advocate here. But we have to remember the power we have as reporters to make someone look either gay or godly with just a turn of a phrase.
About your chances in the 1 v 1, let me just say that between a choice of NTT and you as partner: I would pick you old man... anyday. Cause I don't need him to whine about what i sucky partner I am!

One thing I can't understand is how a player of that caliber can say that a wall-in wouldn't have made a difference. If you buid it correctly, your marines have only one way in which they can pass that means so do the lings.
Anyway what do I know? Heartcutter would be better to comment on wheter a wall-in is good vs zerg or not. maybe he can answer this.

I guess i just identified myself with the underdog in this case.
I have had people ask me not to report games when it would make them look bad. Hell, once both the winner and the loser asked me that because the game was won in such a gay fashion that both would look bad.
I considered heavily but decided not to report mainly because there was no way I could make the BR itself any good either.
Should I have reneged on my duty? People have the right to know if the map of the week is a gay map. saves them precious dl time.
Anyway I am rambling...

Don't underestimate the skill level of people like Mark4 and JV and others. They're not proven "top" players in the community, but I'd definitely have confident that Mark4 and others could compete with folks like NTT and not get slaughtered, perhaps win. I guess just by reading the BRs, I don't notice too much of a difference between so-called top level players and our own local folks.
I understand all the issues that Mr.Furious brought up about bias in reports. In journalism, we learn that by creed, you pretty much have to attempt to report everything objectively, but that's professional journalism. BRs are BRs, there's lots of "flavor" in them and I think sometimes it's entertaining (read Agent911's reports) unless it gets abusive. So I guess the question of whether it was "abusive" is the issue. But if a player is a jerk to you through the game, I think you're entitled to say a few words so I hope at least we agree on that even though we might contend that you shouldn't allow it to affect your characterizations of his playing ability in your BR.
And against Terran/Zerg, who DOESN'T build a bunker at their choke? I mean, that must be the most newbie mistake in the world, he deserves to lose just for that. Seriously, any player who doesn't bunker with his wall-in is just a pathetic excuse for a Starcraft player. (NOTE: This is an inside joke, Mark4 and I played a game against Terran/Zerg and I bunkered at my wall-in instead of my choke and almost lost us the game to an early rush :-( ).

Mark4 sucks. He hasn't beaten anyone good. Zileas stinks and was out of practice, that's why Mark's wins vs him don't count. He's never beaten Whoop or Heartcutter when they were playing their best and he wasn't playing his best I think. Mark and Johnny never beat Thorn and Schizo 3 in a row to my knowledge. It sounds to me like Mark4 is suggesting he beat NTT, but he must be lying.
Plus, Mark4 has secretly admitted to me that Ahscar owns him, so he must just be average at best. After all, it's not like the X clan has ever beaten anyone good right?
Additionally, when Maven invited Mark4 to come play some games at Maven's Haven, it was just because Mark was a newbie and they wanted to beat on him.
The only reason why, when Mark4 and I team up, that we've only lost a few out of very many, is because I carry him. Everyone knows how great of a player I am after all.

Do you see Jerry Rice asking John Madden to stop criticizing? How about The Montreal Canadiens asking the tons of reporters that follow them for a game so they can prove their are not pee-wee players?
If a guy wants to be called a professional he has to accept that there will be people called reporters who will follow his exploits and comment when he does and and also when he messes up!
Much like football, starcraft is a strategy game.This means that you can discuss correct tactics in given situations even if you are not a player yourself.
For instance in Hockey I know that when there is a penalty called you will have a few minutes in which you will have a numbers advantage over your opponent. I know that you need to have a line of good players that have been chosen expressedly to take advantage of that. Could I be on the Canadiens's power play? Hell no! But I can sure as hell discuss who should have been on it and no one has the right to shut me up.
Would NTT own me? sure, probably with an SCV rush too. But as a fan I have a right to wonder about his terran strategies in a public forum. That's what spectator sports are all about!
