My first comment is that the Submit Image tool didn't work. Here's what I got:

Warning: Unable to create '/export/web12/gamma/javawe/reportimages/2300/2339_1.jpg': No such file or
directory in /home/sites/battlereports/submitreport.php on line 118
Image 1 not saved!

Don't know why it couldn't create it, but it was just a little page curl image so it's no biggie.

Thanks go to my opponent ~silverknight~, who kept me busy for 1 hr 22 minutes and caused the death of many a Protoss warrior :).

And yes, I was the Protoss, not an observer. That's why the Zerg details start off a little slowly, and why I occasionally missed shifts in strategy. He'd built 6 queens before I realized he was going for Templar assassination :).

Enjoy!

I like this style. I thought you'd finish him off quicker when you killed 75% of his drones with that early zealot assault. I'm kind of curious as to how he managed to survive so long.

Great job reporting. A unique idea to make a text report more interesting, great job detailing battles, troop count, etc. It was a good read.

Not that im a rater or anything (yet ^^), but I feel that this is well worth an 8 or 9. For a text only report, this was extremely informative, descriptive, easy to follow and included a bunch of little things which only made it more enjoyable. (e.g. the references) Good work!

I think the reason your pictures didn't show is that you forgot to convert them to JPEG.

great job !! very enjoyable, consistent and interesting voice.

Sounds almost like an extended chess match, with heavy micro of small numbers of units at a time. Dunno why your opponent never chose defilers over queens, though. Plague and dark swarm could have made life more difficult for you than broodling, I suspect. Also would have made establishing and holding expansions easier for zerg with the defiler spells to help out, I think.

I've also found its hard to get and hold expansions on Sherwood Forest, and so easy to take them down when the opposition is expanding. :)

I look forward to reading your next BReport. :)

PS: Dom, glad to hear Shafe's will be reopening soon.

Pure Ownage, but I feel your limiting yourself Zed.

In essence, I think you should stray away from the "report" constraints and delve more into the psychye of the Terran,Toss or even zerg forces.

Open yourself up to the story-format, and I guarantee your writing will be 10 times as effective.

What I'm saying is that you have a talent--but don't feel constrained to make it a Starcraft report....just write a story uninhibited...I'd like to read that.

Bottom Line: No rules, write a short-story....

and submit it as a report...and read the comments that mean something...

So many comments...so little time...

First - thanks all! Glad you like it!

Everyone from Shafe's - It's like a class reunion all of a sudden! Glad to hear Shafe's will be back soon, too.

Caps - I have thought about writing a short story before. If I do it'll be listed as an "Other report" here. They actually take longer than doing BR's, though, and since I'm getting ready to graduate (I hope :) ) I don't have a lot of time for writing other than my dissertation. The text BR's take a couple hours max, and I usually do them during my lunches or during experiments that have gaps of time to kill. This one got done at lunch, except for the page curl thing. Which, unfortunately, didn't work.

I'm going to re-submit the "Diaries of a Colonial Marine" Report, which is more like what you're asking for, after I fix up the font/colors etc. But unless I get some extra free time I don't know how long I'll have for a short story.

Watch for Praetor's stuff - I'm pretty sure he's been writing a short story in parts for a while now, and what parts I read were quite good (I think I missed some earlier ones).

Token - Thanks! It was pretty much a chess match, and it took a long side for either of us to gain an advantage that actually lasted. As to defilers vs. queens, I'd been stuck going hard Templar thanks to his expansion killing, since gas was the only thing I could continue mining without long-distance mining. Since Storm>Swarm, and plague only hurts Temps but Broodling kills them, I think he decided queens would be the way to go. Although if it was me I would have probably done more like what you suggested - probably plague the forward cannons, then swarm and send in just 6 lings at a time to either kill the cannon or at least burn the Temps' energy. Or at the very least, force me to use my precious minerals on zealots or Dark Temps. After a couple of these attacks, if the cannon died, I'd swarm twice, once in front of and once over the high temps, then send in as many lings as I could to force him to storm his temps or lose them, or give up his buildings and save his temps in shuttles.

Fatboy - nope, saved it as a JPEG, non-progressive optimized.

Dom - :). Nice to hear from you again! Actually, my writing style just depends on the kind of match I'm reporting and the "feel" that it gave me. In this case, MAD just seemed appropriate given the way the fight went.

Confessor, Baxter, xero, disleckia - Thanks!

Dref - I thought so too. In fact, he said something to the effect of "well I guess I'm dead" but when that last zeal went down he had about 8 lings left (the 6 that ran across the map at first plus 2 left) and I had only 1 zeal because I was going to expand. So I was actually expecting a counterattack and didn't send my zeal (soon to be 3) to keep attacking. I think my forcing him to get his pool first before his second hatch meant that he had a lot of min saved up still, so he rebuilt fast. At that point, his taking down/stopping my expansion pretty much evened the game back out - I lost my early advantage in that blow and that gave him time to keep going.

Thanks again all!

I'm not sure if i'm allowed to share the "release date" of Shafe's, but I'll just tel you guys, it's in March.. *grin* after much procrastination and work, Mr. Mike Shafer is gonna open up Shafe's after the downtime his school is gonna experience... *hint* hehe
at least that's what he *says*... d:P

btw, i read your colonial marine report, and i didn't have any troubles with font, text wrapping, or whatnot.. *shrug* maybe it's just my comp.. but it was a *great* read

please continue to play and write... *grin* i look forward to summer, when i'll have time to actually write up breports like old days... d:)

Dom

P.S.- it *is* sorta funny how all of a sudden, old-timer Shafers are appearing at breport.com.. hehe... Shafe hopes to "win" you guys back though.. d:) g/l to all you guys!
