I'd like to thank Lord Venom for posting the report ... he did an extremely good job of providing a feel for the game, and describing the battle. I think my fatal mistake at the very end was to not build EMines to counter his attack. I hadn't selected EMines as a StarShip type to build (you're limited to 6) so I was stuck having to try and defend with high-priced Drones and I ran out of resources.

Anyway, I hope some of you check out the game. I know, the graphics could be better, and I'm committed to improving the quality in subsequent releases. My main goal is to try and provide simple, fun strategy games for Windows that are pretty easy to pick up, but offer some deep possibilities in terms of game play. Once again I'd like to thank Lord Venom for helping convey the flavor of the game :)

It looked like a very good report and the game was different but I don't play it so had some trouble understanding. To make it easier for some of us you could do a simple guide to the game explaining some of the strats and units. That would help a lot and I hope that you write more.

Hey ya'll,
I hate it when graphics become the centrifugal point of a game. Play it longer and you will get a better feel for it. Few games I have encountered have offered such a simple interface yet complex challenge. Last decade? That's a bad thing? Whatever happened to the Atari and Nintendo games I used to love? 3D came out. If you like strategy at all, try all of his games. How many games have more than 20 ship types but only 6 to be able to choose? Command and Conquer games have a lot, but don't the two forces seem very similar? not so in Solar Vengeance. Check it out, Graphics don't matter, and besides, the new screenshots of the next version look much better. IF you really do like strategy. don't tell me this game deserves any less than a 10. Oh, and i'm working on music for the new release in conjunction with Glitch, so rule it will.

A good report and you have given a feel for the game but im afraid i still didnt understand all of it.the graphics do suck but graphics are not everything. thing back to titles like reach for the stars on the c64 or titles like defender of the crown. I agree with raging~kozak in that perhaps a simpler introduction would have been better.

If the eyecandy was all that made the game then the entire train of C&C junk would be worth the price they charge. It isn't and it doesn't.

This game requires you to think. That leaves a whole lot of ppl out I realize but hey......

Solar Vengeance has an intuitive interface, smooth play, good graphics which will be improving with each version iteration like everything else does, built in FREE multiplayer support, map designer/scripting system, A/I designer/scripting system, excellent support, A/I dueling and on and on.

If it's not for then it's not for you. Thanks for checking it out. But don't just post a deep, incitefull, thought provoking commentary like "Those graphics suck!". Show us your game...??? Uh huh thought so.

The game is kind of like a chess game set in space. Each of the "pieces" has unique capabilities and weaknesses. The biggest challenge is deciding which of the pices you will use in your game. I've reached close to the top in the Hall of Fame in this game, but I have to get back in and start playing again. I took a little break recently. Nice report, Lord Venom!

This is a game that you HAVE to play multiplayer to really get a feel for. Its very much like a board game, more then a war game, you really do have to employ very good strategy for it to work. The multiplay gets pretty intense. For people who only like eyecandy, thats fine, but for people who want to play a game with an intellegent challenge give it a try.

I read the report, bought the game, and I've had a lot of fun. It is a fascinating challenge on many levels. At a minimum you have to consider:

Tactics: combined arms often work best, but can you co-ordinate ships with different capabilities? In the battle report the Inkspots are great intelligence ships with no attack. Startilleries have a good long-range attack, but die quickly if the enemy can reach them. Many ships are cloaked and cannot normally be seen, so you need a screen of Inkspots... but that screen requires a web of patrol orders.

Ships: there are 20 ship types, but most of them have 20 possible engine levels and many have 20 weapon levels. Should you buy lots of cheap fodder, or rely on a few fast, big ships? Either choice has a counter. Two slow Inkspots beat one fast Inkspot, but only the fast Inkspot could reach an enemy defended by Startilleries.

Stars: for resources you need to take stars, and this requires Warships. But Warships are vulnerable to bigger Warships, or to cheap one-shot Drones. Should you build a quantity or quality? You can't afford both...

Couple these finely-balanced challenges with the possibility of playing strong AIs with many different characters (or of rolling your own) and great multiplayer support, and you get a great game.

I was playing SV4 for 5 years now. I think the initial release of SV4 is about 10/17/99.

I was playing SV2 since 1996 and i still know how to play it.
SV4 provides more mouse and keyboard control than SV2.

I made an AI called ED Triple Play, and it beats ED Kiss and ED-Ellen constantly.
