| Wow. Not only a same-race matchup, but same strategies too. Early zealot clashes, followed by goon clashes, followed by goon-reaver and reaver drops... is there any PvP strategy that can beat reaver-goon? I'd hate to think there was only one way to play Protoss versus Protoss, but I can't really think of a strategy that would counter effectively in the early game. Maybe templar/storm, or mind controlling the reavers... |

The thing that confused me the most was your switching back and forth between player name and color (i.e. <font color=orange>Radonn</font> attacked with goons, and then <font color=orange>orange</font> brought in a reaver).
Also, I don't understand how red's 1 reaver, 1 goon drop was so devastating when in the previous pic, orange had 10+ goons and reavers.
You had some well chosen screenshots and the layout was good. I would just like to see more details.

| Ya, I think I messed up on some of the colors, switchin em n shit. I was kinda tired. As for the drop, radonn couldn't kill the reaver and the goon because of his tight building position. He couldn't squeeze his goons more than 1 at a time to get to the drop. |

Nope, all PvP battles eventually revolve around reavers/ goons or templar/ goons :P
Seriously, though. . . those units are the most frequently used because they have a huge damage potential which helps nullify the enormous amount of HP that toss units typically have. However, there are still some strats and dont involve reavers/ temps.
The 2 gate turbo goon will own a quick reaver techer (see Wallabystein's "goon soup" report - Roqu woulda had the game game if he kept attacking).
However, the 3 gate misc. ground units will often beat the two gate turbo goon rusher. If I'm going quick reaver tech (1 gate) and i see them going 2 gate turbo goons, i'll cancel my robo and put down 2 more gates and pump misc gorund as cash allows. This usually allows me barely enough troops to hold off the two gate goons and allows me to rebuild much faster. The only problem with this strat is that it is very mineral intensive to keep 3 gates flowing so I always get a backflow of gas that I dont have the tech to use ( cuz I can't afford the tech buildings - no minerals . . . any suggestions anyone?)
.Praetors offensive assimilator/cannon push is also a viable (albeit incredibly annoying - and gay) way to win pvp matches. Just forego the gate and put a forge down. The OA your oppenent, pull back to their choke and throw down cannons. (For an example of this, look at Old El Paso's "battle of the praetors" report).
Well, hope i've been helpful with this stuff. However, i'd like to note that if those strategies dont win the game early on, then reavers/temps will still inevitably come into play and you'll have the goon/reaver vs goon/ reaver matchup again (sigh).

this was very good game
i attempted to go with a gate/pylon/pylon/assim/gate/core for turbo goons....but when illuvatar's nasty lil probe off assim'ed me i was forced to put down pylon gate/gate n go heavier zealots since and try to do some damage with a zlot rush since more then likely ill would be going quick goons and not make to many zlots..i did succeed with the zealot rush although the advantage was quickly lost. With my second attempt at an attack.
in response to dref's question, that one goon and one reaver lost the game for me pretty much. i had a large amount of goons and a reaver or two but all my troops were situated at my choke. A lone goon stood at my peon line to ward off a possible attack (two goons most likely would have scared shuttle off or killed it if he tried to drop...but im not too bright so i decided to leave obly one goon there) he dropped n made quick work of the goon....i was a couple scarabs took a blast out of my peons which clumped as they were running =[ i eventually got sum goons to ward off the attack..but the damage was done

Good report! I think maybe including some minmap shots would help alleviate some of the confusion some of the previous posters experienced. They also do a good job of bringing the details together.

| Good BR.....nice anime pic ^^huk But, the battle was intense. I think that a good PvP "strat" would consist of zlot drops in the back, while attacking w/ Goons, I am prolly not the best player out there, but 4 lots will devestate the pylons if the enemy units are busy w/ your units. |
