Well, the whole rating concept is not really a serious
thing anyway.
My text-only reports I thought were on a level
with AQD3's reports, which get about an 8 on average.
I'm getting a 4 to a 5.
So it looks like unless a report is under a 4, it is
worthwhile to read.
But for a newbie looking for a good strat it isn't always
the greatest thing. They'll most likely ignore my BR
of me and [SouL]-Deceiver, which really detailed a strat
that will pound most middling toss players. All because
of a 4.0. |

Well, I <i>didn't</i> rate this report... but I just wanted to bring to your attention that YRM's 10 reports all had speech bubbles. So you can include speech bubbles and get a 10<i>!!</i>

This was pretty funny. Alot of the stuff that Twip wrote, like showing exciting pictures or using medium length paragraphs often DO improve a report.
I think, Twip, that you are reacting to the wave of the "if six collages or pictures are good, then fifty-six must be better" type reports... and there are good reports that do that. It's just, there are other ways to push the envelope besides "adding more stuff".
Overall, the quality of reports has been getting better since the sites inception for the most part, but last summer, it was a real chore to convince writers to at least try to use good grammar and spelling.
As for speech baloons, if you're gonna do them, my suggestion would be to do them well... often times, they aren't worth doing.
Another thing that had me laughing is how Twip comments that no one is happy with reports. It's kinda true that the best reports get nitpicked and the worst reports get flamed and the middle reports get ignored.
All of my 10.0 reports didn't have speech bubbles by the way. The Age of Kings history series report was a total departure from my normal style and I posted it anonymously (for the first day and then gradually revealed my name after it was rated with my keen admin priviledges) and got a 10 with it.
Anyway, this was pretty funny Twip. I'd rate it too, but it's already got 5.
