and an apology.
I listed Shlonglor and T-mac as old WC greats. T-mac may have been a great, but I ment Shlonglor and Warblade!!!!
Apologies!! |

Pity it was such a poor game because you were doing a really great job of describing Warcraft. (Although it is still possible to over-saturate your gold and get all of your peons jammed up, isn't it?)
I haven't played War 2 BNE much since it came out, and there are a couple of reasons why not:
1) The introduction of the super-fast speed setting which so many people make games on by default. It just makes finesse attacks so much harder - and finesse in War 2 is more important than it is in SC imho.
2) A fairly small player base which makes it a lot harder to get a game together.
3) Games don't get recorded. My first two games didn't get recorded, which coupled with the difficulty of getting games makes things pretty frustrating.
4) A lot of SC is about the 'build more shit' paradigm. War 2 has this, but it's not quite as much of a factor because the auxiliary units (spellcasters and sappers) are more powerful.
Rating : 7 (huge for how poor the game was, I think you could have got significantly higher with a decent game.)

Cool, a war2 report! Got a couple of points here...
1: Expanding really is critical, and in fact an early expansion that goes undetected can spell disaster for your opponents. Like on Spiral High, I beat someone in the top 60 on ladder by building a hall farm then hall near the gold mine at the tip of the spiral. I ended up getting a huge advantage over them in resources, and they couldn't keep up. Just don't want the SC players to think that expanding in war2 is any less important than in starcraft. :)
2: Pretty well done in description, but like Strom said, close games equal better reads, although since this was mostly explaining war2 I don't think it matters that much.
3: Just some comments I'd like to make about units... dragons/griffons are good on maps where large amounts of gold are availble (taiga, ramparts, etc.), or if you have grabbed a lot of expansions and your opponent is insisting on melee units. Dragons+bloodlust/haste=gosu. Ballistas/catapults are good when used from behind a wall-in. As for beserkers/archers... I think you said all that needs to be said on them, they just don't cut it in melee battles.
4: Don't blame war2 for game recording problems, blame bnet. :) Although there were problems when the game first came out, they're gone now...
5: All in all, a good first effort. I would give it a 7.5.
6: Write more, I like seeing war2 reports. :) |

| I belive with the guy above. More War2 reports. I bought the game but I sucked so horribly at it I just kinda gave it up =/. If you could give us maybe a really good 1v1 game report, You'd prolly get a 9. This one deserves a 7. |

To address unit strats above: I agree about the Dragons and Ballistas, but those are both strat specific.
Dragons w/ huge DK support and ballistas with wall-in.
As for expansions, Peons can jam up and at a certain point another mine is neccessary, but let me point out that that guy who early expanded probably wasn't facing a two-haller.
I agree about game speed and small player numbers.
Another report will be forthcoming is a while. A long while. I play Warcraft rarely (too busy) and most players out there aren't that good. And I have to really motivated and bored to write one of these things.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad for the positive reaction to the subject material (WC). |

| Good points. I would never recommend early expanding on a land map against a good opponent, you'll have grunts down your throat before you know what hit you. And even on a water map like Spiral, where the second mine is very close to your start location, the risk is great... but the rewards are big if pulled off right. :) |

| Excellent report. As someone who used to play WarCraft and WarCraft 2, I really liked it. You also did a great job of explaining WC in terms of SC. And I'd try BNE sometime, but I'm afraid that my skills are so rusty that I'd never win:) |

| StarCraft is a more advanced game alright, I just feel that WarCraft still has value of its own. |

I think that War2 BNE is worth it, it's only $20 after all.
It has a different flavor than SC, so it makes a nice change. |

Warcraft is way cooler than Starcraft I'd give you a 10 if it weren't for the fact that you make Warcraft 2 sound like it's a rip-off of Starcraft. It's the other way around!
BTW Protoss=Orcs They say the same things in that other language. |

| I have war2 BNE and ill admit its a good game. However Starcraft is much better. death_head forgets to mention why noone likes to play as humans. Bloodlust, if you have even a little micro skill and you make a group of 9 ogre magi they will take out twice their number of other troops. And blizzard itself isnt quite as good as psi storm because it has to build up. Blizzard also cannot be used very often because if you want it to kill as many enemies as a psi storm you have to drain all your mages mana. |

| I have played war2 bne before, I also know this map, but come on, shouldn't you be playing old garden of war.pud? Or Garden of War BNE.pud????? Those maps can be really fun, you can do a lot more on them too, most that I see on all you need is a dual and blockin, that's basically all you have to do, block in and go drags. I see that a lot. On gow it is easier to execute power/rushes and dualing is a lot harder. Anyways, that's just my opinion. Thanks |

A very good report. 9 points worth.
The only negative point is the comparison to StarCraft, I found it rather obsolete. |

Wow, you're an old-timer from 2000. Welcome back to the fold.
Hmm, the game wasn't all that great, but it was still interesting. You had a lot of insights into the mechanics -- I never noticed the similarities between SC and WC2 (or maybe me = n00b)! You really should consider reporting again (no pressure :-o). Newbs like me could learn a lot if you'd do SC reports in a similar vein. |
