That was a great battle... I'm very surprised heart didn't put a couple tanks on the left side of his plateau to seal off the toss from leaving... That woulda made his containment hold. Sucks when your opponent has a hidden expansion somewhere that you didnt see though.
Also this reinforces my belief in Deep six sucking versus toss. Psi Storm is just too awesome vs packed infantry. I'll go M&M vs a toss early on, see if I can get an advantage with them, then when the storm comes out, I start switching to heavy metal. Or I bunker like a mofo,and put my large group of infantry behind the bunkers.

Basically, I've never been a fan of early goons or dt rushes, since they never really provided me with a long game solution, i.e. either they worked early or they didn't. I found myself getting beaten a lot by people who would clone Heartcutter's HM strats and contain, ledge, push me. So I started trying an early expo on 1 or 3 zealots at another main or a mineral only to give me the edge in numbers I need to break out of contain or a push, and it has been working surprisingly well I am like 15-3 with this now (good job that second game Bob). I truly believe this takes advantage of the lack of terran mobility (when I played Kak with this, he _found_ my expo, went to take it out, and I simply countered at his natural and main when he was sieging up and took him out, and he couldn't bring his tanks back to help quickly enough).
This was a great game, and I was impressed to almost lose despite a resource edge, truly a testament to Heartcutter's skill.

| Oh one more thing: this strat works better than HM than against infantry + tanks etc. Heart choosing to go Deep Six was the right call. Sure I stormed, but I could have done that against grouped up tanks and vults as well, since I was in the middle or his choke for much of the game. Most of the wins on this strat are against people who do HM. His infantry drops and ghosts really evened things up, it was the right call IMHO. |

Mark -- I lost with this build to a vulture rusher, and ever since then I take precautions to stop that . . . I either cannon ledges of main and exps with one cannon, or get goons fast (I think that's what I did this time). But yes, every strat is beatable, and I think very fast vultures might do it . . . again this depends on the Terran knowing you are doing it and scouting out appropriate places. Let me ask you, as a Toss extraordinaire, what do you do to break out of _GOOD_ HM contain? How did some of your games with Heart go -- were they akin to contain of some sort?
Toolbar -- I was doing a lot of stuff, and I don't have godly micro, so I concerned myself more with harassing his natural rather than stopping to get obs -- yes, I should have probably done it, but I gambled on my ability to "storm out" cloaked ghosts, which I did do to a few. Also, your estimates are way off, I lost probably 6 zeals and 2 temps to the cloaked attack, ghosts did other killing but they were not cloaked at that time. Thx for the input tho, it is a good idea. :) Also, I originally (foolishly) made the game on fastest and Heart kindly asked to remake on I think faster (check with Twip or Heart), so I did, because it is really only fair.
Heart was great in being open for the matchup, I just wanted to see how this strat held up against various Terrans, and I knew from posts on Shock's forum that he was curious and interested in doing new strats both from the Terran and Protoss perspective.
And one last thing. My terran < Anathema's Toss. I need to work on it a lot. =D

It was a great game. I died due to lack of resources. At the end of the game he roughly mined double what I did. I killed something like 240 units, and he killed roughly 260.
240 units. Think about that. Each of his units is at least twice as expensive as mine. That, and the economic model problems terran has made it a complete uphill fight from square one. Boy, I'm hoping for some good stuff in 1.08.
Now, if I had found his early expansion, or if I had equal resources, I think the outcome would have been a little different.
In any case, well played game.

Nice report. Yeah, PoA beat me with that once too - I was setting up containment at his base, and everytime I scanned there were more gates there, and I was like, "Uhh, where is he GETTING all that money?" :-b. I found his expansion too late, because he had snuck a probe out very very early before I had set up containment.
After that, though, I always scout the other mains in TvP :-). Of course, I've done cheesy things like that in PvT, as you'll note from my other BRs. Early expansion rulz if it stays alive. |
