A short, sweet battle report to write about... hmm...
I've been part and parcel to a battle or two similar to this one, in which my opponent has me up against the ropes and all I've left to defend with is a rag-tag group of beat-up SCV's scurrying about. The feeling I get while this is going on is that I should've built MORE MARINES and LESS TECH. But hey, that age-old argument of tech versus mass is for another comment box.
Tonight, I feel a bit less witty than my usual self and that disappoints me- those who've sampled my selections elsewhere should know by now that I'm prone to typing on and on, and leaving you, Gentle Reader (hats off to Stan Lee there) scrolling down the text, hopefully getting a chuckle or two from my words of wisdom.
What I'm trying to accomplish by writing a bit more than the norm is to GAIN RECOGNITION! Yep, I'm unprincipled and I don't want anything else besides the attention of the BattleReports.com staff... yeah, ok, joke's over. I just like to ramble on, really.
Now that I've worked THAT crap out of my system, it's time to go read a longer BattleReport, or, more accurately, a report about a LONGER battle... =) I must admit, though, that this one was pieced together nicely, and it gives me an example of what not to do against 'Toss. However, it also begs another question: just how DO the 'Toss get so much so quickly? Seems like those Psychic bastards are just that: psychic! Am I really that slow? Is twenty-nine too old to be trying to keep up with the aforementioned ten-year-old Korean kid? Should I be put out to pasture?
I THINK NOT! I'm just tired, got another six hours of guard duty to pull tonight here on beautiful Fort Hood, and then tomorrow, perhaps, yes! I'll get on Battle.Net, and go try out that Vulture thingy I read about the other day! Yeah, groovy, Baby! GRRR!

| This report didnt deserve the rating it got, 1 player totally dominated. He was dominating so much that at one point he sent all his probes to attack, then instead moved them back to base, yet still he was never attacked and had no ill consiquences. I'm sorry, the ONLY reason this report got rated it did is A) The rater is a well known member of your "community" and B) Featured "named" player(s). Favoritism gets a big 2 thumbs down from me. |

If you look at the reports that have 8's and compare them to this report. This is one is just as good as they are. The only thing about this game is that it was short. I had a choice between 8 and 9 I wish I could give it a 8.5.
I went with the 9 because of the wonderful quality and format that Mark has. It is amazing. Mark4 made the game as interesting as possible. I do not see anything that Mark could have improved on, besides BRing a better game.
But Mark has done that already. So this in itself rounded my 8.5 up to a 9. Ko

I dunno... There definitely is a bias within the raters, just as there imbalances in the game of SC. Some of us have chosen to live with the imbalances in the game. Others could care less. Some feel there is none. Then, there are the whiny losers who keep on using race imbalances as excuses to losing games.
This translates very well to the rating systems here, and like in SC, these race imbalances can be eventually weeded out and ultimately eliminated. I think providing more raters and having the raters not know who the BR's are by (some way or another, you figure it out. :P) would all help to further the cause. Also, I think that having 1/2 marks would make a very significant change. Notice how all the raters here were flip-flopping, generally between the 7 and 9 range, and because the godly Mark4 wrote the report, they gave him the benefit of the doubt in this case, and chose the greater of the possibilities, giving him the 8's and the 9's that you've experienced. <b>I think that the higher powers here should really consider implementing the ideas I presented to ensure equality and fairness amongst the site and its viewers.</b>
Also, I think there needs to be a greater specification towards what bases the reports are graded on. Should a garbage one-sided game still get an 8 or 9 because it was written impeccably without a flaw with clever smatterings of humor everywhere? Or, should a less-eloquent report get the same grade because the game was an intense, well-fought, well-executed one?
Naturally, a balance between these two points would be the best, but if it had to be biased to one side or the other, I'd personally favor the latter of the two. When I read a BR I like to see strategical execution at its finest, and when I desire such masterpieces I head for the gold section. I don't want to settle for a 2v2 on bgh with cannons everywhere or any crap like that. That's just sad. May be funny, but sad and not enriching in the least.
Casper's report was a true model of a great report. Very esthetically pleasing, well-written, humorous, but most importantly, it was a good game. It was 10 material. But alas, relative nobodies aren't able to pull 10's.

Hmm... I'd probably say 7.25 or so. Very good writing, but the subject wasn't worth writing about. Both players were clearly good and fought hard, but the Terran doomed himself with that early expansion, and the game was utterly one-sided as a result. If the Terran had pulled some godly strategy out of his ass and turned the game around, then it would have been worth reporting, but since he didn't (and frankly, I'm not sure what such a strategy would be), it wasn't.
Mark4 did the best job possible with the material he had, but you just can't make a top-notch report out of a smackdown like this one. |

um 6.5. I usually like mark's br's but this was too one sided ans short with no pics as stated bfore =P
the thing that acctually cranked up the grade was the fact that the game involved odd strats, like 2 cc
heh, never try that in a 1v1 on that level of gameplay =D

I know that I cannot do better....well, I bet I could if I were to spend time writing one, but oh so much more fun to play :P
This pales in comparison to other reports I've read of this guy's. You get a 7, only because I learned alot from reading Montaro's strats on his site, and he laid the smackdown. I just wished he'd have been Terran and knocking some heads, but heh....
The Terran in this game was, of course, a foolio to go for the early expansion against a toss without first scouting him out well. Gotta get them tanks in there earlier to keep them sicko goons out of the home turf. He could have built the factory, then two tanks, and been able to hold off a good sized army (as we all know we turtling little terrans can), for awhile. Time enough to THEN build and float out the CC.
Mark, try to get Monty to go Terran against one of the toss greats.....I love seeing him crackin' toss skull :)

All this 'rating by commentors' shtick makes me vomitous.
It's not like the raters are paid by the hour or whatever. So just give 'em a break; truth is they get paid a modest fee in exchange for which they sift through the volumes of crap in order to help the site's visitors find more readable crap and the occassional great report. *Yawn |
