Argh. I thought that this report was done well. It was sort of funny, but then the end came and it just got bizzaro. But it was done really well. The D-Hawk poll was hilarious because of the results not because 50% of the poeple voted him 45. But because not a single person voted him Cool. It was a good report though. You put a lot of work into it. So why not.

the pictures were very nice, but the reporting style was really fugly. i hate the sportsgame type of reporting (i fucking forgot what the word for that is, bleh), it's just usually filled with too much other bullshit to really get the point across, which is why i basically started scrolling and just looking at the pictures.

Wow, I'm really torn on this one. The graphical work was done quite well and it is quite obvious that tons of time was put into this report.
My problem is with the way that the actual game is lost in all the weird stuff. There were lots of good parts in this report but none of it really tied together and there were a lot of spots where the actual game was completely lost.
My mind is screaming 8 even though I want to go higher. I'm going to have to stick with that.

To Dref: Obviously there were parts when the game was completely lost, how can you tie starcraft to a sidestory about a hot blonde and her vindictive boyfriend? It's really not all that possible. As for it all tying together, have you ever tried to go back and forth on ICQ reading the same game notes, keeping it flowing without telling the other person what to say? It's difficult at best. The spirit of this BR is that of two commentators who are friends going back and forth while watching the game. It was meant to read like a conversation, not a piece of prose.
Also, AFAIK this report has a couple firsts for BR.com. 1) The first time that two different people have commentator-ed a BR (Dref's Monday Night SC was him, himself and himself..) and 2) The first map for download at the end, which if I do say so myself, isn't a terrible map.
As for humour, and the bizzare that Fox mentioned: Granted the humour is fairly random, and so are a lot of the comments we made about the players, but isn't the point of a BR to entertain? The BR's I've done are not meant to be read like strategy guides, they are meant to fill up 10-15 minutes of someone's time, and hopefully get them to laugh. Br.com isn't CNN, its more like the Comedy Channel (to me). Does humour not count for anything?
Also, if you ask the players (granted that they will be rather biased), you'll see that we didn't miss any major game events. Everything was covered in the BR. Perhaps not everything has a full blown image, flowchart and step by step procedure, but it's all there.
I guess what the question I'm looking for the answer to is: What are the actual guidelines for rating? Are there any, or is it just the Rater's overall opinion? Do you guys have a checklist you run down (mental or otherwise) before rating a BR?
I'm not trying to bitch and moan and complain, but it seems to me that there are several unanswered questions around here.

I was thinking like 9+ when I first saw "CynicalMagician" in the title. As I read it, I kept hoping the flow would, like start flowing...but alas it didn't.
This was <I> extremely </I> well done, but when you have two people working on a report, you have to be careful with flow problems. What the hell am I talking you ask? Well, I'll try to explain.
It seems that Slings wrote parts of it, and Cyn wrote other parts. Thus, jokes start mixing up and getting all confusing. (Even for me, and I can usually easily follow confusing reports). Hey, this is just my opinion though, so don't get too mad. Just be more careful next time you have two people writing. =]
All in all, excellent. 8.5-9 for sure.

Chinks: I did images, we both did writing.
Sonn: We both wrote it. We both had the same game notes, and we basically went back and forth on ICQ for a combined total of 4 hours or so each writing a paragraph.
Also, I don't think there will be a 'next time' for more than me writing it, or more than me contributing to the BR in any way. Don't get me wrong slings, I liked working with you, but I do tend to be a bit of a control freak, and it seems that although it was fun to write, it didn't turn out as well as planned.

Actually Cynical for me it's a little of both. I have a checklist and most of the time using that I can determine what kind of rating goes with it. But also my personal feelings on the game help to. I still haven't gotten it down as well as someone like Dref, but I am getting there.

I'm not trying to discourage you in any way. I think it was a well done report.
I, of all people, know that this isn't CNN.com. A lot of my reports are just downright silly (like the one where I did a 6 SCV rush against a 4 pooler on a ladder game).
When I rate a report, I usually go with my gut. My gut tells me how much I enjoyed the report. In this particular report, a lot of things were going on at the same time causing it to become confusing. I am not the only one expressing this sentiment. The confusion took away from my "enjoyment" of the report because a couple of times I had to stop and say, "huh? what's going on?"
I do not have a checklist that I follow, I don't have criteria. I basically rate on how much I "enjoy" the report.
Anyway, an 8 is a damn good score. Keep in mind that my "groundbreaking" Monday night report only got an 8.3 and that was with 5 ratings.
Keep writing though. Your graphincs are awesome and you're writing is good too. There's nothing wrong with humor in a report. It just has to be coherent humor that everyone can understand.
Hope this helps you understand where I'm coming from...

On the Latin, there was verb person problems as well, I was using "baby latin" so that people using an online translator/ cassel's dictionary could easily get the jist of what was said. It turned out that we gave the meanings anyways :o)
