| This was pretty good, I was torn between a seven and an eight. Deciding factor on the 7 was that the switching between in picture and out of picture text was a little off, and I just read Breeze's report, which makes this look terrible =] |

Mark, you're totally right. I read Breeze's report, and got a little downhearted. With my report and his right next to each other, I need a little sign with a down arrow that says "And Now For Our Featured Presentation." 3D-pictures, Flash movies, and world-known players to boot.
Sadly, I do not have 3D-pictures or Flash movies. If I have a single talent in this world, it's probably that I am resourceful. I screwed around with Microsoft Paint to get the collages put together, and drafted the whole thing with minimal HTML skill on Notepad. It wasn't a Clash of The World-Famous Titans, either. Above all, the game was interesting and certainly provokes a lot of thought about TvP games. I did my best to capture the fast pace and detail of the game.
BTW, the formatting of submitted reports was a little irksome. This report was originally done with white text on a black background. It looked great, and the collages blended in very well. However, I had a rude surprise in finding that those colors were overruled once the report was submitted. I had to go through my HTML and change all the font tags to black, and suddenly my collages lost most of their eye-appeal on a white background. My suspicion is that the notice above the preview page about the disabling of style tags was behind this. Could someone fill me in on these tags, please? I know nothing about them, but I have enough faith in the designers of this site that I am sure they have some reason for disabling them. I'm just whining because I had to spend an additional half-hour retouching my report all to achieve a diminished presentation effect. For future reference, how <i>would</i> I manipulate the background color when submitting a report?
So far, thanks for the 7, I'm already past my humble expectations. I look forward to getting some more input out of this for a better job next time around.

Great report! I was enthralled by your writing...it was like reading a good book you can't put down. Nice attention to details and a good sense of humor!
As for the background...I had problems with it, too. You have to put the entire report in a table, and then designate the table's background color. Do it like this:

Use greater than and less than signs instead of brackets. I'd put them in, but my freaking number three button is mysteriously not working, so I can't type the pound sign for the HTML.

Good report man, I liked it. Although unfortunately you did post after breeze, this was good stuff. You described things well, and the writing was concise enough, but there are a few things I would do.
1) minimap updates with every pic. Just plop one onto the picture where there's nothing going on, and we'll have a better idea of where stuff is happening.
2) What was going on with pylon mineral blockage in the pic with the dropship/reaver in it? Was it just me or did the nexus seem to be on the wrong side of the minerals? Oh well, it just looked a little funny. This isn't really a tip I suppose.
3) alt text is good.

well written, but try and use the align tags a bit more, and no text on the pix that should be on the br... if u have align="left" or align="right" on some of these, it will have the desired effect you want without uploading more pix =)
Get a new font size for you comments on the pictures... like "this ones gonna be good". Try and use a bigger font and a more contrasting color, as ppl without 20/20 may have hard times reading it.
Read the battlereporting guides for advice on how to place graphix. If you want a horrible example of graphic placement and contrast, just look at my first one =). Good pictures need to blend in with the background, and be in different shapes and sizes, with borders or spacing so you can tell where one pic ends and another begins.
I loved how you wrote most of this report, and i could tell u knew what you were talking about. Keep it up man, you'll make one helluva reporter =) |

Hard to tell where all of this is going on and who has the balance of power. The mini map can tell a lot, and helps us readers who have trouble paying attention without graphics to gawk at. Remember to save the minimaps as .gif's not .jpg's (i learned this the hard way) or they will just appear blurry |

I really wished in Battle reports (Not this one in particular) People would stop with the good old worn out comment "This has big pretty pic's so if your dialup blah blah" I have you to know my 56k loads the page in about 3-4 minutes TOPS, during that time I just go fiddle around in my room or grab something to eat or drink and wamma its done. so unless these are 50 1024x768 pictures. Theres no use in putting that in.

LilPaw, I don't quite understand your response. Is it a random gripe that ended up on my report, or something actually about my report?
TeCh, are you being sarcastic or stupid? I read your report, and honestly, it wasn't amazing enough to justify your remark. I asked for comments and input, not childish insults.
Lastly, I'm really looking for more input (again, nothing childish, obviously) from readers. I fully intend to have another report in the future, and I'd like to improve as I go. Is there any way I could get more official ratings on this report? Nothing wrong with the two I have already received, I just want a wider range of opinions on my overall quality. Do I hunt down more raters on bnet and politely ask them to rate my report, or is there another way? If you read this, reporters, I'd love more opinions.

This is very good I think. I only read half of it (have to run soon) but I'll finnish it later.
You were asking for comments in the forum, and this is what I think you could improve.
Make the report wider. Make a table with about 500-600 width.
Make the text smaller (it could be my comp though..).
Use more contrasting colors. With black text, brown names don't show up well. Instead of brown and teal, use red and blue (when those colors aren't used by other players ofcourse).
This report deserves an 8. Or to be precise, your writing deserves an 8, at least. |
