I think you are having serious problems connecting the two stories you wrote together. (What happened to the guy who was about to be killed by the DT?) If you are going to write a series, connect them. If these are separate stories, they are way to short and seemingly dull right now. I could put up with this story if you connect it, but the ones you wrote so far are only clogging up the main page.
Have a nice day :),

oh yah wlj? 5th with the screaming heebie-jeebies!!...gw on the fan-fic macbeth, but slow down man, theres a bit amny fan-fics out right now, possibly too much for an audience to even want to read another fan-fic. take it slow and make some really good ones over a little longer period of time, and the stories will probably be more successful.

| Oh great, another fanfic. Jesus, adjective overkill there sunshine. I guess English wasn't your favorite class is it? You don't need so many damn adjectives. But then, of course, that's the sign of an author who has no understanding in how to write. |

Heh, well said, MacBeth.
The problem with the "fan-fic fad" we are currently suffering through is that the authors are either very poor at writing or don't spend enough time to make a solid story. It's usually both.
There are good fan-fic stories, plenty of them. I think most of the people on this site, even the "empty headed yokels and (buffoons)," can appreciate a well-done science fiction story set in a universe they are familiar with. However, most of the recently posted fan-fics have the appearance of being written not only in an hour or two, but also simply for the sake of writing them. This reduces them to the equivalent of Bob Sagat's one-liners on America's Funniest Home Videos. I'd claw my eyes out, but I need them to frantically stab at my browser's "Back" button. Catch-22.
Your writing isn't too terrible. You (and other fan-fic authors) just need to spend more time putting together a solid plot before your fan-fics get significantly better. The latest craze may be to just imagine a gory death to an instant-protagonist and throw a quick rendition of it at br.com, but readers are getting very tired of it.
It's no coincidence that the fan-fics that are delivered in chapters and have a real plot get better reactions than the "i thawt of this in study hal and new i had to rite it" ones. This flurry of half-assed submissions isn't benefitting anyone. Stop it.
Enough. God I'm ranting...

| I appreciate the intelligent comments, submitted by phoenix and... suck it. I understand that I do use alot of adjectives, and if that offends you, than don't read it. As for writing in installments or chapters, I intend to do just that. Nearly every writer started with short stories, and this is one of those. I intend to publish a few more, and have an excellent plot line set up for a series that I plan to do. I am still an infant in my growth as a writer, and placed the two stories here as a means to get a free reaction from people who didn't know me, and aren't afraid to bust my shoes. Again, those of you who write comments, simply to bash fan-fics, get a life. No one is forcing you to read them, you can just skip right past them without a bother, and I'm sure that would make alot of people alot happier. And adjectives are a good thing, I am told and taught this by many teachers and authors, and yes I'll get right on that College English thing as soon as I graduate from High School. I wasn't refering to people who dislike fan-fics as slack jawed yokels, but those who choose to present themselves as uneducated dimwits, I'm sorry for any misunderastanding in my statement, and I'll try to be clearer from this point on. Again, I thank those of you who responded politely, and intelligently. |

| One more thing. If it appears that I use too many adjectives, I apologize, I describe things to a point where I can achieve some sort of stable image in my mind. |

* Sigh * You understand nothing don't you? Yes adjectives to describe the action and the surrondings are needed to tell a good story.
But overkill with them take away from the story. You want the reader to smoothly read through it and enjoy what's is being said without using too many adjectives. That's why I didn't enjoy it, cause you were giving me too many mental images, when all you needed was a few adjectives to give me a picture of what was going on.
Read some of Monty Pylons work, he is a prime example of using adjectives and dramatics properly, and only needing a minimum to give an image in the readers mind.
I would say read some of The Victims too, but I think he's a glue sniffer with his crazy whacked out stories. :) |
