to whoever made the comment about the firebats being from Earth, UED troops were supposed to be from Earth or thereabouts (I think). It was confederate troops, Sons of Korahl, and the Terrans from vanilla that were not from Earth. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll revise the story :P

| yeah....but all the UED were slaughtered by kerrigan and no ued vessel ever made it back to earth....so i guess the ued came back out to teach those zerg a lesson? |

In my SC universe the Terrans and Toss are just learning HOW to teach the zerg a lesson. I'm avoiding the original storyline as much as possible while still retaining the SC flavor.
I've said in past comments that the original characters are 'sacred' and won't be screwed with. Having it occur just after the BW timeline but in a different place is probably appropriate. Silent Witnesses is going to be 2 or 3 more installments at most. Riley's story would be a great place to start expanding on the big picture.

Why the hell did this only get a 6? It was better than the last three and they got 7's and 8's. Too much crack smokage I guess. We need more BR's anyway!!!!

I don't mind getting a 6. I would appreciate some constructive critique from the rater as to WHY. Maybe then I can improve the product so it is WORTHY of a 7 or 8. I suspect the serialized format has something to do with it. After this story, the next one is going to be posted as one large report, barring the 50k limit, but I don't think it will exceed that size.
Back in my days of writting for APA 'zines we had an 'egoboo' rating system and I never made it very high up, but people still wanted to read my stories. That is all that counts. The stories are not created by me, they write themselves. They exist without me even writing them. Sound strange, but anyone who has ever written an extensive amount of fiction knows what I'm talking about.

I'm not so sure, Victim. Sometimes when I am writing a short story, I really feel like I want to say something to the rest of the world, like I want to tell a story of how things truly are to me.
Starcraft fanfic is not a good outlet for a good writer. This report would get an 8 in my book, yet, what does it really mean in the end? I can barely make myself write a normal battlereport without thinking of what a total waste of time it is ( th e fans make me do it in the end ) . . . a fanfic in such a limited, materialistic, aggressive Universe as Starcraft just seems a very hollow, flat shadow of my true potential skill. |

| Therein lies the challenge. As a believable science fiction universe SC falls flat on it's face. It was never meant to be very deep. It is a VIDEO GAME. Some people have yet to realize this though :P The reason my stories of full of psuedoscientific rationalizations and techno babble is the attempt to create suspension of disbelief about what facts ARE present in the SC universe. There is no way in hell I'm going to have a single SCV building a command center in two minutes. I made what I could believable and discarded the rest. The rationalizations are extrapolated from current technology, currently conceivable technologies, and classic principles of science fiction. It is conceivable using genetic engineering and gene manipulation using retroviri that the Zerg could 'upgrade' their fighting units on the fly, but there is no way in hell it is going to happen in anything less than a matter of weeks or perhaps a few days. We all have to remember that while SC has some very interesting characters and a great storyline for a VIDEO GAME, there is a limit to what can be done with it when creating fiction that is true to the SC universe. Working within this constraint is more fun than having no limits. In other words, making SC fics is more fun for me right now than other forms of writing. |
