Very well written. There was one sentence that was someone confusing and each clause started with as, so it got kind of hard to read. Ah, it's the sentence at the end of Part III:
<i>As missiles exploded around him and interceptors buzzed relentlessly towards their targets, as screams of his fellow pilots erupted in his ears and blasts like popcorn peppered amongst the stars, as Protoss and Terran set their sights on murder and continued in their deadly game, as battlecruisers reached the forefront and massive lasers rocked against shield and hull, as all faded...</i>
I dunno, maybe you did that on purpose, but for me, it was hard to read because of the multiple uses of "as." It was still very well written. Good job shock! |

This is not a good fan-fic. Aside from its length, this totally transcends the connotations of "fan-fiction." This is a very good short story.
You have obviously done a fair amount of creative writing. Your style is well-developed and fits smoothly with your fiction. Your sentence construction, in particular the lengthy one Kralgon noted above, does a very solid job of creating tone. The changes in viewpoint were excellent and you used the 3rd-person-omniscient in the perfect places.
In short, I loved this. It truly deserves a ten. My only suggestion would be to expand stories like this, get your friend to illustrate them, and hunt down an editor/publisher. Superb writing.

The pics were drawn that way, it was programmed that way, blah blah, it was not meant to be a 3d game, and i feel that changing it into a 3d look does not accurately represent the designers best interests.

BUU -- I guess you must hate all of the in-game 3D movie clips, you must hate the title screen graphic and the victory/defeat graphics, you must hate the manual because the ships in there are 3D, and everything on Blizz's webpage because most of that is 3D rendering too, plus all the wallpapers that Blizz has on its website.
Also, from the looks of it, I'd guess that at least some of the sprites in the game were actually designed from 3D models. The SC beta pictures definitely look like they came from a 3D modeler.
In conclusion, every single graphical part of the game is 3D except for the sprites, which themselves may have been in part generated from 3D models.... I think it is ROFL that it's not in the "designer's best interests" to make it 3D (what does that statement mean anyway?). |

Proto, I am curious as to what your definition of 'bible thumper' is. Shock does NOT force his religious views on everyone like a 'bible thumper' would do if you follow the classic definition of a 'bible thumper'. I've been hanging around his forum for a while now, and he makes no reference to his religious views unless asked. This came about because his web page URL was traced back from pics he had posted. According to shockwave, his web page was for his friends and family, many of which SHARE his views. It was not intended for public consumption. I'll admit that I intruded on it too, but I'll be dammned if I am going to make value judgements of Shockwave based on it. My religious views would not be considered 'normal', yet I make no references to them. You were banned from Shock's forum because of a racist rant thinly disguised as a joke by the addition of a single smiley. Racism robs people of individuality by placing them into a category determined by racists' views. It is true that some members of any particular race exibit noticeable traits. I don't read much because as soon as something is no longer captivating I push it aside. Books are that way. There are interesting scenes of course but I never get to them because I get bored before. Kudos on keeping my attention the whole way through you're the 1st to have done that. (I've had mild add (attention deficent disorder) since I was very young which explains the lack of attention span) |

Wow, just when I was thinking that maybe the internet really is the death of literacy, something like this comes out and relieves me. Excellent job! Great writing and cool battle descriptions were important, but I think what really carried the story was the complex characters and the elaborate detail you used to portray the emotions they felt. Aspiring fan fic authors, take note of this--it's one thing to simply make up a story and tell it, but you need to have characters that are more than one dimension. Nathaniel's animal-like frenzy, Tar'Akon's epiphany, and even Pak'Elian's statements at the end gave this story a <i>point</i>.
I could go on, but I'll spare you. Great work.

| This is really good. I don't know that I'd go to the ecstatic levels of hyperbole that others seem to have used in praising it, but yeah, it's a fun, well-written story, and it's got more substance to it than a lot of fanfics. I love the battlereports themselves, but, between this and the work of TheVictim, Monty Pylon, and Praetor, I'd say that there's proof that fanfic can be done well enough to be worth posting here. Actually, maybe I'll take a shot at writing some fanfic of my own (I don't have the HTML skills to do a BR that would be worth a damn, so I guess it's fanfic or nothing.) |
