*cough* loser *cough*
we say hunter playas suck because they need "mucho money" to build stuff... they have no real knowledge of the game because they just usually turtle up in one base and go for carriers/bc's, or they double, triple, or even quadrouple 4 pool rush you. bgh lamers/players are NOT good players and i admit, i bet an avid bgh player like you could kick my ass on a bgh - like map because it is hard to adapt... i mean usually we rely on expanding and starving the other person out, but you cant do that on bgh because you can get unlimited resources from one base! the strategy on bgh... well actually the lack of strategy on bgh makes it a bad map... now, if you arent talking about bgh and are just talking about regular hunters i have no problem with that, i mean reg. hunters is fine although i do not like it much because it is imbalanced and has a lot of money on it... too much... thanks for your time =p |

oops, sorry if i gave the wrong impression. i play normal hunters all the time and bgh once in a while (like say, once every two weeks?). yes, i also agree it brings your level down if played once too often but somehow people go ahead and label anyone who admits in touching a TINY BIT of BGH a *cough* loser *cough*
seems to me people who write bgh battlereports always need a lot of explaining to make sure people dont get the wrong impression of them
so whats wrong with playing bgh once in a while?
and about the imbalance, i have no idea what youre talking about
thanks for your time =P |

| Allow me to write up a short review of the map: The Hunters. It's all on one level, no high ground, no islands, nothing. All 8 bases are one big choke point to the center, so it's very easy to get from any one base to any another. This makes it, in part, a rush map. Also, there're 10 mineral patches, more than you find on most maps. Each player has a gimme expansion, but some of your success is determined by luck in where each player starts. It's just a very boring map, devoid of the strategy you can find in many other maps. NoHunters players will generally pick a random Brood War map and play it, whether anyone knows it or not. This, IMO, is a better way to learn to "adapt" than anyone will get from playing a single map. Blizzards releasing maps of the week, why don't you play them? |

| I agree that hunters is a boring map, and I agree that ppl should play more of the other excellent maps. Not just Lost Temple and Dire Straits. Hunters is ok, BGH is not. |

seems to me people who write bgh battlereports always need a lot of explaining to make sure people dont get the wrong impression of them
That's because most of the people who read battlereports here are looking for some interesting strategies in action. Playing BGH is not strategy, its speed. Its speed to see who can turtle and tech the fastest. I played BGH once before I left school and let me tell you, it was the most inane game I have ever played. In a normal game, losing a carrier sucks and can decide the game. In a BGH game, everyone has 23825837562 carriers anyway and enough resources to build carriers for a solid week.
Twip is right about playing random maps. I used to be a one map wonder and I'm exponentially better now that I play maps I've never seen before. |

| National tournament of 6,000 players? Let's see, there's about 30,000-50,000 logged onto battle.net at any given time. I'd venture to say most "nohunters" players wouldn't have too much of a problem with you. If you'd like to prove different drop me an email, mark4@battlereports.com. We could play three or five games. Of course, I'll probably pick an island map once or twice =]. |

The reason people hate BGH and Hunters is because they're played all the time. Nohunters people would rather play other maps. A lot of people on BGH really do suck. But not everyone. And it's not like all non-BGH players are great. So to say that someone sucks because they're a BGH/Hunters player is kind of a lame stereotype.
Occasionally the infinite resources on BGH will piss me off in a game. But regular Hunters is fine. I play it to this day. |
| #8 MikeyMonty[2267] |
|
| Hunters and BGH wouldn't be so bad if people would actually join a game or create a game that was on a different map. Anytime I'm looking for a game against a random opponent I've got read down the list of BGH $$$$$ games before I find one on a decent BLizzard map. |

BGH definitely is making a player weaker. All my friends are playing BGH (because they just started to play SC) and guess what they told me when I asked them why? Because they said it is easy to play. No need for expand, only one entrance to base, unlimited resources at your base. So basically what they do always is this: cannon/bunker/sunken at choke, then go MASSIVE Carriers/Battlecrusiers/Guardians(Muta+Dev combo of course). Maybe two or three dozens of those.
What the point of playing then?? If you don't want to think, don't play SC!
When a BGH player is playing other Blizzard normal maps, they suck badly... worse than a newbie. A newbie knows they have to expand. BGH player just doesn't expand at all!! When playing normal maps, the first thing they ask is, "Damn, limited resources".... sigh....
For all BGH people, go play a map with a trigger like this one: "Set resources to current player to 100000 ore and gas"
You don't need gather your money anymore. |

| I don't see why you bash people who play BGH, if you don't like it then you don't play it, problem solved. People have a right to play whatever map they want, it's their game after all. |
| #13 Khorne_wargod[2276] |

| I think Hunters is a good map but BGH Hunters absolutely disgusts me! I think one of the hardest things in the game is deciding when to expand and when to block the person you are playing against from expanding and how to do it. JUst to le some people know i modified a Hunters Map so its High ground Hunters. All of the water has been replaced by high ground. And people don't have a rightt to play whatever they want. This deserved at least a 3 thought. He (i assume) dosen't deserve to be in the same class as "I did a 5 pool rush, he died". |

I will admit to playing BGH sometimes with some Kali friends, that's what they play, BGH requirs no skill and no strategy. Playing with my Kali friends we have never lost. You will never run out of resources at your main, in reality you dont have to expand.
BGH is a race to either get mass carriers, or mass tanks and goliaths (or BC's), or mass hydras, you rarely see someone tech up, its so lame! It's so easy to turtle until you have an army that could destroy anything it touchs. Hell, if you loss 8 carriers, you have 8 starports making 8 more. Even the US Army did not produce troops and forces like that in WWII.
I have never seen a single player use dark swarm on BGH. They just do not use all of their units abilities.
About the BR, how crappy a report, get some names or something, take a writing class too! I dont write great reports, but this one desires its 1 Bengalaas. |
| #15 Mark4[2279] |
|
| You know the interesting thing? BGH is an easy map for good players too. Some nohunters players complain about the wall in and mass carrier strat. The thing is, you do need to expand after you saturate your main with workers, then make sure you have enough unit producing structures to keep your resources scraping bottom. Yes, after you have two expansions and your cranking from 20 gates, it's silly, simple, and ridiculous. But you still enter mid game with twice the unit production of your opponents and they wonder why thier carrier rush fails to 75 upgraded dragoons and a few templar. Or why even wait till that point? 18-24 goons will easily roll over the ten or twelve cannons these newbies place in a solid line at thier choke. My point is, high skill at all maps will let you win even these ridiculous games, but high skill at BGH lets you win BGH. |

Agreed Mark... I remember the first time I played BGH on bnet. I played alot here at work on resource limited maps, etc and found that the main reason for winning/losing was expanding at the right time.
So here I'm playing on this mucho resource map with a tendancy to expand lots. The other guy couldn't get the resources in as fast as I and I was able to out produce him and destroy his turtle defence (maybe they don't see drops often enough?).
But the part I hated was the extra 20 minutes I had to play to eliminate the guy after I thrashed him. He'ld drop down a pylon here or there just so he could trash talk. Play a good game, say congrats when you're done and the writing is on the wall.

Mark, you're absolutely right about that. You don't need to expand, but that doesn't mean you CAN'T. I find it's hella more fun to make zealots and dragoons out of numerous gateways instead of turtling and teching. And you're right, lots of people die to it, because they think their cannons will stop everything. Or sometimes it's fun to make mutas and attack their undefended peon line. Hehe.
So the point is not 'everyone' turtles and techs. But most people do. And most people can be killed when they do. |

You know, Hunters isn't a bad map. BGH even has its good points. A few. Thing is, it is devoid of most strategies. No ledges, no islands, not even trees for cover. It is a small eight-player map, and I will admit to enjoying a few no-rush 3on3's. But I see it as not a bad map, but not a good map, so many others have funner stuff. Chokes, bridges, islands, and I love melee units in a forest. I'd also like to add that the comparison between GOW and Hunters is invalid.
The only comparison is how often they are played. As I've said, Hunters does not have access to all the strategies availiabe in Starcraft. GOW was an excellent map for War2. For one, it was large enough that rushing was not easy. Two, it had variations in landscape. There were alternate routes to places. You could tower in mines. Great fun! Even archers could be placed in strategic locations. I even perfected a gryphon rush =). And the spell opprotunites! Not so on hunters. So stop the silly comparison!
In defense of Hunters, and, more importantly, GOW.

| I have to agree with you Ralessi, on low resources being more fun, but I have to tell you that Gow was a perfectly good map, with not too many minerals and plenty of opprotunity for strategy. I did prefer Bridge to Bridge though. Also a bit large, but even more opprotunites for Rangers! |

Any argument regarding BGH's playability, skill required, amount of resources, tactics used, whatever, all that's bogus. The real problem with BGH is that it's killed variety.
Why won't anyone join my 5-man FFA on Island Hop? Because it's not Hunters and it's not melee. When was the last time you played a greed or a slaughter game?
That's right - never. All the potential for variety in this otherwise excellent game completely out the window. The nohunters crowd has their own bad habits (Temple, Dire).
There are hundreds of maps. Maybe 5 are played with any frequency, 2 of these compose 90% of all the games on b.net. Over 99% of all the games played are either melee or UMS, despite the fact that there's a dozen different game varieties.
People can't even argue that they don't play the other game types or other maps because they simply don't like them - because they've never played them.
30,000 people on fucking b.net and not a fucking one will join a FFA. |

Something about it grabs me.. mainly because everyone is on equal ground knowing where everything is and you don't get the "What is this map like" question. Oh well.. play on! |

Playing hunters, lost temple and dire, is better than lost temple and dire. The only reason most people don't play hunters, is because they'll get called a newbie.
