ehhumm... difficult to decide... typical drefsab drivel. Which is by no means an inferior piece. But the fallout is always comes out to some sort of overrated affair, with the sheep bouncing around gleefully, waiting for that famous regal author to give them the benefit of saying "thanks." Bah! Except this time its all whacked.
The criticized fanfic writers wallow without relent in simply being part of the action, not caring how brutally they're criticized, and by a BR.com superstar no less! Could they ever be so lucky?
Anyways, it was good, even if it was a tad formulaic and bantering to the BR.com crowd. (I was waiting for some inundationg of the word "gay", but I suppose my sardonic side was saited sufficiently.) |

Ok, I'm not a Dref hater. Nor do I think that he is "over-rated." In fact, he was probably the reason why I instantly fell in love with this site.
However, this doesn't change the fact that this piece of writing, whilst obviously well-written, was not deserving of the rating it received.
It's as if the readers see Dref's name on the list, instantly type "10 10 GG ^^" in the comments section, THEN read it. If you were to release something that was good enough to obtain this rating, I would have no problem whatsoever saying that you are good.
Until that happens again (you seem to be in a slump for ideas), I will continue to point out that name-value makes a big difference in the world.

I'd give it at least a 7 for creativity - except maybe a point off for the deus ex machina ending. And if anyone here knows what that phrase actually means, you've taken at least some literature in High School.
Uh, Strega, that's exactly what some people do - post a comment then actually read it. By now you should know better than to take those comments seriously.
I still think it deserved a low-gold rating. It was well-written, and creative in a different sort of way. And it made fun of ppl w/o coming off as telling them to "get a life". I'd guess I'm one of those ppl he was digging on, but I don't take my writing or my life (or lack of) seriously enough to feel like I should be offended. If I took it seriously I'd be trying to hawk it to Pocket Books :).

Pretty funny stuff.
Some pretty clever stuff, dref. It wasn't a brilliant parody, but it made some good distinctions. You definitely hit the bullseye in your analysis of what makes fan-fiction stories so bad. I was kind of hoping that reading this would make people realize that fan-fiction stories aren't really "stupid." It's just that they're (mostly, there are definitely notable exceptions) very, very poorly written. A good fan-fic story can be an interesting 5-minute read. Unfortunately, it's might be a 5-week search to find one.
Your observations about fan-fics were accurate, and you let out a clever parody. I laughed, it was funny. Good work.
