It is concise, he's not huge on descriptions, the action moves smoothly. He rarely (maybe never) possesses long strings of dependant clauses. He never binges on the figurative language. This is, nearly, the definition of conciseness.
While maybe some people are overrating this in the comments section, no one gave it a 10. It is some of the most refreshing material on here for awhile.
Also, I did not say he reads more, rather he's more well read. He is after all significantly older than you. My point was his writing reflects this, more so than say, yours. You can't just go from writing off reports clearing attempting to banter to the lowest common denominator at BR.com, and then attempt to criticize literary merit of something. Your opinions won't have much creedence.

Dino, that depends solely on how fast the individual can observe and pick up nuances in things like writing.. I can read any fanfic here and point to the parts that would never be published in a book, or think of what was going through the author's head in writing it.

There are plenty of people who could be on the Hall of Fame DivvyO. The reason why they ARE NOT is because 10 is a rather perfect number, isn't it? It is highly doubful anyone on the current staff would take the time or the effort to remove anyone from the Hall of Fame so that is that. We're stuck with Bob. It's sad that someone like Bob could become a member of the hall of fame, and a rater. Bob, if everything you said above was said seriously, then you are a prick. And the fact that br.com has honored a prick like you makes the entire site look bad in my eyes. Throwing "nigger" in at the end of every one of your posts is pretty puhthetic. For some reason I had associated the words "funny" and "cool" with your name, but now I'm just going to think of you as another of the millions of angry little bastards on the internet. Oh yea, bob, Dref's writing is good. I think he has the writing style, imagination, and skill to write a book if he put his mind to it. But that's his decision. For now I think he's just having fun with whatever job he does now.

IMHO, this fanfic is not that good.
1) I have no idea what is happening throughout the story. I still don't know who is saying all those sentences in italic. I'm assuming it's the medic, but Drefsab never confirms that. Overall, a weird story that is way too confusing.
2) Unless Drefsab is directly criticizing the unrealistic aspects of Starcraft, this story is too fake. If you picture an actual Starcraft battle, it'll become apparent that Medics can't heal instantly like in the game and a single photon burst would probably blow a Marine up. Drefsab doesn't acknowledge this, so the story reads like a video game and not like an actual real-life event (which is not the point of a fanfic).

Judging solely from this story, I doubt Drefsab is good enough at writing to publish an adult novel or short story yet. As Bob says, those of you who think this is novel-quality should read more well-crafted literature. Of course, there are plenty of bad writers out there who are published, and Drefsab is definitely not a BAD writer. However, for this to get 3 9's is just whack; a 7 or 8 is more fitting.
Because I'm sure many people will flame me in response, let me just state that I'm assuming that most BR.com regulars think this is a great fanfic just because it's one of the better ones posted on this website. However, other websites I've seen have many more impressive fanfics. For those who are impressed by this story, I recommend reading some of Ixxra's short stories, which are availabe at templararchives.net or fanfiction.net. They're godly!

Since people seem to be giving you advice on what to read, I might as well add something, try Aldous Huxley. Not his later "crap"(still good but too damn religious). Try Island, the ending is similar in type of depth(if that phrase makes any sense)
And about Bob, now unless he is actually an inbred, redneck, Jerry Falwell wannabe, I'm pretty sure he's sitting back somehere, reading these posts and making his own, laughing his ass off. I can understand that, because nothing is more fun than taking advantage of other peoples' stupidity.
Oh and about that novel crap, Dref has potential but you have to realize that only geniouses can make amazing art before the age of 30. And all people who are published have experienced editors. It takes a long time for a novel to be created.
