wtf, asteroid impacts can catastrophically affect the entire world - indeed, one is likely the cause of the moon's formation - but I don't think that's on the same level.
And whether volcanoes rape category 5+ hurricanes is debatable. It depends, you might say. |

Holy crap, this was a fucking masterpiece (notice how effective it is when I sware as I don't do it much).
I would say this is on par with the strongest level of writing I've seen on this site, with the added bonus of being damn funny.
"including one man who thought that it would be a wonderful idea to ride out the storm in his boat. In the middle of the ocean."
The way he presented a sentence like that by pausing and adding that "middle of the ocean" line was an example of the numerous effective writing techniques that you used throughout.
You made potentially boring spots, like the scrabble game, highly entertaining with your humor and strong writing.
Base score: 9 (because of quality of writing, humor, and unique subjective matter)
+1 for being a HARDCORE battle reporter and taking notes in the middle of a hurricane. My hat is off to your reporting dedication!
Which leads to a final score of a very solid 10. |

Excellent work. It was incredibly entertaining, and the humor was just spot on. Great job once again, Mattz.

| Wow, awesome. This was completely different from your previous report, probably because you were more prepared. I have to agree with JV, when you are in a hurricane, and you are like "man I better take notes for a BR" - that's just intense man :) |

This is the kind of report that, a year or so from now, will land you in HoF. Well, this report and the one you're preparing on that meteor impact that opens up a huge volcanic fumarole somewhere near Tallahassee.
It might be too late for this, but if you think of it for Ivan, this might be an excellent submission for 'eyewitness' types of reports and such for the BBC. Check their website, send them a copy (deleting the want mention and cleaning out BR.com-specific content), and see if they'd be interested in an Ivan article should you be lucky enough to enjoy that event.
And by the way - great post JV. |

Quite possibly ;p.
I'm currently sitting in a "tech lab" with 30 people crowded around me, almost all of them working-on schoolwork no less-and I'm sitting here laughing my ass off. Need I say more?
And Scrabble is a bs time-waster, we play cards and cards > scrabble. Strip poker at a hurricane party is ownage :).
One thing about Brooke and her mother, you better make sure that they know that disease-carrying mosquitos are "nawt knats"...idiots. |

| Gee dag, you know, I happen to be going into meteorology, and I say all those cyclones really are is shit slinging around some low pressure areas due to corriolis force untill it blows up my fucking house. Why? Because most of the time im dealing with hurricanes im thinking about 'where is that moisture going to go? how will it affect the jetstream troughs and ridges? Will I ever have sex again?' |
| #43 Decay[153456] |
| dyn57-005.res-hall.ndsu.NoDak.edu |
wtf I thought I commented on this. :(
Now I really don't know what to say, so I'll just say nice job on the report and on surviving and all that, but playing scrabble with dumb people is no thx. Next time I survive a natural disaster, I'll have to remember to take notes. :)
And Lozer, you live in Wisconsin, so we all know that a hurricane is not going to prevent you from having sex. That's just your own problem with women. :P
And I just realized I end all my paragraphs with a face. :O |

"There's a certain feeling of fear that one gets before a hurricane. It's not really death - very few people die in hurricanes any more, and if they do, it's related to something that happens after the storm; perhaps a fallen power line, which killed a man who stuck his hand in a puddle of water just a day following Charley"
I dunno if this is true anymore following Katrina :( |
