Battle Report :
I saw this [U.S.U.X.] in the room and he was asking everyone for a one on one. Always in the mood for a one on one I replied to him, that I was willing to battle him. He created the game and there it was... The Lost Temple.... AGAIN !!! Well, I liked this map, it is a good map, but once you've played it more than a hundred times it sucks.
After he initiated the countdown he changed his race just before the countdown hit 2 from random to Protoss. Once the game started I knew what my race was : The Zerg. I found myself at the 3 o'clock position and after putting my drones to work I ordered my Overlord to scout immediatly. Exploring the 12 o'clock platform first, I was succesfull immediatly. There he was, already building a forge before a gateway ( really not needed, since I never do a zergling rush, it isnt a strat it is something anything can do and therefore it doesnt give me a good feeling if it succeeds ). I went double hatch immediatly. When he spotted my Overlord he said : Hi. Now knowing my race he started to build a gateway and a pylon and some photon cannon. I pulled back my Overlord to ensure it would live.
I ordered a drone to morph into a spawning pool, planning to go heavy zerglings with my double hatch. When his first zealot was ready he send it on a scout mission. I already had 6 zerglings waiting for the bastard on my ramp, so he couldnt enter my base, knowing what I was doing. When he saw the zergling waiting for him, he first engaged and then pulled back, but my zerglings being the faster ones ( both without speed upgrades ) killed him just before he got back at his base. With my zerglings I saw he didnt build a pylon near his ramp, so I decided to build 12 zerglings in order to raze his base ( hopefully ). In the mean time I build the Extractor, evolution chamber and a sunken as defense. Having my 18 zerglings waiting outside his base I ordered them to attack !
They encountered heavy resistance, 3 zealots and 2 photon cannons which where protected by other buildings. He tried to build a third photon cannon, but I could raze that one before completion ( he didnt cancel it... :) ) My offense only killed the zealots and two photon cannons, then I saw that sacrifacing more zerglings was useless and ordered the remaining 6 to retreat. I had him contained, since I build 6 more zerglings, and 3 drones during the attack. I build a Hydralisk den, a sunken a a third hatch. The third hatch was placed at the nearest expansion node. A short while later I had 6 Hydra's. building 6 more zerlings for scouting missions I had vision of all the important expansions except the two islands. He tried to get 4 zealots dropped as guard at his expansion node, but when they faced my 12 zerglings and 6 hydras ( Hydra's with speed upgrade ) they were put back in the shuttle. Stupid ! I killed the slow shuttle and now he lost his shuttle AND his zealots without causing me any harm.
After that, I build 6 Hydra's again and researched the Hydra range upgrade. Waiting with this army outside his base, I took an Overlord and scouted his ramp. Still no photon cannons.. invade ! I brought the Overlord with me during the attack to see possible Dark Templar or Observers. At my base I build some sunkens, some spore colonies and upgraded the caraphace of the Zerg infantry. My Overlord saw that besides 4 photon cannons there was no real defense at his base present, just 3 zealots and a dragoon, so I yelled : CHARGE !!!!
Being surprised how easily I could take out his base ( I lost all the zerglings and 3 Hydra's in a, unfortunatly not so bloody battle ) I soon found out that he had expanded, since I crushed all his buildings at his main and still didnt got the win. I had zerglings burrowed all over the map so he had to be on the Island North West ! I started to build an Spire immediatly, thinking he could have little defense, so muta's would be sufficient. I told one Overlord to spot this base and ordered another one to move to the other Island.
Now it became clear to me why he had so little defenses, he had expanded twice and on both Islands there were plenty of probes ! Having plenty of minerals and gas I took the 12 o'clock expansion, now having four hatches. I upgraded my Lair to a Hive and after the Spire was completed I build nine muta's and send them to the Island South East, since that was the one with having only two photon cannons.
The Expansion was taken down without to much trouble, but there was something that worried me. At this expansion he had build a Fleet Beacon ! He was up to something... I knew it. Maybe DWEB ? Or just Carriers ? Soon I would know... Building 12 scourge and some muta's ( now I had twelve mutas too ) I also decided to make a Greater Spire, not knowing what I would be facing next, I also made Defiler Mound and constructed more Hydra's.
When my Greater Spire was completed I morphed six Muta's into Guardians and the other six into Devourers. Making even more muta's in the mean time. In the mean time he had heavily fortified his expansion ( now his main base of operations ). No less than 8 photon cannons where put near the edge of his Island. Cannons being no match for my Guardians, I told them to attack. Then my worst dreams came true...
Having spend all his money on Carriers, he had 6 Carriers inside his base ! I told my scourge and Devourers to attack them, but only 4 of them died, while all my Giardians, Devourers and Scourges died. I had build 8 muta's in the meantime and ordered them immediatly to morph into Devourers and build 24 scourges from my 4 hatches. With nearly all my gas used for this, The next attacked had to be really good, or I would get it more difficult than I was hoping for.
I didnt have to attack at all, he came with 4 Carriers and tried to destroy my main base, however, I saw them coming and my Devourer / Scourge combo brought all Carriers down. He said : Fuck ! You win. Good game. Then he left leaving me as the victor !
Lessons I learned :
- He had plenty of money, that's obvious, he should have used it more for unit production, beacause when I took his main base, I had actually already won.
- Dont expand like mad ! You will pay dearly for doing so !
- I was lucky, If he got reavers, my attack would have been useless !
- Playing with Zerg isnt as much fun as with Terran.. :( |
