"...and all those turrets they've been building start to pay off now as the observers pop like a pair of horny frogs during the Fourth of July." - Eggfoo-young

I met these guys in NoHunters and I asked them if they would let me observe a game and write a battle report on it. They agreed. I had never observed before so this was kind of exciting for me.
We settled on Lost Temple as the battle ground because, hey, whos not familiar with Temple?
A few minutes of me ooh-ing and ahh-ing over being in the observer slot and the fight was on, baby.
The count down commenced and suddenly I found my self face to face with the entire screen, like Zeus looking down upon the Trojan War.
Lunar had chosen Zerg and had spawned in the 12:00 position while Tiam had chosen the Terran and had spawned at 3:00.
I watched carefully as both commanders sent their workers to the rock to see how fast they could do it and to my pleasure both were flawless in the execution, not missing a beat. I think they had cloned.
Lunar sent his OL over towards the 3:00, the closest starting position, and quickly located his adversary who was busy building a barracks and a depot at his choke heavy metal style.
Anticipating quick lurkers I'd supposed.
But Lunar was not going quick lurker, he was double hatching to his expansion.
Lunars OL had found the buildings at the choke as the first marine was being made. He began retreating it to the edge, the first marine popped out, fired a few shots and then just stood there as the OL escaped unharmed. If he had have given chase Im sure the OL wouldve been taken down.
But Tiams attention was elsewhere. He had an SCV enroute to the 12:00. He located his foe and began to build a bunker right next to Lunars working drones.
Way too close.
Two drones began attacking the nuisance that was Tiam and soon he had to abandon his half-finished structure and run his SCV. One marine had been on his way to the Zerg main.
The drones destroyed the bunker before the marine could get there but that didnt stop Tiams fun. The marine engaged the drones alone as a single sunken was being formed in defense of the hatchery and drones.
One drone went down and another marine joined the first when Lunar decided to take vengeance with his mob of drones. They attacked the dynamic duo with teeth gnashing and claws snapping.
But Tiam had been paying attention to this small skirmish and he withdrew his marines until the drones gave up the chase and returned to work. And then he attacked again.
What spirit.
But soon the sunken had finished morphing and the party was over. The marines bugged out and went home. Whether or not Tiam saw the second hatch at Lunars expansion I dont know. But he didnt attack it. If he had Lunar would have been in trouble again.
Lunarskyz goes back to his business of building a den, a step towards his dream of massing hydras and Tiamatic builds an academy. A foreshadow of the dual to come.
Tiam runs an SCV down to the 6:00 and begins construction of a barracks at the choke. At almost the same time two zerglings come sprinting out of Lunars base and one heads towards Tiams main while the other heads straight for six o'clock. Poor lone SCV.
The zergling that was going towards Tiams main met an untimely death to C-14 Impaler Gauss Rifle fire. The zergling that had ran for the 6:00 had discovered the barracks and had attacked the SCV, killing it and then going to work on the barracks.
But Tiamatic was in motion. He had a squad of M&Ms on the way to the 6:00 to salvage what he could. I thought it was interesting that he had hit his stimpack to increase his running speed and therefore had made it there before the barracks had gotten in the red.
Tiam sent an SCV to finish the barracks at 6:00, began construction of a third barracks at home and had built two engineering bays one after the other. I guess he wanted to build extra turrets. (hehe).
But Lunars had not been sitting on his hands. A third hatchery was going down at the choke of his main and hydralisks were begining to gather around. And once Lunar had felt he had a sufficient amount, he attacked, like a good Zerg should.
He sent his forces towards the Terran main, perhaps hoping that the brunt of Tiams forces were at 6:00. He was almost right. Tiam was enroute as well to somewhere other than his main when the hydras showed up, spitting in the faces of the marines. The marines couldnt see because of the acid that the hydras had sprayed onto their visors so they ran back home to get some squeegees.
But Lunar wasnt done dancing, he stayed on Tiams heals all the way to the choke but was cut short when his medium sized hydras couldnt get through the tiny lanes Tiams choke buildings had left. The marines stayed behind the depots and barracks, smoking cigarettes, waiting for reinforcements from 6:00 to arrive. The hydras began attacking the structures, trying to cut a wedge through in order to get into Tiams base.
But Tiamatic had been wise in his early building-placement decisions. The barricade held until the reinforcements arrived and suddenly Lunars forces were trapped in a vice and decimated.
Somewhere in there Lunar had began construction of his lair.
Tiamatic decides the time is right. His combined forces move out towards Zerg territory while expanding at both 6:00 and his natural almost simultaneously. A factory his pumping within Tiams base now and a proud tank soon joins the infantry that has stationed itself outside of Lunarskyz natural expansion.
Lurkers come onto the scene at Lunars base but they are too late. Tiams starport is working hard and I have a good idea of whats about to emerge.
Lunar begins to lurker push and Tiam gives a little ground but not much, until the science vessel floats out over the scene and the tanks begin to shell the lurkers from afar.
Then Lunar goes for broke, sending his forces crashing against the Terran wall but the match has been over for awhile now from where I stand. Tiamatic pushes all the way up into the Zerg main, leveling slimy buildings and defensive matrixing marines.
Lunarskyz::AE:: knows this match goes to Tiamatic and concedes the game with honor and a smile.
Lessons learned:
1. Lurkers are the reason Terran fear the Zerg. When the Terran is upgrading his infantry as fast as Tiam was and has science vessels rolling around things can get hairy for the Zerg. Lurkers or guardians are the equilizers, use them or suffer.
2. When offensive bunkering, dont build the first bunker right next to the Zergs minerals.
3. When observing take alot of screenshots!
GG to both of these gentlemen and I hope to see them again.
