=========================================================
Commander Derrick surveyed the landscape before him. They had landed in a deserted planet which was supposed to contain ancient artifacts. Like he cared. The expeditionary team that was sent here a couple of months ago didn't respond and they found the ruins of the base in the northern hemisphere of the planet. This is where they have landed, amongst the scattered remains of rotting Terran technology.
Nobody knows what happened. The last report stated that the group had come into contact with hostile aliens. This place is dangerous. He had a team of engineers with him. Veterans from numerous wars, they were an experienced bunch, the most essential part of his force.
Construction of a barracks and a depot was his first priority. After they were finished, he ordered a refinery to be built on top of the looming vespene geyser that sat beside the CC. They were on high ground, this was good.
Just then, a small creature hovered up the ramp and into his base. It had huge pincer-like claws and it looked like a giant beetle. It went near one of his engineers and started spitting something at it.
"Damnit sir. What the hell is this thing?!"
"Use your fusion cutters! You two help him!" he cried into the radio.
It was soon killed, its body exploding, its corrosive blood making the ground bubble and hiss. So these are the things that attacked the expeditionary group. They will pay.
While an academy was being built, a marine reported to him.
"Sir, base defense status is minimal. There's only 3 of us here! Maybe we can build a bunker?"
"No need marine. We'll have medics soon.."
It was getting dark when I heard strange noises. Growling and scratching noises which woke me up. What the hell? Dog-like creatures were coming up the ramp to the surprise of the marines stationed there. The creatures had sharp claws and a tail that balanced their ungainly lope.
Shit!
The marines on guard duty fired their rifles at the incoming horde. He counted six of them. There were only four marines on guard detail. Two of the four died, their bodies ripped into bloody ribbons by the creatures. These things were fierce!
Using a comsat to scan a major plateau to my right, I was shocked to find a huge infested area. Strange organic looking buildings littered a carpet of living organisms. I saw more of those dog-like creatures and a couple of bigger ones. Ones with spikes on their forearms.
It was time to put an end to this. While I was ordering the SCV to build a factory, I sent a detachment of marines and medics to the area.
A heavy firefight took place. Several acid spitters, the ones that were heavily armored and crawled on their bellies, attacked the marines accompanied by a couple of those ferocious little dog-beasts.
I saw in dismay as the strike force get chopped to pieces by underground spikes which came from nowhere and a subterreanean tongue which tore the marines in half.
Capt. Rosales screamed into the Tac-com:
"First wave ineffectual! Their entrance is too heavily defended. We are retreating!"
I saw five medics enter the base, bloody as hell.
Lieutenant Lieht, my tactical adviser, pointed out in the recent comsat maps that the north side of the base was not defended at all by anything. He recommended a surprise dropship assault. After pondering this idea for a while, I concur and asked orbital command to send in a couple of dropships.
After the three dropships from orbital command arrived, I ordered the marines loaded into one, the medics into one and more marines into the last one. It was doomsday for this alien species.
Before sending them off however, a large group of the spitters arrived. Heavily armored and spitting a far-more deadlier acid than the first creature we encountered, they climbed up the ramp.
I screamed into the Tac-net.
"We got it, we got it"
Arclite shock cannons from two tanks inside the base shook the ground as they pounded the alien invaders with plasma. Marines joined the battle, stimming themselves up, taking positions in front of the tanks.
The attack was repelled. One supply depot was burning but that was OK. It was payback time.
The troops landed in the northern part of the plateau, stimming and then firing at anything in their sight, laying waste to a Den filled with those spitters, a tall tower supported by tentacle like filaments, a gas extraction organism and a pool filled with a strange green fluid from which emerged small beasts.
The battle was won. I could smell it. Sending reinforcements via another dropship cleared his base of troops. The underground spiker was also destroyed by the timely use of the Com-sat which revealed its position.
The tanks arrived just in time to reinforce the troops as the ferocious aliens went to a suicidal attack, the small resource-gathering spitters rushing headlong into the squad of marines...
A hail of bullets tore at the creatures and not one of them made it into their spitting range. It was over. The aliens were all dead.
---
We lifted off several hours later, leaving behind a small force to guard the planet against further infestations from the aliens...

Lessons learned:
1) Never underestimate the power of M&Ms
Well that's it. Tell me what you think. It's my first attempt to write it in this form. I'm only gonna use it for short games since it takes too long =) |
