War of the Smurfs

Map: Dark Temple (What a surprise, its the smurf's favorite map too)

Starring:
Team 1:
Mark4 - Papa Smurf (because everyone wants to smurf him)
Mark3:14 - YRM Smurf (he is not only smurfing his hero, but also a biblical text, how clever)

Team 2:
AQD4 - Smurfy Smurf (This would be Twip Smurfing Mark4's smurf)
Titan-Crusher - Newbie Smurf (After reviewing the game, this is all I could think of)

Introduction:
The smurfs enter the battlefield at their respective positions. Mark4 enters at 9:00 with his usual Protoss, while his teammate Mark3:14 lands at 3:00 with Protoss as well. AQD4 lands at 12:00 with Terran while his teammate Titan-Crusher comes in at 6:00 with Protoss.

Mark4 reveals his build order to Mark3:14 while AQD4 explains to Titan-Crusher what they are up against.

Let the fun begin:
AQD4 starts what appears to be a wall in build while the three protoss players all go with a 2 gate build. Mark4 and Mark3:14 do some quick scouting and realize that Titan-Crusher is going to be wide open for a quick zealot rush. They both send their first 3 zealots to his base. Titan-Crusher has 3 zealots at the top of his choke. Now 6 zealots vs. 3 zealots may sound like a walk over, however Titan held the high ground. Mark4 went up the ramp first. He is able to engage the 3 zealots at the top with two of his own. Titan's 3 zealots engage Mark4's 2 zealots leaving room for Mark3:14 to squeeze his 3 zealots through and behind Titan's zealots. Titan's zealots quickly succumb to the superior numbers and to make matters worse, 2 more zealots arrive from the Marks brothers bases.

Titan's playing time has pretty much ended at this point. To summarize quickly, Mark4 and Mark3:14 pretty much plow over his main leaving nothing but a huge pile of rubble. He is able to evacuate a few probes and he starts a nexus in, of all places, AQD4's natural.

Now AQD4 has not done what we thought he would do. He has not walled in his base. Instead, he has constructed 3 barracks at his choke and while Titan is getting his clock cleaned, AQD4 sends 6 marines and 1 SCV to Mark3:14's base. They are able to destroy the 1 defending zealot and charge up the ramp. In Mark3:14's base, 2 cannons are desparately trying to warp in, but the marines fire on them and the cannons are destroyed before they can do any damage. In desparation, Mark3:14 sends out his probes to attack the marines and with some lovely micro, the valiant probes prevail!

Let the Trashtalking begin:
Titan is not pleased about being spanked so badly and lets everyone know how he feels about the tactics used thus far.

Mark4 retorts""

When Titan makes the claim that had the map been islands and had he been Zerg, he would've won, Mark4 starts to get irritated.

After this exchange, Titan obviously begins to feel like he isn't getting enough respect because he fills everyone in on his highest ladder ranking.

He is met with the incredelity that he deserves.

What, there's still a game going on here??:
That's right, you thought AQD4 (Twip) was just going to roll over and die? I don't think so.

After his original assault on Mark3:14 with the 6 marines, AQD4 creates another force that consists of 5 marines and 1 firebat. He runs this force right in behind Mark3:14's mineral line. To AQD4's chagrin, his force is once again defeated by Mark3:14's probes and 1 zealot. However, Mark3:14 only has 7 probes left, so AQD4's attacks have been cost effective.

Mark4 finally sends over a small contingent of forces to help his flailing ally. He places 7 zealots and 1 dragoon at the top of Mark3:14's ramp. The next group of forces from AQD4's base consisting of 6 marines, 2 firebats, and 2 medics meet up with Mark4's troops on the ramp. AQD4 was probably not expecting to meet any serious resistance because his troops head straight up the ramp 2 by 2... and the zealots slaughter them 2 by 2. The dragoon falls in a puddle of blue goo, but all of Mark4's zealots survive.

It's at this point that Mark4 feels like he owes someone an apology.

To which Titan replies:

Mark4 has been amassing a tremendous amount of troops which include zealots, dragoons, and high templars. He has AQD4 trapped in his main and Titan has cannoned himself into AQD4's natural expansion. Mark3:14 is helping Mark4 with containment duty.

Since this game is set on use map settings, you'd think that AQD4 would just give up. But he doesn't. Instead, he loads up 2 dropships with 6 marines, 3 firebats, 3 medics, and 1 siege tank. He flies his load over to Mark3:14's battered base for yet another assault. But he can't do much damage right?.. WRONG!!

AQD4 manages to destroy a lot of probes as well as the Nexus before reinforcements finally arrive to take care of the stubborn Terrans. As you can see, there are still a lot of minerals there to mine.

Unfortunately for AQD4, he is facing 2 opponents, not just one. Mark4 decides that now would be a good time to run over his opponents and moves his troops in for the kill. Mark3:14 sends in high templar support and the assault begins. AQD4 makes a brave stand but a couple of key storms turn out to be his undoing. His base becomes demolition practice for Mark4's dragoons and AQD4 loads up dropships and floats off a couple of key buildings to make a last stand on the top left island.

Then Mark4 makes a command decision regarding what to do about Titan:

And that's what they do:

Finally, it was time to take out AQD4's last holdout, the island base in the top left corner. For this purpose, halluciation is researched by both Mark4 and Mark3:14. AQD4 saw what appeared to be about 25 shuttles fly over his base and start dropping off troops and that's where I got this final cool screenshot.

Post Game Discussion:

...And with the parting comments, the Battle of the Smurfs has come to an end.

Final Thoughts:
Like it was said in the chat room after the game, Twip played a pretty good game considering the fact that not only did his partner get killed off early, but he set up camp in Twip's natural. Twip might have done better if he'd killed off his ally and gone it alone.

Even though it was a pretty one-sided game, it was still fun to watch Mark4 get all riled up. The trashtalking was a lot of fun to watch.

Thanks to the players for allowing me to observe.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Regards,
Drefsab
