Part 5: Broken Promises

Prologue

The war with Dark trinity is over. The clan has gained a lot of new members and some restructuring was done. The clan was split into three squads. I have been assigned to Red dog's squadron. Competent player, he is in the process of preparing a inclan tournament which of course I will be reporting on.

Meanwhile, I have been practicing my terran. Those of you who have met me in nohunters know that I am no heartcutter and I have been losing and losing hard. However, every loss brought its lesson and by the time I joined this public game I was very well versed in what I can or can't do.

Game info:

Map: Opposing city states

Teams:

Good guy: ~Nb~Grimjack (Myself) randomed as protoss at 9:00

Bad guys: Marine1something chose yellow terran at 12:00 and Ghettochild326 chose white protoss at 4:00

The game was orginally meant as a 2v2. when no one else showed up I said:
"2 v 1?"

"who's the 1?" came the reply from Marine1something.

"I am." I offered.

"Fine, no rush ok?"

"You're asking ME not to rush you guys?"

And with this we were off to the battle.

I don't know what possessed me to call out a 2v1. God knows I have no game, but maybe I figured that a hopeless battle was a good way to polish up micro skills. In a previous 2v2 game, my partner (who had been taken out early and made a hatch in my base to watch) asked me what I planned to do.

"I will give them hell before I die" I said then. And that was what I intended to do in this game as well.

Assessments

My command center appears at the 6:00 position. I start pumping out SCVs and my first tactical decision has to be made. Where to build my first depot?

There is no ramp to my base and there are two possible entrances. However, by the mini-map I get a feeling that the west entrance leads to nowhere and That I should first worry about the east. I therefore built my first depot east of my CC with the intent to form a semi-circle of depot-rax-depot-rax.

Broken promise

I send the scv that built that depot to scout the enemy as another one builds my first rax. I see that Ghettochild326 is right next to me at 4:00, worse yet, he is building pylons really close to my area. This was gonna be dirty, real dirty. I order up another rax and depot to complete the semi-circle and my scv thoroughly scouts Ghettochild326 's base. He is building a lot ofgates. Sun Tzu said No country has ever benefited from a protracted war and knew that if I let him build up with these gates, it would be a painful, protracted loss for me.

So I broke my promise and rushed him.

I pulled 4 scvs from the mineral line and marched them with my first 4 marines into Ghettochild326's base. I saw he had 4 gates now, but no zeal in sight. I think he was one of those guys that build 9 gates before they even start producing. There's no way I could let him live to use these gates on me. My attack force took out most of his probes and then killed his nexus.

I ordered them back behind the wall-in because Ghettochild326 had called for help and I figured Marine1something. would be along soon. 3 zealots attacked the task force as it made its way back. By using the scvs as shield I managed to kill 2 of them while losing 2 marines and making it back behind the wall where 4 more marines where waiting to lend support.

The remaining zealot was joined by another of his brethren and 8-10 of Marine1something.'s marines. Lucky for me, Marine1something.'s troops were in the lame line formation and I managed to survive this attack albeit with no marines left and one barracks lost..

I had progressed in my build to getting a refinery and I now ordered up 2 factories and a bunker where the rax had been as I was afraid of a even larger marine rush. I filled the bunker with marines out of my remaining rax and sure enough Marine1something. came back with more rines which just died as they got in range of the bunker. The last ones stopped a bit and fired at my rax from out of range, so I lifted my rax and placed it closer to the bunker. His attention may have been on his base because the marines followed the rax all the way into range of the bunker and died.

The factories came online and I immediately got 2 vultures, mines and siege. The vults went out to find Marine1something'sbase. One of my vultures found his base while the other found a marine force in transit. The first one mined his mineral line then attacked the peons while the second one inflicted several casualties to his attacking forces using mine bait and trap techniques. That last action bought me the time I needed.

Endgame

My first tanks came online and Ghettochild326 , who had been pleading for me to take him out of his misery by killing his gates, got his wish. I ordered up more tanks and also began work on a starport. I had the intention of dropping on him with a tank and some rines since his factory didn't even have the add-on yet. I also began an expansion where ghetto was when Marine1something disconnected.

Lessons.

1) The marine cheese rush really works well especially at such close quarters.
2) Vultures are good harrassing and time-buying units.
3) Terrans is da shit! Hehe.
4) Ghetto should have had his gates close up within his base and troops out before.
5) Better marine control would have helped Marine1 inflict much more damage to my base

Cheers,
Mr.Furious
