This battle took place at my school during the weekly Game Club Meeting. I took a break from the two 8 player Starcraft games going and decided to pull out the dusty old box that contained Risk. The other members looked at me with awe and vague suspicion. Was I really planning on playing a board game? With no sound effects or special graphics? I held the box high and announced that a Risk game had been started. 5 other eager students joined me at the round table at the middle of the room. We shooed away the Pokemon players with threats to rip up their cards. The game was set up and we all drew colors.
Black-lemon - Yellow
Scott’s Fantasy - Blue
Crushing Warren - Green
Mr. Bob - Red
Goat Boy - Black
Aussie Boss - Gray
*That is the order we went in for future reference
There are 42 territories on a risk board so we each got 7 cards and placed the initial 7 of our 20 armies, which we drew at the beginning. I chose to strengthen my hold on N. America and Yakutsk, which is near the eastern edge of Asia. My over all plan was to take the two Far Eastern countries of Asia and take all of N. America and S. America. North and South America are the best two countries to have together because you draw 11 armies a round and have only 3 points of entry to defend. After we all placed the rest of out armies, I analyzed the situation. Aussie Boss had a major build up in Kamchatka, the only country separating my forces in Japan and Yakutsk and my forces in the eastern part of the United States. I drew my first 3 armies and placed them in my N. American Provinces. I had only one territory that wasn’t remotely close to all the others and that was Southern Europe. I had learned a long time ago that Europe was not a place you wanted to have unless your enemy was pinned up in Australia. I could tell by the troop placements, however, that the great European Contention would occur this game as it did in so many others. Hopefully my experience and my perfect record would pay off. I bragged about my no loss record to the other players. I had lost several games of Castle Risk, but had never failed to take the world in World Domination Risk. Maybe they’d stay away from me for a while.
Battle1:
I forewent attacking on my first turn. I didn’t want to risk early game bad dice rolling. Scott’s Fantasy was a newbie to Risk, though, and decided to kill all the blacks in Africa from his Middle Eastern stronghold. He succeeded in taking all of Africa in his first turn. Quite a feat, but not worth it when Crushing Warren picked off two of Scott’s Middle East countries due to the fact that he had one troop on each territory. Scott was done for and the vultures of Misfortune knew it. Mr. Bob did as I did and built his troops up in Europe and Western Asia. Goat Boy wanted Germany badly to fulfill his dreams of being the 4th Reich so he plunged his forces into Europe. He was stretched thin now, along with Scott’s Fantasy, but he had Germany. Hopefully the Allies could defeat him without my help. America was minding it’s own business in this World War. Aussie Boss was going to be a “take-out-as-much-as-possible-and-then-hide-in-Australia” person. His attack country was none other than my main early game objective, Kamchatka. He was going to try and bust a cap in my head, but I had the quickness, and made a plan. He held off his attack this round. So I was in luck. My plan would work.
Battle2:
I added my 3 armies to Japan, and asked the little men fight bravely and strongly, for I was going to plunge them like a dagger, into the heart of Asia and, hopefully pull them back out. My plan was this: Threaten Aussie Boss’s precious homeland and hopefully he would build up his forces there and forget about his Kami Kaze attack. I could have busted through Indonesia and taken Australia, but I would have been stretched thin and Aussie Boss would have no doubt reaped dark vengeance upon me. I made the push, weakened him, and pulled back to Japan. Thanking the little gooks all the way home. I had lost only a few armies. I hoped my luck would last. Scott’s Fantasy drew 6 armies this round but instead of holing up and trying to stay in the game, he placed them evenly throughout his territories. He ended his round with fear in his eyes. His fear proved to be well founded as Crushing Warren deprived Scott of yet another 2 countries. Warren was proving to be the most sensible and future minded of the other players. I would have to keep an eye on him. Mr. Bob built up his troops again this round. Maybe he was doing a death push like Aussie, but I suspected that he was just too chicken to do anything other than build up. Goat Boy saw that Bob was building up, and after a quick review with his commanders in Germany, named Mr.Bob as the Jewish Nation. He must irradicate them. After some complaints about his racial slurs from the other players, he began his game-long pounding of Mr. Bob. He ended with not much done except weaken a few of Bob’s countries, but I knew that if left alone, they would eliminate themselves. Aussie Boss did as I hoped and placed his troops in Australia. He asked if he could take his Asian countries down to Australia, but because he didn’t have a straight path there, the others wouldn’t let him.
Battle3:
I drew 4 armies this round and decided it was time to clear some land in America. I built up in Alaska and attacked the North West Territory. It was Warren’s but I taught those damn Canadians a lesson about warfare with no losses and 6 kills (Suck on that XDs). I took Ontario from Scott with a couple troops dead, and pushed my way into The Eastern United States. I was in a bad position right now, though. I had all of a country but two spots. I was fairly strong in my border countries but luck could change all that. I knew the other players now knew that I wanted and probably would get N. America. Scott was now down to 4 countries. He drew his 3 armies and placed them in Madagascar along with all the other extra armies he could gather up from the other Negro Nations. He was finally holing up. Warren once again took 2 of Scott’s countries. Warren now had most of Africa and was a strong contender for Asia or Europe. Mr. Bob drew his armies and stayed on the defensive, preparing for another Nazi attack. Goat Boy took his troops and tried to eliminate the Jewish threat during his turn, mumbling nonsense about kosher food the whole time. Again not much happened but both players getting weakened. Aussie Boss’s turn came and ruined my day. Instead of putting his armies in Australia, he put them in Kamchatka. He wanted those armies too much to leave them up there in the Siberian cold. He pushed through my Precious Japan, sustaining few loses, and pushed in through Southern Asia to his homeland. He was now holed up, but I had lost a key country in my America-Asia push. That bastard would pay.
Battle4:
I took my 7 armies and beat the hell out of the rest of N. America; I was still pumped from the last battle I’d had. One in which I lost Japan. I now had control of a continent. I reinforced my borders and prepared my Yakutsk troops to push their way down to Japan and into Kamchatka next round. Scott holed up in Madagascar. Warren took the last country in Africa besides Madagascar. He also pushed into S. America and took two countries. That was a big mistake on his part. He had many troops and countries, yes, but he was now stretched dangerously thin over an extremely large area. Mr. Bob holed up. Goat Boy did the same racist routine during his turn but did barely any damage to Bob. Aussie Boss took advantage of the extra countries he had gained from his evil push and drew 7 armies. We now had 3 holed up players, 2 aggressive players with the world in mind, and one Nazi. This game could go anywhere from here.
Battle5:
I took Japan and Kamchatka on my turn. I now drew 9 armies a round. I took my troops from Alaska and sent them to my Asian fronts and to my Central American army, waiting to take S. America. Scott’s Fantasy did the best thing he could have for me. He lashed out at Warren’s sparsely defended African front, riding through the deserts on his giant tortoises. He withdrew to Madagascar. Warren, in a very bad position, drew his forces in to Europe and Asia. If he didn’t get attacked this next round he’d still be in the game. Mr. Bob, sick of being called a Jewish Whore, took a giant leap into the realm of bravery and literally took all of Eastern Asia and Most of Europe. He was thin but he had taken with him the Nazi, Goat Boy, and cleared out all of the weak little countries in Asia. Goat Boy stormed away from the table yelling IMBALANCE!! Aussie Boss holed up.
Battle6:
I made my S. American push, and took all of it. I edged into Europe by taking Iceland. The other players saw my advances and my two continents and knew it was over. Mr. Bob withdrew from the game, as did Scott’s Fantasy. Warren stayed and Aussie Boss did as well. Warren built up his borders and claimed a few extra countries that had been left empty. Aussie Boss holed up. I knew Aussie was going to take his huge army and try and take me out, because if he were going to hole up he would have left with the others. I made a mental note to keep a few armies away from him in case his attack did well.
Battle7:
I drew 14 armies this round and proceeded to eliminate Crushing Warren with relative ease. I offered him my hand and a “good game”. He left to join a Starcraft game, his mind screaming mass marine redemption. Aussie did as I expected. He lashed out from Indonesia and pushed through most of my Asian and N. American Armies. Bummer.
Battle8:
I turned in my 6 cards that just happened to make two sets and drew 10 extra armies. I then exacted judgment upon Aussie Boss.
Lessons Learned:
I am the master of Risk.
Don’t screw with me on Risk.
Holing up is a good tactic in Risk, but not in StarCraft.
StarCraft is cool, because no matter what, if you have 12 BCs and they have one marine, you’ll win. Luck makes it to where the marine could win in Risk.
Risk is fun. Play it often.
Hope you guys enjoyed this. It’s a change of pace anyway.
