DisgruntledApe versus Bulgarokton: The Lost Temple

Note: This report will be brief and is mainly for
[e]KrytpKeeper because he was an observer in this game and was going to do a Battle Report on it, but he lagged out about 1/4 of the way through.

I randomed and drew Zerg, starting at 9:00 A scouting Overlord proved that his Nexus had warped in at 12:00.

I made a hatch on 11/9 (fake extractor/colony) at my natural expansion. As soon as I could I threw up a few sunkens there and made about 8 - 10 zerglings.

I know Bulgarokton pretty well and I know the mechanics of his Build Order and I know he builds a lot of ground, only leaving High Temps and Cannons for air defense until late game. So, I decided to go for mutalisks.

I produced about 12 and sent them for his probe line. I ran into a few storms and about 5 cannons and I was toast, though. I didn't expect so many cannons. Oh well.

I expanded to the 6:00 start location because I craved gas. I then also threw up a Queen's Nest and Hydralisk Den.

Bulgarokton then began production of Reavers and High Templar, and expanded to the Top Left island expansion as I began to hatch cracklings and 2/2 hydralisks.

Very unwisely, I sent about 36 cracklings into Bul’s base, supported by about 9 hydralisks. All of my forces died but at the cost of his reavers, a few stray templar and all of the cannons at his expansion. I didn’t mind this loss because I was ahead in resources at the moment.

I then mutated my Spire into a Greater Spire and made around 11 gaurdians and 9 devourers and some scourge. I then attacked my way into Bul’s top left expansion just as 12+ dragoons were headed for my 6:00 expansion. I decided to let it die as I killed Bul’s expansion. An equal trade.

I decided to keep up the attack by going to his main. My gaurdians died to storm and dragoons but not before I could kill almost all of his corsairs and a few carriers. I retreated with the 9 devourers I still had.

I then focused on the production of Hydralisks. I expanded twice more. I also noticed that Bul had grabbed the 3:00 expansion. I didn’t mind though because I knew I had more expansions than him.

I just went crazy making hydralisks out of about 6 hatcheries. I sent wave after wave of 24 hydralisks supported by 12 devourers in case of carriers. Well, I did meet some carriers but only like 5. I crushed them under my thumb. The hydralisks killed all of their interceptors while my devoures concentrated their fire and killed the carriers off one by one. Psi Storm hurt a lot, but I just overran him with my supreme mineral advantage. Eventually, all of his buildings fell…

Good Game

Lessons Learned:

- BR’s suck when the author participates
- Psi Storm and Reavers own Zerg
- I was never attacked except at my expansion. I am not sure why I built any sunkens. I should have gone for all unit defense.
- I also need to build more spell casters like. Especially Queens but even a few defilers. Plague on Carriers hurts and Broodling is the answer to High Templar. But I am not much of a micro man =p I prefer the macro approach.

Word Up
