The Map:High Seas Combat (a personal favorite)
The Players:ChildOfWar and doomhammer
vs
Altas and Ben Dover
I started just north of Altas, seperated only by rock. The situation was the same in Ben and doomhammers case.
The map is basically a lot of land surrounding a lake, people generally seperated by rock or a small stream. I decided to risk a kewl strat and not get in the water. I upgraded to Keep as soon as I could and got a sizable force of ogres (2 dozen, meby) and about 4 sappers. I blew clean through the rock and rushed Altas with all I had. This was a battle I had to win or I would be left defenseless against his surviving force. Lucky for me, there was no surviving force. He had a HUGE navy just sitting outside of his bay and only a tower or two supported with archers for land defense. If anyone has seen an archer against an ogre, you will know just how bad a beating he got. I razed his town and left his fleet for last.
My ally was a total newbie, but he didn't get killed, which is more than I can say for Atlas. I build a shipyard and a foundry in the small stream that led to the next island circled the islands, blowing through and building shipyards when needed. Then I hit Ben Dover in a similar fashion, blowing through and attacking him with lusters. He had heard the horror stories from Atlas though and had taken the time to get cannon towers and paladins. I took a moment and built towers and 4 barracks on his island to support my already hurt army. He held out, and just as it looked like things were going his way, he was surprised on the other side by my ally who blew through the rock and hit him with a huge force of runts, cats and juggs. The rest of the game I spent flying around the map with dragons looking for the units they had hidden as they died.
Lessons Learned:
1)-Just because it it a sea map doesn't mean you have to show your pasty white skin and get your feet wet.
2)-You CAN win with a newbie ally!
3)-Rock - you love it, you hate it, you can blow it up.
4)-2 on 2's suck!
More later, all for now
