I played a pub 2v2 with a guy from nohunters on Lost Temple. My ally was zerg and I was Terran with our enemies being Toss and a Zerg. The Zerg played, some guy named Xexor with weird symbols before and after his name (I did not write them down as I was not goign to write a br at that point), 4-pooled me killing my only marine before I could react and hide it among my SCVs. He then proceeded to raze my supply depo, forcing me to lift off. Fortunately, my ally rushed down our Toss opponent and we ended up killing them as I started to rebuild having saved some minerals during his attack. At that point Xexor started whining that I should have been dead and saying that he wanted to play me to... well to school me. I agreed, and we decided to rematch on PGL Lost Temple (to allow observer) with my ally as an observer.
The Game:
Wanting to eliminate any possible obstacles in this game, I picked my favorite race, the Zerg and ended up at the 3 o'clock while he randomed to Zerg at 12. I went for my usual build
8-lord
9-hatchery at choke
11-pool
14-extractor, 4 drones on it as soon as t completed
16-lord
after hatchery and pool completed 1 sunken on the ridge near 2nd hatchery and started 3rd hatchery at my natural reinforcing it with 6 lings sending 2 of them to scout the other two starts. My enemy went for a double hatchery at his main a hidden pool behind his drones, near the extarctor.
First Blood:
When my expansion hatxhery was almost done, he attacked me with a horde of about 14 lings. My sunken on top scared him and he tried to attack my expansion instead of xharging up my ramp. I hastily ordered 10 more lings made from my existing 2 hatcheries as I kept attcking him with my surviving 3 lings and retreating them to the cliff near the sunken as he tried to attack them. His weakened attack force died as my reinforcements poured in with me only loosing 3 zerglings. During that attack I got a bi too startled and when I recovered, I saw that I had 16 lings and 2 sunkens protecting y expansion.
Careful Retaliation:
As I started to tech to mutas, I sent all my 16 lings to his choke and parked there. I sent a ling to scout his natural and found it not occupied. I then ran the ling up his ramp and saw that he put a sunken there and one sunken nehind it. I saw no troops however as my ling almost managed to get by and around the 2 sunkens. I started my spire and sent 3 lings to scout out the possibily of striking him from the back. The lings made it around the sunkens and right into his drone line. My suspicion was right, he had no troops what so ever. I rushed the remaining 12 lings in, around the sunkens and into the drone lines. As they finished the remaining drones and the extractor, 12 of his newly morphed lings came to the rescue and killed my attackers as they tried to tear down the spawning pool. At that point Xexor started filling the screen with cries such as "What a cheap move!" and, "I knew I should not have let the observer come in, he told you everything!" Apparently, he had a common b.net sickness that makes people yell, "Hacker!" as soon as they start loosing.
"I have you now!" Lord Vader in episode IV of Star Wars
My attackers died but it did not matter as at that point my spire popped up and I started morphing my first 6 mutas. The mutas came into his base and started pounding on the new generation of drones just as Xexor quit with a cry, "Cheap cheater!" as his congratulation.
Lessons learned:
-Double hatchery lings against zerg do not work all that well if he is going for double hatchery to expansion. It is too easy to hold off the attack if it comes early until you get reinforcements and it is simply not enuf later on.
-If you ignore the preceeding advice and do rush with lings from 2 hatcheries, make sure you make defense afterwards.
-Either put enough sunkens at you choke to stop the attack there, or concentrate on defending your workers. |
