It was a ladder game on temple, I picked Terran and my opponent picked Zerg. Being a bit paranoid of hard ling rushers since I got 4 pooled (which was followed up by contants lings after that) a couple games earlier, I went barracks/depot/barracks all on 10. You may think this is late, but your first marine will pop out just as the 4 pool is arriving (about 3:30 game time, depending on start spots). Still, not enough time to get a bunker up, but if you can skirmish a bit and delay the lings, you can. By the way, I did this in that game I got 4 pooled, and ended up winning.
Anyways, 6 lings never came, since he was lurker rushing, as I found out when I scouted him at 6:00. He didn't have a sunken, or lings, so I decided to gamble since I was a bit slow because of my build order. I sent 6 marines and 6 SCVs out. When I got down there, he had a ling watching outside his natural, and by the time I got to his base, there wer 2 sunkens going up and a handful of lings. I failed at a bunker by his extractor, and tried to get the den down, but the sunkens came online and I couldn't quite get it. Overall, this was quite a failure.
Knowing that lurkers were coming, I had started an academy and factory shortly after my rush left. And of course, I'd build up some marines and medics and a tank to defend, right? Well, not exactly. scouted around my plateau looking for a lurker drop preparing, and sure enough, I saw 2 lurker eggs and an overlord. This is where my plan started taking shape, and I optic flared the lord which had now picked up both lurkers! Then I put a bunker up near my CC, and put a couple marines in. Shortly after 2 overlords slowly began floating in. I tried to shoot one down with the 3 marines I had, but wasnt fast enough.
Then the flares began flying. I had just got a tank up by my bunker, and killed 1 of the 4 lurkers. I flared everything else, including the overlord. I still couldnt mine with 3 lurkers buried in my mineral line, blind or not. He then tried to spot with the blind overlord, but ended up getting it killed in bunker range. Then I had time to get enough scans and tank shots off to kill the lurkers one by one. He did end up trying to get 2 of them close enough to see something, but with no luck, as the bunker and tank dispatched them.
I won't bore you with the rest of the game, which I won, because the real amazing part of it was that the 'useless' optic flare saved the day!
Oh, and just curious as to why 3 raters have the time to give Mark4 reports a rating but somehow completely overlook my report from earlier this week? I'm sure you have the time to skim it and give my a 5, if you can justify that.
