| WHEE HAW!!! 2:35!!! Thanks breakfast and mav!!! | | | Author: | | | IP: | XXXX | | Date: | 06/01/99 12:06 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | none | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 3, Max: 10, Min: 9 Lifetime Rating for .Praetor: 8.2987 | | No pictures again. I didn't take them until the end anyway. This report also won't be as detailed or comprehensive as my others. No one has that good a memory. I also don't remember the map name. There were six starts (I think) at 12, 2 4, 6, 8, and 10. There were also three expansion also with gas, but a few less minerals. These were a little closer to the center in between these spots, at 3, 5, and 9. In the middle there were two min only expansion and two gas expansion, all seperated by high ground in the shape of an X.
I'm in nohunters, thinking I should go to homework. But along comes somepeople, and mav[@3] and I go for our third 2v2 in a row, the second with breakfast. Smoked-Pork elected to join as well.
The teams were me and breakfast, vs pork and mav3, but Pork dropped shortly into the game, whereupon, me mav and breakfast shared vision for a few seconds, then went on to ffa.
On the volcanic moon of Tyma, Phoenix Legion scouts noticed a very rich area. Electing to begin mining operations, Praetor dispatched a Command Center to the moon, as well as four SCV's to begin operations. The Phoenix Legion set up at the middle of the far north, planning on extending their influence south from there. Unfortunately, it soon became known that the nefarious pirate group, Mav's Marauders, and the evil Cerebrate Breakfast were also planning on contesting the moon. After Breakfast's hatchery had been discovered at bottom middle, Mav was found closer by at the 10:00 location. Soon, jamming mechanisms were in place, and most of the moon was plunged into darkness, no longer registering on the screens of my Command Center.
Preparing to meet the threats, I started production of several SCV's, soon after followed by a supply depot, and two barracks in succession. Counting on my opponents planning on building up before any offensive move, a Refinery was soon constructed, and only one bunker was filled before another supply depot went up, soon followed by a second Command Center on the highground at 2 o'clock. A bunker there was filled, and my factory started on seige mode, as well as tanks, and I started a starport. My main was brimming with SCV's by now, and so I ceased production of workers. After I had two tanks out and seiged, I started production on another starport, to better service the Legion's fleets. At my expansion, I started a refinery, as well as more SCV's.
About now, alarms went off, and the dull thud of Arclite Cannon fire could be heard outside of the Command Center. Terrified SCV's quickly reported they were being attacked from the high ground. Damn. I had tried to land a starport there, but several odd rock formations had prevented this early warning system. I quickly ordered my tanks to return fire, only to find that they were out of range. They unseiged as fast as their machinery would allow, only to be prevented from moving towards the intruder by diligent SCV's mining vespene. Soon sickened by the loss of life among my brave SCV's, I moved my tanks in near the mineral patches. The tanks were fired upon just in time to glipse the transport dropping off the second offender. Still determined, my tanks seiged, and fired at the offenders. Once the roar of the artillery had ceased, it was known Mav's Marauders still had one heavily damaged tank. I now knew they couldn't be written off as pirates barely keeping their band together. Not worried, I sent in my SCV's to mine again, and killed the last tank with three of my wraith which had newly come down from orbit. Noticing the lack of money on my part, I started more SCV's at my expansion, as well as two science vessels, my science facility having recently finished. Soon, guass fire disrupted the peace of my wraith, who were forced to retreat off of the ridge. Annoyed at the delay of production, I lost two more brave workers to guass fire before a third seige tank rolled off of the production lines. Sieging it, the marines quickly ceased firing, for fear of revealing their position. At my expansion, I started two armouries, for the fleets I planned on possessing, and also an acadamy and a supply depot. I started researching cloak for my wraith. For detection and reconaissance, I also started two comsat stations. Once cloak finished, I went back to my ridge to remove the marine oresence there. My wraith quickly retreated after one of their comrades was downed by turret fire. Most annoyed at Mav's useless tenacity, I built another tank, and brought it next to my starport and sieged. A few comsats later, both the marines and the turrets were cleared from the pitted surface of my high ground. Having full production online again, I ordered three more wraith, and also started ship upgrades for both armour and weapons. A seige tank was ordered to reinforce my bunker at my expansion.
Soon after this reinforcement, my fears were confirmed, and overlords soon appeared over my expansion, ignoring guass fire from the bunker. The tank boomed, and the marines quickly reacquired a new target, and the first hydra landing was dead as it hit the ground. Those that followed were more successful. Soon, my SCV's were all called off of production, to frantically throw plates of armour on the bunker, even as those already there melted under the acid and spines of the hydralisks. Once the bunker had fallen, my SCV's quickly retreated to my main, and the research on ship construction was cancelled. My science facility and Comamand Center were lifte off of the ground and retreated to the notrh. I started researching irradiate at the sci facility at my main (I had constructed 2 by accident), and built two more Sci vessels. To my surprise, Breakfast let seven of his eight remaining hydras chase down my sci facility and cc. Grinning, I send my 6 wraith to kill the one left at my expansion, and also destroyed his three overlords. Figuring on a retreat by his hydras, I ordered an SCV at the crowded minerals of my main to replace the command center at my expansion. But breakfast must have been upset with his hydras for not leaving the CC to be infested, because he took them back to my expansion, killing the SCV working on a new CC there. I responded with my wraith, cloaked this time. Breakfast promptly ran the hydras towards my base. I sent another SCV by a different route to finish the replacement CC at my expansion. The hydras soon ran by my main, and the tank by my starports fired a shell directly into their line of march. The tank was quickly sheilded, and the remaining hydras either died to it, the other tank by my bunker, or ran to the west. Rather pleased with the tactical, if not the operative, success of the campaign, I rebuilt my expansion, started the air upgrades - this time at my new armouries at my main, I had 4 =(, and built two more sci vessels, I also filled a bunker at my expansion, and planned to lie low for awhile.
After about a minute, I hear a scary *Nuclear Lauch Detected* interrupt the quiet of my operations room. The call immediatly goes out to all units I have, to look high and low for a red dot. None is found, and after an appropriate amount of time, I cease worrying. Several scans reveal more about the map. The nuke site is quickly found at Breakfast's main, where structures still stand, though they are all severly bleeding. This rogue cerebrate still controls the whole bottom half of the map though. Mav's Marauders are deeply entrenched in three strong bases covering the upper left corner. I currently had six wraith, four science vessels, and had begun construction of three more Battlecruisers. I also had a transport, which soon picked up four marines and two scv, looking for bases in the middle of the map. A gas only site is discovered, and I reluctantly set down my cargo, and begin a command center and a bunker. Returning to my main, I pick up four more marines, and two more SCV and find a mineral only site as well. Beginning the same structures, I return witht the transport to my base. About this time, several annoying cracklings come by and destroy a starport before my battlecruisers can finish them. They are followed by slower hydras, but I manage to lose only one BC to about twelve hydra due to sheilding and irradiation. I set about repairing my units, and move SCV's to my expansion. I also start more marines, and continue upgrading and building my fleet.
Two more nukes are soon launched. One is against Breakfast, but no more is known other than it hit. The second is aimed aginst my Battlecruisers, but my science vessel soon finds the offending ghost, and it is cut apart by lasers from the capitol ship, ans also irradiated. Deciding to control the middle, which I soon find has three bridges leading to it, I send two more teams of marines with scv's. The first kills an enemy SCV and starts another expansion at a mineral only site, the other team kills a drone, and takes the last gas only site. I begin construction of valkyries, and move my forces, 6 wraith, 4 BC, and eight fully upgraded Sci vessels to the center. I soon notice a wing of devourers approaching the center from the bottom left corner. Taking no chances, I move my Science vessels to an intercept course, and irradiate about eight of the ten devourers or so, I then retreat to the vicinity of my battlecruisers and valkyrie, and the devourers die a quick death. This attack is soon followed up at my mineral only expansion by an attack by cracklings, which raze the bunker before my battlecruisers can come and attack the offenders. Several devourers wing their way in again, and irradiate is generously applied to the attackers. Just before the devourers die, a large group of hydras makes its way over the land bridge, and attempts to finish the assualt. I come close to losing my last battlecruiser, but sheild and generous amounts of irradiate finish the problem. My three new BC come down to the aid of my beleagured outpost. Scanning around, I find that white has lost a base on the west side of the map, about 8 o'clock, but is rebuilding. He has also taken two more expansions on the east side, which is "my" area, not Mav's. I decide to remove the infestation near me post haste, and grin as a call up control group one, which orders six wraith. After I ordered the wraith to be found for the third time, I realize I no longer had any wraith on the battlefield. I could only assume that they had died in the recent hydra assualt. Of Breakfast's new bases one is heavily defended, but the one closest to the recent battles is not. Neither is his new one on the west side. I send fire teams consisting of newly newly 3 marines and a medic each team. I only had to wait for the equipping of the two medics before they are off and marching towards the new expansions. Another few nukes dropped. Neither were on me, nor did I expect them to be.
My fire teams met with mixed success. At the west expansion, they killed a marine they had ambled by, and them went towards Breakfast's new outpost, and killed all the drones there, which were all mining gas. They had barely begun shooting at the hatchery before cracklings arrived from another base, and were also grown to finish them off. At the east base, they shot at the hatchery for quite some time, until hydralisks eventually arrived to save the expansion. Soon after that, Mav decided it was imperative he expand again. Unfortunately for him, his SCV died to bunker fire at my newest mineral only expansion. Expecting a forced occupation of the spot, I move my Battlecruisers, Science vessels, and Valkyries into position. As his mixed infantry and medics arrive, backed by two golaith, I head in with my BC. Two marines are quickly dead, but a ghost soon locks down my battle cruiser. The rest of the force takes out my bunker, and the golaith start to hit my locked-down BC, pulling the other BC's back for fear of more lockdown, I proceed to irradiate 3 ghosts, about twice each. I give up as I see sufficient medics to not run out of energy healing everyone in sight, and also removing the iraddiation with restore. I retreat what forces I have, just in time to send my three BC to my gas only expansion, which loses it's bunker to fully upgraded cracklings. My BC's make quick work of the lings, and I land my CC again, and begin the base anew. Pulling my air forces back to my min-only expansion, I bring down my reinforcing BC and valkyrie, bringing my forces to eight science vessels, six battlecruisers, and four valkyrie. Knowing Mav's marauders and Breakfast's swarm must be fighting viciously, I decide to destroy the other expansion Breakfast has on the west side. I attack with half my BC sheilded, and quickly irradiate several devourers. The sickness quikly spreads, and I leave my valkyrie to finish the air threat, my BC's are ordered to attack the several hydras which are reinforcing from the south, and I irradiate a large number of those forces as well. I destroy these forces, but am left without any more battlecruisers, so I retreat and take my Sci vessles and valkyries away from the battle. When my fourth replacement battlecruiser is finished, Breakfast initiates a massive hydra drop on my original expansion, which has been mined out with the exception of one patch of about 350 minerals. I let it fall, and retreat my forces to the expansion of Breakfast's I had razed before the abortive attack on his fortified expansion. Wearily, I start another CC, and begin repair of my forces. I defeat several devourers by dint of irradiate, and irradiate 2 defilers who plague two of my Battle cruisers. As hydras raze my main, I take my BC's and destroy Breakfast's fortified expansion which I had had so much trouble with. After yamatoing the spore colonies, I destroyed the nydus canal and the rest of the base, including the larvae, I then retreated to my new CC, where I transferred my command staff and began repairs on my ships. Adding insult to injury, Mav came to my gas only expansion with marines, stimmed, and attacked, killing everything but my refinery, when I arrived with my battlecruisers and killed the marines. Depressed, I withdrew to my meager holdings. After irradiating three more defilers, who don't plague my new base, Breakfast leaves me to my fate. His fortified expansion had been mined out, but the new one I occupied had not yet been touched. Cracklings soon came by and destoryed my only remaining mineral only base. With my 6 SCV, I mined and began constructing supply depots for my hungry toops, as my supply was at 6320. It soon became 6310, as blue found my original gas-only expansion and destroyed it. I had 100 minerals and about 4000 gas.
During the next while, I slowly built up. I moved my Command Center from the mineral only base around scouting, and eventually back to my original expansion, where I built two more SCV to mine away at the 350 minerals there. I constructed enough depots to begin building again, then two barracks and more depots, followed by an acadamy. This was followed by two engineering bays and a comsat station. Once my BC's killed 6 lings passing by the edge of my base. Two nukes fell, I didn't even have to check hard for the red dot. Soon though, I was feeling better. My medics were fully upgraded, and I began construction of a factory to get a starport to get a science faciliy to upgrade further my infanty and to get ghosts. I built a large amount of medics, marines, and firebats, and sent two groups of 12 to my old min-only expansion. I flew my command center from my original expanison, which was now completely mined out, there, and began mining operations. I fully upgraded my ghosts, as well as infantry weapons and armour, and built two more groups of infantry.
By this time comsats made it clear that Mav was driving back the Zerg swarm of Cerebrate Breakfast into retreat. Deciding to take advantage of the occasion, I moved two more infantry groups around the center high ground to the other mineral only expansion I destroyed everthing there, but that was only a some infantry. I did leave the nuclear silo, and floated my cc from the other mineral only expansion over. My SCV continued mining the long way, as there was little left there. There was no nuke in the silo, but I built one anyway. I then cloaked a ghost and sent him to what was now Mav's main expansion, which still had some minerals. A science vessel detected the ghost, and more ghosts in a bunker killed it, but I sent over another by a more roundabout route. Coming from the top, I launched my nuke, soon commenting "oh how sweet it is. Isn't it odd how no one seems to take over old addons anymore? =)" Breakfast found this very humorous, especially after the nuke killed a battle cruiser, a science vessel, ten SCV's, and severely wounded a refinery, CC, and a nuke silo. Two more battlecruisers were left at 4 and 6 units of structural integrity. My ghost was destroyed by those same battlecruiser seconds before the blast. I started building another nuke. Soon after, I ran into yet another group of devourers over the high ground in the middle, they immediately targeted my Science vessels, destroying two, before the vessels irriadiated a large number of the host, and retreated into the waiting halo missles of my valkyrie. Breakfast announced that it was obvious he was now the weakest power in the game, and went into full retreat.
My new base was now mined out, so I switched SCV to gas, and also the long trek. I took a transport of SCV and moved them to the often fought over base that ususally belonged to Breakfast, and resided on the western edge of the map. I also attacked two infantry groups to the area, but they ran into infanty of Mav's, as well as science vessles, and only four of the leading medics made it to their destination. My SCV decided against a new Command Center on account of the lack of defense, and I sent two more groups of infantry to destroy the base of Mav's that was closest to my original main. Unfortunately, they ran by Mav's main on the way, and died to a large number of golaiths and supporting infantry, despite several lockdowns and deaths on Mav's side. The golaiths and a small group of infantry then moved to my nuke expansion, which was destroyed, and suddenly *Nuclear Lauch Detected* and *Nulcear Launch Detected. One of the launches was mine, to rid my silo that was under attack. It was simply on some sci vessels since I had no other choice, and I relied on my Ghost's ocular implants to make the Nuke successful. That failed. The other Nuke I saw leaving the silo before the warning, as I comsatted the base I had failed to attack earlier. Frantically looking around, I never found the nuke, so I moved all of my forces. This was fortunate for a minute later, I found taht all of my BC and Sci Vessels had been damaged, but none lost. Knowing I could not sustain this massive loss of life, I switched to defensive mode, and massed my four BC, three Valkyrie, six Science Vessles, and two groups of ghosts and medics together. I soon discoverd a ghost with a diversionary tank intending to nuke from across the moat that seperated my new main from the center expansions. I yamatoed the tanks, but the ghost lockdowned my BC. I brought over a science vessel to irradiate the ghost.
Breakfast was not having an easy time at all. Scouting overlords had passed over his former expansion, where SCV's of mine were very slowly mining. My four medics decided to try out their new optic flares and, sure enough, five of the seven overlords were blind before they left the area. "I can't see!" cried the alarmed Cerebrate. A comsat revealed that Mav had destroyed Breakfast's main, leaving the Cerebrate with only two bases left in the lower right corner, defended by two sunkens each.
Mav soon attacked my massed forces with some golaith, supporting infantry, and some science vessels. His infantry were soon killed by my ghosts, which promptly cloaked. Mav sheilded a few golaith, and lockdowned my BC, but I sheilded my BC, and restored them, while locking down Mav's golaith, which were promptly restored and then locked down again, was were my BC, which were restored again, whereupon his forces were destroyed, and he retreated his Science vessels. Knowing our troops were essentially set, both Mav and I had gone into SuperMicro mode.
Soon after this attack, my remote mining at Breakfast's old expansion revealed vital intelligence. A guardian and several overlords had appeared, and after I blinded the guardian, the overlords expelled their content to prevent the blinding of the rest of the overlords, many of whom were already impaired. To my medic's astonishment, a massive Ultralisk was the first to disembark, followed by almost 24 hydralisks. They had but the chance to let out one last scream before kaiser blades and spines delivered unto them the afterlife. After sufficent time to be sure that the overlords were headed to decide Breakfast's long standing battles with Mav's Marauders, I sent four BC down to the closer of Mav's bases, destroying everything but the refinery. Soon after, there was cursing from Mav, followed by *Nuclear launch detected* I didn't find the dot early, so I moved all my forces a small ways away from their current positions, and scanned after an appropriate time. Mav's other base had been nuked. During the scan, I saw the ghost aim again, and *Nuclear Launch Detected* was announced. Scouting with Valkyrie, I saw that Breakfast had indeed attacked Mav. I killed an overlord and took my valkyrie back. Breakfast now confirmed he was entirely spent, and had nothing but his extractor Mav and I let him observe the Terran forces which had defeated the swarm.
Knowing that now was the time to act, I moved my two groups of ghosts and medics, four BC, six Sci vessles, three valkyrie, and four SCV for repairs up towards the base I had failed to attack earlier. Using Yamato, I quickly removed the base of turrets, and found an empty bunker. Killing two tanks still there, I finshed the refinery and nuclear silo without CC. After a scan, I found the CC at the only place with minerals left, Breakfast's old expansion, where I had been long-distance mining. His troops were moving out for the final showdown. I moved my BC into place, and began the assualt on the Marauder's main. His Factory and a Barracks were soon destroyed when two Battlecruisers arrived, knowing what must happen, I frantically sheilded. Unfortunately, I chose the wrong two Battlecruisers, and lost one captiol ship to yamato. I quickly returned the favor, and Mav took his one battle cruiser out of range. I destroyed the last turret, and started shooting depots when his main force came up. The BC's were sheilded, and the ghosts cloaked. I started the battle with an irradiate among his infantry and began massive lockdown, as two tanks seiged and golaiths entered the fray, the battlecruiser also reappeared. I managed to lockdown both the tanks and the golaiths, while he locked down my BC and science vessels. I restored as fast as possible, while he concentrated on locking down. I was winning the battle, destroying a bunker, two golaith, a science vessel, and Mav's last Battlecruiser, with only the loss of six ghosts and some medics.
My mouth literally falls open as I see the nuclear missle dropping. In the frantic spell casting, I had never even noticed the warning. This explained the concentration on locking down, not restoring. Soon after, he restored most of his remaining forces. He had two tanks and two golaith left, along with one ghost an a few medics. A large section of his main was also burning, and he was not about to repair. I, on the other had, had only five Science vessels left, and I retreated back to my new main, building 6 more ghosts and a bunker. I formally asked for terms, but the commander of the Marauders showed his true pirate side and would settle only for unconditional surrender. Deciding to see what damage I could do, I sent a Science vessel over to the mining base, to see a new vulture roll off the shelves. To show Mav I still had a few teeth, I irradiated the three SCV that were at the base, sending another Science vessel down, which irradiated another three SCV. The other 6 SCV, drawn from gas prodcution as many of them held gas, finished mining the base. Soon another nuke is announced, I frantically look around my base, but do not irradiate the ghost in time. I lose all my remaining SCV, and my valkyrie. I still have 5 science vessels and the four ghosts I had placed in a bunker.
There were a few short skirmishes as Mav tries to EMP my forces, but I lockdown and destroy a science vessle and irradiate a ghost before he sends in his mass of troops. After another request for terms, I send in my four ghosts as a diversion, locking down one science vessle, and left the planet, just barely leaving my burning CC, for the safety of a science vessel. Mav's Marauders spend their time plundering my scattered depots, and I leave with four Science vessels, as well as two engineering bays, a science facility, a factory, and a starport. Mav's Marauders have a new operating base, if one in need of extensive repairs and devoid of minerals. It is still definitely a victory for him, and he has almost 20 working units. As I leave for the Legion's base of operations on another planet, which remains sadly unextended, I inform the Protoss of the location of the Breakfast Cerebrate, as well as the frequencies with which they can contact Mav, should they wish to destroy the Zerg commander. I suspect, however, that the cerebrate will escape as Mav tries to charge the Protoss with the pleasure of destroying the vile creature.
-------
Whoo hooo! That was a great game. Afterwards Mav said that at one point the only thing defending his main from a horde of cracklings were two d-matrixed and stimmed firebats. Breakfast said he can't believe he lost, having at one time controlled 34 the map. This is true, as I had only my one base, and Mav had been temporarily reduced to 2. Though, at the same time, Breakfast had been slimmed down to three or four bases even if he controlled movement =). It was a good thing I didn't defend my main. It was better (and cheaper!!) for me to rebuild the entire tech tree, than lose my considerable fleet. At one point I had only two refineries, one of which was working, the CC for that refinery, a CC in progress, and a CC floating around the map. Mav was never in such dire straits (=)), but at times his standing forces were much lower than my little fleet defending my base. The number of nuke lauched was probably around 10 or 12, two of them being mine. I researched everything but stuff dealing with the factory, and also siegemode. The game lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes. Not my longest game, but possibly the best! I must thank Mav and Breakfast for a great game, and Pork, if he hadn't dropped it wouldn't have been possible =). I didn't take screenshots for the same reason I usually don't take screenshots, not expecting a blockbuster game, and not having the time in battle. I did take pictures of the stats, but I bet Johnny still doesn't have this darn page working with Netscape! We'll see when I submit. |
