Why Me?

Hello Children. Uncle Fractal here, to tell you a story of a very dangerous, scary man. His name is .Praetor. Why is he scary & dangerous? Well, we'll get into that..

THE MAP: Rivalry.
.Praetor: Randoms to Purple Terran in Top-Right corner.
Fractal_Wave: Selects Brown Terran in Bottom-Right corner.

Already I can see you laughing, or maybe bringing out a pillow & hot chocolate. Terran on Terran on Rivalry? ~yawn~

heh. Little do you know. Listen well, my children, & I shall speak to you of the time the two masters danced together in a battle of epic proportions...danced to a beat that was...well, let's just say it was DIFFERENT.

And, Praetor's purple. That immdiatly makes things interesting, right?

I began the match with my usual, basic, boring Terran-against-random build of Depot on 8, Barracks on 10, Barracks on 12, Depot on 15, and then fake it from there. I send a happy scv out a-scouting the map for Praetor. About this time, a purple SCV wanders in to my base. Praetor takes a look around my base, grins evilly, and build a refinery on my gas.

Well. Shit. I kill the SCV with two of mine, and have a refinery with 329 hit points on MY gas. Yep. Shit. My 1st marine finishes and begins pounding on it, as will the rest of my marines

For a change, i scout in the right direction, and find my most worthy opponent, with gas, a depot for walling-in, and a suitable amount of SCVs. No barracks? oh, he's building something at his choke. That must be it. Now, here's where I get clever. I commence building a bunker at Praetor's natural, aiming to create an impregnable wall that my enemy cannot break. I direct my 8 - 10 marines out to hold this strong hold.

However, the Praetor has other ideas. He's done the same thing, with a bunker at MY natural. And a forward barracks. My marines being firing on the bunker, which is loaded with two marines.

Bang! Pow! Ka-pwingggg! Whhhhheeeeeet! Ugh! Thwdmmp!

(Rifle Noises)

"damn. No acad with out barracks =[=["
-.Praetor

I tear down Prae's bunker, and leave a few marines to raze the barracks while the rest of them move out to MY forward base. Which is, at least, still alive. I build a second bunker, and fill both bunks with 3 marines. Back home, I build an engineering bay for turrets in case of wraith, and build a factory at my forward base. I also scout with a lone marines & see that Prae has 4 vultures. Said vultures quickly poke holes in my marine. I build a 3rd bunker to prevent ANYTHING from slipping by. I absoultely refuse to let Praetor molest my peons with vultures. Let him indulge his sick fantasies elsewhere.

I get my tank out just as seige finishes. I roll it up between my bunkers and slam it in to seige mode. Now NOTHING is getting out. I add two missile turrets, in case of wraith.

THOOM! whhhhheeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooo....KATHWOOM!

(Science Vessel / Arclite Cannon Noises)

Yes. Praetor has flown up the tech tree faster than Johhny_Vegas after a bug in his code. His science vessel is providing spotting for a seige tank on his cliff. It can just barely shell my tank and lead bunkers. Hrmm.

"been teching much lately prae?"
-Fractal_Wave

I concede the loss of the lead tank and let it blast away at Prae's tank...I lose my lead bunkers, but save a token few marines who don't feel the need to try to kill a seige tank. (Stupid redneck marines).

I build three tanks out of my factory while building an acadamy at home and getting a comsat. I also build an engineering bay for spotting. I plan to bludgeon my way through Prae's blockade.

"this is the sillest T v T ever"
-Aristocrat-X

Three tanks + 8 marines (on low ground) vs 2 tanks + 2 vultures (on high ground)(1 science vessel)

How's THAT for a math equation.

Bang! Bang! wheet! thdoom! thdoom! yaiigh!

tsssssssss-KA-BOOM!
thwadoom! btssssss-twink!

(battle noises)

Praetor makes creative use of defensive matrix, carefully placed vultures, and a very annoying 2nd seige tank to utterly decimate my strike team. As his tanks being pounding on my bunkers, I retreat my factory, and begin a real T v T strat. Wraith. I lay down three starports, get cloak, and begin wraith production in earnest.

"oh. nukes. great."
-Fractal_Wave

My comsat scan of Praetor's base reveals two factories, two barracks, a starport, and a nuclear silo. Hm. This....could prove problematic. I build a Science Facilty for mobile detection, and send my 1st wraith scouting around the map for evil purple bases. I also find minerals enough to conjure up a command center to float to somewhere exciting.

About this time, my loveable opponent wanders a ghost in to my base, and...

vzzzzzmmmmm...
"nuclear launch detected"
...
.. - auuuiiigh!

A scan, 5 wraiths and 2 marines later, there's a bloody pulp on the ground. I can hear Praetor swearing softly to himself. The nuke has been interdicted.

My lone wraith spies .Praetor expanding to the top-left position. I move my fleet of 7 wraiths & a science vessel out to rip shit up, yo. I also lift off my now completed command center, lift it off, and begin floating it to the bottom - left start spot.

As my wraiths are putting pin-holes in to Praetor's command center with their industrial(knitting industry)-strength lasers, Praetors decides to retaliate. A ghost wanders into my base, points a little red dot at my star ports, and...

vzzzzzzzzmmmmmmmm...
"nuclear launch detected"
twinkle-twinkle-twinkle
bang! whhhhhheeeeeet! ow!!owwwch!
...
...
THWADABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
crackle-crackle-crakle.....

My few marines almost kill the ghost, but his hunka-hunka burning Praetor love lands firmly on my starports and scvs. Over the buzz of radiation, the snap & crackle & pop of burning buildings and the groans of the dying, i can clearly hear the Praetor's ghostly laughter. I begin to repair my structures, but lose an acadamy to the vengeful flames.

My wraith squadron has taken down Praetor's top-left expansion, and my bottom-left expansion is just coming on-line...so maybe there is hope for the world. Then again, maybe not, as my wraiths discover a fully operational purple base at 12:00. Well. Shit. I bring my wraith squadrom up to 11 wraiths & my sci vessel, cloak and move in for the kill, just as...

vzzzzzzzzmmmmmmmm...
nuclear launch detected

THWADATHBOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM

Although my wraiths do a decent amount of damage to Prae's expansion, I am missing my science facility, most of my supply depots, even MORE scvs, and.....yeah. first one side of my base was burning, now the other side is. Now I can hear Prae humming "Disco Inferno" to himself.

vvzzzzzzzzz - alright, no more sound effect. He nuked me. Again. Killed my starports and barracks. I was not pleased. However, there was suprisingly little I could do about it, as most of my scvs were so much radioactive dust. What few troops are still alive I run to my bottom-left expansion.

I won't get into the very-late-game. Suffice to say it cause our observer to leave in disgust, and praetor to waste about 5 nukes trying to catch a running command center and SCVS.

It was painful. Very. I'm still on medication from it. I havn't been able to leave my room for a week for fear of being nuked. My girlfriend left. But......but im over all that...bad stuff now. I'm fine. Perfectly Fine, and Well-adjusted and...and......ogodthenukesthey;reeverywherehehhehhwwhere.....

GG Prae.

All the best,
