My friend and i decided to play a random pubbie game, so the intent to BR this happened mid-game. Ive been having problems with the pics so i decided to quit delaying and just post this without em. So excuse the lack of pics.
Map: Rivalry
starting positions:
Me: protoss bottom left
RealityCheck..: Terran bottom right
Andor_drakon toss top left
Killean terran top right.
I started off with a standard 2 gate tech to goons build while RealityCheck.. with a 2 rax going for M&M. We each scouted directly above us. I discovered that Andor_drakon was teching with 1 gate and early gas. His partner Killean was going M&M with 2 raxs. I got 3 zealots and started getting dragoons. RealityCheck.. continued with his M&M force. Knowing that Andor_drakon was teching, we figured he would be open to a rush and also wanted to kill him before his secret weapon was revealed. We each scouted with our workers again, confirming Killean M&M plans and surprisingly discovering Andor_drakon's.
As my probe ascended his ramp it was met by 2 zealots and 4 goons. This would have been a wasted scouting venture except for the fact that a robotics bay was just warping in right near the choke. Why he put it right there im not sure, but im not complaining. I brought my 3 zealots and 6 dragoons up while RealityCheck.. brought his force of roughly 12 M&M. Poor micro on my part and retarded goon AI left most of my goons running around like idiots while the zealots and marines worked their way up the ramp. We broke the ramp blockade and I ran my goons straight up. He was now down to about 3 dragoons and his first reaver popped out. It tried to run away to build up scarabs but marines quickly chased it down and the one scarab it got off before it died killed 2 marines. Dragoons kept coming out of his 2 gateways (he built a 2nd one after our initial scouting). His robotics facility had been taken down, along with a few random pylons.
While this was happening, I began to worry about the army of marines and medics I knew Killean had been producing. I warped in a forge while I continued making goons. I warped a cannon behind my probes(this was before we attacked) and a pylon at my choke. Just as my pylon at my ramp came in in, they hit me. My 4 dragoons i had continued building were still outside their gateways and not in a position to hold the ramp. They were killed easily and I started warping a cannon in near my probes.
RealityCheck.. told me he could handle the rest of the protoss base and to send my units home which consisted of 1 damaged zealot and 3 damaged goons. My pylons powering the gateways were targeted first, and my unit construction was now halted. As I warped a second cannon, in better position to defend my probes, the marines attacked it while being shot up by the first cannon. He was now down to about 6 marines from the original 12. My forces returning home reduced this to 3. Things were very grim. I had tons of money and gas but nothing to use it on. I rushed my probes at him and managed to kill the last 3 marines.
I now warped in a new pylon and 2 cannons at my ramp, and a new gateway in the far corner of my base. The medics retreated from my base into the valley below, running past my new cannons before they had come online. RealityCheck.. had started vulture production, and as his first one went flying across the map, it ran into a new squad of marines coming for me. Just as my 3rd cannon at the ramp was coming in, 3 dragoons(??) and another 12 marines attacked. My new cannon was canceled and I warped a replacement near my probes, in better position to protect them. My new zealot was just finishing as my cannon defense was cracked. They seemed to stall at the top of my ramp before entering my base. RealityCheck.., eager to help, straight on attacked the force sitting on the high ground. They killed the remaining goons but lost badly to the marine dues to the low ground disadvantage.
It turns out that when I left the enemy base to save myself, the 4 remaining marines were attacked by 2 fresh dragoons and a swarm of probes. I had no clue of this since I was giving my full attention to my own base. I had figured he was pretty helpless so the dragoon support showed he was still active in
the game.
The medics were laggin behind as the marines started to kill my buildings. This time he made sure to take my forge out. Luckily for me, they started attacking my cannon one by one as they came into range for the AI to see it. Another probe rush saved me again. My economy was still going full steam through all of this but I didn't have the production to hold off. I ran a probe out and started an expansion at the lower middle position. I started teching from this expansion immediately. I had saved up 1500 gas from not spending it on anything except a few goons at the beginning. Using the gateway hidden in my main, I built a cy core and forge. As my templar archives was coming in I built my first gateway in my new expansion. Another wave of M&M swept into my main, this time killing my cannons and nexus, I ran my probes away and managed to escape about 6 of em to behind my gate.
My first 2 DTs popped out, one killing 2 marines before being killed thanks to a quick comsat the other having to commute from my expansion, decided to wait for reinforcments before attacking since the base was already dead. As he discovered and killed my gateway, the probes managed to escape to my expansion as I built up an army of 7 DTs. I threw a few cannons up on my weak side since my partner had expanded to his natural which protected that side of my base. The DTs cleaned up the army that was sitting in my ex-main base. Mines that had been previously placed by my partner at the entrances to each of the enemy bases showed a probe expanding at Andor_drakon's natural.
He had obviously recovered from the early attack, and I was now getting worried because my base was finally getting up to production, and my partners expansion wasn't fully producing yet. The mines saw new M&M and goon forces coming out of the their respective bases. The mines were shot down without causing any damage but served a great scouting role. I made 2 high templar and researched storm and my gas reserve finally ran out. Mining gas at my expansion was slowed from the distance of the gas vent and also that I had to put my tech buildings in the probes normal walkway for lack of space reasons.
I sent my army of dark templar to the middle right expansion spot to try to intercept the enemy army before it could get set up to attack. They found about 10 goons waiting there, 3 of which died before the rest managed to escape. If I had thought of it sooner I would have put 2-3 of the DTs on hold position blocking the goons escape path across the bridge, killing them all, but I thought of it too late and used it to trap the goons that did die while their comrades escaped.
Figuring I had scared them away for awhile I sent my DTs back to my base to cover my new expansion back in my original starting position. A probe I sent to the middle left expansion spot, was blasted by cannons showing that Andor_drakon now had 2 expansions!! A comsat of the last expansion spot, and terrans natural showed that Killean still had not expanded at all. I knew we needed to stop this resource advantage Andor_drakon was gaining. I teched for a reaver drop, but he was ahead of me. A shuttle came cruising into my base, chased my high templar around for awhile, then finally set down by my probes, a quick storm and a dt ended this threat with a minimal loss of probes. About 1 minute later my own shuttle set out, looping past his cannons at the bridge and killed ½ - ¾ of the probes before goons ran in and caused me to pick back up and run away
RealityCheck.. has been upgrading his marines like mad, they were 3-2 by this point, teching to nukes, and expanding to the middle right position. He defended this with a bunker and 2-3 tanks and some marines while the rest stayed at his mineral only natural to defend from the bridge there. His tank numbers were fairly low, but we hadnt noticed any tanks from Killean either. A comsat showed Killean had finally expanded to his mineral only natural and was also going nukes with a nuke silo
on his new CC
I reinforced RealityCheck..'s middle right expansion with a high templar and used my original main base to get mass goons, with 3 gates here and a second in my main/expansion, bringing my total to 5. We now started to try to push into the terran expansion via the right side of the map. I supported with a few goons while he brought up his tanks and M&M. They tried to counter but were caught on the bridge, 2 storms from my templar managed to kill 22 units. Killean dropped 8 ghosts next to the tanks but only managed to lockdown 1 before they were all killed. Andor_drakon had been massing goons for awhile because the battle raged for a long time. The dragoons just kept coming in while I stormed when energy would allow and RealityCheck.. kept reinforcing the position as much as he could with more tanks and marines.
My dark templar had been sitting in the valley below my starting position, being the only defense for that base. Knowing Andor_drakon was busy trying to break our advance into his partners expansion(and being fairly successful) I ran my veteran DT force straight into his mineral only natural killing the 2 cannon defense there. I then took out his nexus and some of the gates he had here until more goons showed up and killed the DTs off.
RealityCheck..'s attack force was now killed off and his expansion defenseless except for a single bunker! My shuttle of wounded reavers from the earlier base raid, landed here and held off the incoming goons long enough for more reinforcements to arrive and get set up. The 2 reavers that had pussed out of the earlier fight had saved my partners expansion. He also nuked the very edge of his base. I started screaming for scan so the reavers could kill the ghost but he told me it was his. I then noticed his little ghost standing next to his CC aiming the nuke. I tried to run the reavers away but being slow as shit as they are, one was caught in the blast and died. Im not sure how much damage this nuke did to the attacking forces, but it cause him to retreat allowing the reinforcements more time to arrive.
I now sent a new shuttle of reavers to try to drop the middle left expansion again. It was blasted by goons without doing any real damage but did give us info on the position of their next attack. In that base was a large number of dragoons and a few ghosts. Being very worried, I told RealityCheck.. to save up some comsat and finally got an observatory. I made cannons in my valley and expanded to my mineral only natural. I brought my army of goons here too. My original expansion had run dry and my original main was going to soon. I was starting to thirst for resources from my dwindling econ and 5 gate goon production. It was about this time that we realized what a great game this was and decided to battle report it.
I tried to push into the middle left expansion with my
goons and take it for myself, but the cannons goons and ghosts easily kept me at bay with the aid of a few disruption webs. A squad of zealots now countered directly into my natural, destroying the cannons but being brought down by a few fresh DTs.
RealityCheck.. now came in and landed an uncontested nuke right on the cannons. I then immediately sent my goons across the bridge. The defending goons ran back to avoid the blast but the cannons were destroyed giving me enough time to run my own goons across the bridge before he could get his units back in a defensive position. I had the superior numbers and upgrades and razed the entire expansion. A couple storms and webs still weren't enough to stop me.
This was repeated at his mined out natural. My hyperactive partner had now gotten a high off his nuking success and left us with this interesting quote "COME ON BABY LIGHT MY FIRE!". The remaining buildings were killed but he had a decent defense at his choke. A couple cannons plus 2-3 bunkers. 2 Carriers also appeared from the cliff above. They were shot up by my goons and retreated. I dropped 4 reavers on top of the cliff to clear the defenses. He started shooting at them but got too close to the edge and RealityCheck.. locked em down Reavers > cannons/bunkers so the defense was broken and GG's exchanged by Andor_drakon and he then left.
RealityCheck.. was working on the terran natural while I had been working on Andor_drakon. A tank push plus the aid of my goons and a couple storms cracked the defense and we advanced into the valley. RealityCheck.. was determined to kill the main while I tried to tell him, why waste all those forces on that great task when he can kill his unguarded expansion in the top middle. He didn't listen to me so I proceeded to start killing it with 1 dragoon and 1 reaver. A drop of M&M out of 2 shuttles stopped this. Seeing how easy it was, RealityCheck.. Sent his marines in to finish it off.
This is about the time that Andor_drakon was being killed also. He left so my goons then moved over to help with the other guy. Killean had dug himself in real well with tanks lining the cliff edge and about 30 marines at the top of the ramp. I tried to storm the ramp with a templar but tanks killed it. Realitycheck.. then nuked. It killed many of the tanks and basically all of the marines. I used my speed-upgraded shuttles and dropped my 4 reavers from the attack on Andor_drakon into terrans, flying right past 2 turrets. These 4 reavers proceeded to chew up the interior of the base but were then all locked down. I then dropped 2 archons ( needed to find something to do with my templar) on the edge of the cliff which took out 2 bunkers that the nuked miseed. All the goons and marines then went up the ramp and the game was won. More GG's were exchanged and Killean left
