Report:
Since this is my first battle report, I choose an easy game - 4 ffa ladder! LOL! This is where the first lesson comes in - don't try your first battle report on a difficult game, especially when you suck like I do.
Anyway, I decide to go defensive to start; I am hoping in beat of any early rush with a pylon on 6 probe and a forge with 4 cannon, including one up top to ward off any pesky overlords. See fig. 1.
Next I am going for a full squad (12) of upgraded goons. Get gas, cyb. core, 2 gates. While cyb. core coming in I get 2 zelots to scout. I find all my opponents; all in corners and all terran. I see purple (:TheRock:) has a whole host of marines (at least 24) and a couple vultures. I have 12 goons already, so I figure 2 reaver and those goons should do a number on purple so I go for reavers. See fig. 2.
In the next minute, I get scanned at least 5 times. I figure, somebody must be attacking soon, if not more than one. This fear is based upon the fact that I have the worst luck in the double team category, and since I am Protoss, the Terrans may want me out of the way early. Thus, I give up on attacking purple, and build units and upgrade.
Now I am up to 90 units, and still no attack. A fair amount of chatter from the other guys saying how blue (vulture14) is really strong, blah blah blah, and how yellow looks like he can take him. Typical ploy I figure. So, I decide to expand below me. See fig. 3. I abandon all attack until only one other person is left; not only is taking notes slowing me down, but I am still convinced I will get attacked first. I also discover no one has expanded above or just to the right of me.
Purple falls (I later learn that blue took him out with BC's). Nukes start flying and I discover brown (Rightguard) has the middle base secure with goliaths and turrets. I get hightemps with psi storm. I figure to hit any fleet of BC's with 6 hightemps casting at once.
Now I am almost fully upgraded on units, total tech tree (except Arb. Trib. which is a mistake), and I have two expands, one in front and one to the right between me and brown. I have got 12 scouts with full upgrade of every kind.
Then I am reminded why I love to hate goons. I give them a simple task and they fuck it up! I send them over to my right expand, and not only to they stray too close to brown's middle expand, thus giving away my position, they get suck in a tiny out of the route crevasse!
I need to protect my right side expand so I bring the scouts over to the left side, goons (finally) up the middle and dark temps protecting the right ridge in case of tank drop.
Nuclear launch detected! I scan my bases - no little red dot. I scan my forces that do not have observers - no little red dot. I figure, its going at blue - WRONG!
Somehow, my 12 fully-upgraded scouts with attached observer didn't see the ghost. Whamo! Only 2 heavily damaged scouts left. As a wise man once said, "Doh!" Turns out, it was brown who hit me. I got some satisfaction killing the ghost that brought the nuke down on me.
Now I am really hurting, but the pain doesn't stop there. I try to rebuilt my airforce and brown polishes off blue. I learn latter that he stopped blue's mighty BC force of 12+ with ghosts, lock-down and 3 upgraded BC's.
Nuclear launch detected! This one really hurts. All 30+ of my probes are at my right base; I see the nuke beam. I try to move the probes, but they are stuck. I see the ghost, but my air is gone. Whamo! Bye Bye entire probe force! That hurts! See fig. 4.
Now it is all over but the screaming. Successive nukes pound me into submission. I have no forces for the last 3 minutes as Rightguard (brown) pummels me with nukes. The surrender screen says it all. See fig. 5.
Game Time: 1 Hour 20 minutes.
Lessons Learned:
[1] I suck.
[2] I suck worse when trying to do a battle report.
[3] No matter how many times I play, the first attacker always puts the odds in his favor - this is an offensive game.
[4] Lots of observers and spread out air are necessary for Protoss to stop a good nuke attack. Rightguard was nice enough to chat with me after the game. He had 4 expand's and 9 CC's. That's a shit load of nukes!
[5] Middle expansion on Ashrigo is very important.
Good Game Rightguard! Maybe next time.
Any comments on this report and/or my strategy are much appreciated.
| | Battle Shots! | 4 cannon defense to stop rush
My goons are ready, now I need reavers.
No one's attacked? Time to expand.
My entire probe force destroyed by a nuke from Rightguard!
 Post-nuclear holocaust!
