"hey I'm zerg I can just attack-move my swarm anywhere with no ill effects because of gay imbalance while terran has to micro its ass off to get anything decent to work." -::nobody::

Again I apologize for the lack of flare in this report. I am in the process of learning some techniques so hopefully you will not have to scroll through a pictureless, colorless report too much longer.
Without further ado I give you my report.
After you have made a few ignorant mistakes back to back you tend to straighten up in your chair, take a deep breath and tell yourself "I know how to face the zerg with protoss, all I need to do is just execute."
This is what I had to do. And this is what I told myself. And so when I joined a game pitting me against Zerglings4ever on the battlefield The Lost Temple I was happy to see him choose zerg. I randomed as usual and the fight was on.
As the screen went black as it always does right before the beginning of a game I found that my left index finger was hovering above the 'P' hotkey, ready to load another probe into the Nexus. Wishful thinking it was. I had just lost a battle to a zerg as protoss and I needed some redemption.
The battlefield unfolded before me, I had been given the 12:00 start and I was relieved to see that I was gazing down onto a great triangular nexus.
I pressed the 'P' key.
After my eighth probe had laid down the rift that would bring in my first gateway I sent it on a reconnaissance mission to find this 'Zerglings4ever'. As it made its way to the 3:00 position I kept a careful eye on my minimap, hoping to spot an overlord on its way to check the 12:00 where I had began. I passed beneath no unusual blips on the screen and so I knew that he had began somewhere across the map. My probe quickly turned and headed for the 6:00.
As my first gateway warped in I began summoning my first zealot from Auir. He was often the sole unit that secured the victory for me, not by defeating my enemy, but by disrupting their early plans and setting them behind me enough to overpower them shortly thereafter.
I was hoping he would do the same this time.
I began the rift for a second gateway beside the first and it was about this time that my probe discovered Zerglings4ever.
He was up to something I have never seen a zerg do before. He was morphing his second hatchery next to his mineral only expansion. He was going to attempt to establish his defenses there and secure his main plus two expansions behind his front lines. I had alot of meat to cut through before I could reach his heart. I would have to begin cutting early.
My first zealot had completed his warp from somewhere out in space and he stepped an armored hoof out onto the alien soil of this world. "My life for Auir" he said. A smile slid across my face. We shall see, warrior of Auir. We shall see...
No sooner had he arrived when I sent him out into the hostile environment around the temple, heading straight for the hatchery morphing before the small, robotic eyes of my scouting probe who was desperately attacking the leviathan structure with an almost harmless particle beam. The zealot was cutting a path through the thick, untamed growth of the steaming jungle with his deadly psionic blades as he made his way toward the hatchery to provide some heavy support for the tiny worker/attacker that was already there. His great, plated legs pushed him onward and he closed quickly with the conflict ahead while back at the protoss base more zealots were being teleported from home and additional pylons began to spring up around the nexus.
But before he could reach the scene of the conflict the probe came under attack by a pair of drones that had been dispatched to deal with the threat. It broke away from the hatchery and skated off toward the zealot that was just moments away from breaking out of the jungle and the drones gave chase.
The probe slid inbetween the trees and undergrowth as the drones tried desperately to close with it and tear it to pieces with their gnashing claws and teeth. They followed closely behind it, ducking and darting in the very wake of the probe and at last they could see that it had come to a stop beyond the patch of brush ahead of them. Its shiny plating moving behind there, shifting around quickly so it seemed and for a moment it looked as if the probe had turned around and began coming back their way. It must have assumed that the drones had given up the chase and now it would return to the sight of the hatchery and continue on its rampage.
They had it now.
But what came bursting through the vines and branches was not a probe at all, but a zealot that descended upon them like a banshee and now began to slice through their alien skin as if it were thin air, sending zerg blood high into the air and splattering it upon the armor of the protoss warrior. The drones began to attack, knowing that they would never escape the blades of the zealot. They could only hope to soften up its shields for their broods back at home who would most certainly have to deal with this very protoss soldier very soon and as the last drone collapsed lifeless to the jungle floor the zealot began moving again toward the hatchery with the tiny probe close behind.
But the zerg had been busy while the zealot had been held up by the drones, two sunken colonies were morphing at the expansion hatchery and the larva at the base of the repulsive structure had been cocooned and were now pulsating with the life of some other zerg creation that were safe within them.
The zealot and probe assault squad stopped long enough to slaughter the few drones that had gathered there before continuing on toward the main hatchery itself, hoping to bypass the early defenses and strike at the heart of the zerg before a sufficient defense could be mustered.
As the zealot and the probe reached the top of the ramp the hatchery there unfolded and they could see the creep extending from it, infesting the very soil around it. And they could see the minerals near it, with the working drones clinging to it, claws working to break off chunks of the rock to take back to the hatchery for processing. And they could see the zerglings too, galloping across the creep toward them. They braced themselves for the counterstrike and the zerglings closed with them, slinging claws at them from every direction. The probe and the zealot fought back furiously but it was futile and they knew that the numbers stacked against them were irrisistable. The probe exploded and the zealot was dragged to the ground where it would come to rest within a tomb of creep.
Back at the protoss base overlords were beginning to show up, lumbering over the cliffs and hovering above the nexus. They witnessed every move that I made. They were there when I bagan warping in my assimilator and they watched as my forge completed and the great wheel on it began spinning as the first weapons upgrade was researched.
The zealots were becoming quite a force by now, collecting at the choke of my ramp. They kept a vigilant watch as my cybernetics core appeared behind my lines and as soon as it had I summoned a dragoon to clear the skies above my base. Zerglings4ever had been paying attention and the overlords began to disperse, allowing us to see the sun once again. Toward the edge of the cliffs they floated, knowing that the burning energy blasts shot forth from the dragoons carapace was a painful thing to come into contact with. I knew that the lead overlord was getting too far away to be able to catch but I would try and as the first dragoon emerged from the gateway it immediately charged toward the hovering beast. The dragoon positioned itself directly beneath the overlord before it began firing so that it would not have to stop firing in order to move and then it opened fire, singeing the bulbous creature with bolt after bolt of raw energy. The overlord moved directly over the dragoon and out toward the water where the dragoon would be out of firing range. The last blast from the dragoon brought the creature down to four health and then it ceased fire. The natural regeneration of the zerg had saved their overlord.
Three cannons went down around my probes in case any mutalisk raids were on my opponents mind and I made my way quickly to templar, pausing only to make a leg enhancment upgrade for my zealots.
And then I expanded. A nexus went down at my natural as well as some reinforcing cannons and a freshly arriving templar hid himself back behind the nexus.
A zealot was sent to patrol both of the other starting positions where they patrolled back and forth from the main to the natural of each location.
As a zealot approached the 9:00 position a message notified me that my warriors had engaged the enemy. I tapped the spacebar and found that my zealot had come across an infant hatchery morphed beside the 9:00 mineral only protected by only four drones. He quickly set to work eradicating the menace and experience told me that there would be a zerg task force arriving on the scene shortly to route my attack. A control group of zealots left my base bound for the 9:00 with two templar following closely.
All of the drones had fallen and the hatchery itself came under attack when the zerg forces arrived. Pure zerglings came in droves and quickly tore the lone zealot apart before my forces could intervene but it wasnt long before my squad was in the hot zone with the templar standing back in the shadows. And when the zerglings were all dead and the second wave consisting of hydralisks arrived the templar came forth and unleashed their storms upon them, ceasing the zerg threat in this area and securing this sector for the protoss.
As this skirmish was taking place I had began a pylon at the ramp of the 3:00 position. As the probe made his way there he passed by two watchful overlords on the way, one over the 3:00 natural and one over the 3:00 main. Two dragoons were pispatched to both of these areas one right after the other and both overlords were destroyed before Zerglings4ever could respond. But he had seen the pylon and he knew what was happening. His forces came spilling up the ramp just as the first two cannons were warping in. They were able to tear them down before the cannons could do much damage but it softened them enough so that the patrolling zealot and overlord-killing dragoons could finish them off. A templar came in to provide support for the cannons at the choke and the rift for the nexus was begun.
But My opponent wasnt going to give me another expansion that easy. His next wave of troops were hydralisks and they slithered shoulder to shoulder up the ramp within range of the cannons. But they had not noticed the templar that had been brought in for such occasions. The air around the hydralisks became alive with lightning that descended upon them relentlessly and tore their minds to shreds. But still they came, even as the cannons unleashed barrages of singeing blasts on them they came. Until enough were grouped close enough and then another storm was cast over them. One last push and one last storm and the battle was over. Two cannons he had taken from me with many, many hydralisks to show for it.
The 3:00 position was mine and gateways began to appear in droves, as numerous it seemed as the zerglings he had slung against me. Zealots, dragoons and templar emerged from them. Three forges I had, each upgrading a different aspect of my warriors. Observers began to appear and make their way to the island expansions on the map.
I sent a probe to the 9:00 position to start another expansion there and on the way I discovered yet another hatchery at the top of the ramp. Zealots, dragoons and templar began moving out from my base.
As my forces made their way up the ramp, zealots first, they were attacked from the rear by reinforcing zerglings from Zerglings4evers main base. The dragoons would fall quickly to the zerglings and so I pulled my zealots back to provide support. The attack had cost me but my forces held and after the counterstrike had been thwarted they charged back up the ramp.
The zealots had been behind the dragoons now and as the walkers began attacking the hatchery we came under attack again by a second wave of attackers, this time zerglings and hydralisks. The zealots were there to meet the assault and as the templar began firing off their storms the zerg forces retreated back home with the zealots on their heels.
All the way back my zealots chased them while the dragoons finished off the 9:00 ramp hatchery. My zealots were led into an ambush of enemy troops and sunken colonies and so I pulled them back to wait for reinforcements while back at the 9:00 my dragoons continued on into the main to check for scouting overlords but instead came into the brutal range of several guardians there, the sole defense for a fully functioning expansion that Zerglings4ever had established.
Back at my 3:00 expansion six stargates were going down now. If this battle was going to the air then I had better be able to keep up.
It wasnt long before I had amassed twelve corsairs and as the last of them warped in I put my fleet on the '0' hotkey and sped off over the cliffs, bound for the 9:00 main.
As my fleet made its way toward the 9:00 I was bringing all of my ground forces down to muster in front of Zerglings4evers mineral only expansion. Zealots, dragoons and templar assembled there in preparation for an all out assault on the zerg.
As the corsairs began vaporizing the guardians at the 9:00 a small task force of zealots was sent in to deal with the few sunkens there and shut down the expansion and as the last of the guardians popped my corsairs struck deep into the zerg main to eradicate any stray overlords that they could find. A few token hydralisks tried desperately to chase the corsairs away but there were too many and the overlords that were stationed away from the frontline defenses were quickly brought down.
Simultaneously my templar were getting into position to begin storming everything they could. Zerglings, hydralisks, mutalisks and sunken colonies all awaited me. Closer I came and the entire zerg line suddenly lit up with the violent flash of the storms, my forces rushed in with an observer to spot the lurkers which were many but not enough and in that instant the battle was won for us. The creep colonies fell quickly and the spine of the zerg resistance was snapped. We charged in, following the footsteps of the first zealot who came so long ago with his probe counterpart and this time no amount of zerglings could hold us. We razed the hatchery to the ground and stood upon the creep as it receded, revealing the ground beneath once again. Blood dried upon us in the alien wind and we gazed out at the lost temple, wondering what secrets it could hold to make so many come here in order to battle over it.
This concludes my battlereport. |
