Not much was happening until the sound of smack could be heard echoing through the channels. A player by the name of Hydro-lick was talking serious trash about the resourceful terran fractions. Claiming that no terran could beat his fierce brood one on one. The answer to this challenge came from T-Force, a player who claimed to be a defended of all terran. The two exchanged numerous threats and insults to each others mama’s and decided to settle it once and for all. They elected to play on Lost Temple, much to my surprise.; )
I asked if they would mind if I watched and sweetened the deal by offering to do a BR for them. By the answer of “what’s a BR?”, I would assume that they were both newbies. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. After explaining the wonder that is a BR, they agreed to let me watch.
The game began with Hydro-lick’s hatchery popping up at three and T-Force’s center landing at nine. Each player immeadiatly ordered the building of peons and the game was on. Hydro used the extra drone trick for a quick expansion. Force built a barracks and was starting a very strange wall in. The barracks was placed way to far from the ramp and his depot was not build near the choke but back by his geyser. I was beginning to think that Force was not the great player he claimed to be. I checked over at Hydro to see he was using an age old tactic of…expansion whore. A little early for anyones taste and not such a wise choice. He had a hatch at his expansion and one at his mineral only. He had his pool just starting as Force got a bunker full of marines from two barracks. My only conclusion was that these two sucked.
Hydro finally got his pool and set up a total of eight sunkens. Four at each expansion and none in his main. He also made 12 zerglings but was concentrating more on peon and ovie production. He also began to harvest gas. Force on the other hand was climbing the tech tree and had already started collecting gas five minutes before Hydro had an extractor. Force had three barracks and two factories. Each had a shop and had researched siege and mines. He had a bay and have researched armor upgrades. An academy had just completed when I looked back at Hydro.
What I saw astonished me. He had a den, evo chamber and had two lairs, while working on a spire. He also expanded to the north island and was morphing a hatch. His was very bad for Force since he had no expansions up. Luck however smiled on Force and Hydro had reached his supply limit with only a small army. The rest were peons which he now began to morph into a queens nest and sunken/spore colonies.
Force also had a small army which surprised me. He had built two bunkers and his choke and had two vultures mine the front. Heb had tanks and a few wraiths but almost no impressive army on hand. I looked towards the back of his main and saw why. He had built four cc and was about to float them to several landing spots. This was a wise choice but he didn’t have an army to cover his cc’s. It was now fourty minutes into the game and not a shot had been fired.
For about ten to fifteen minutes only a few skimishes broke out. Hydro attempted a zergling rush which was really cover for lurker placement. Unfortunatly they wandered too close and were hit by siege tank fire. Two died and the remaining lurkers retreated. A small M+M combo attacked Hydro’s mineral only expansion but it was soundly killed by lurkers and sunkens. Another larger MMF combo of about twenty troops created a similar disastrous result.
Both players climbed the tech tree until Force had science facilities with both expansions, two armories for upgrades and three starports w/ towers. Hydro had two hives and a greater spire. Hydro sent his large squad of muti’s hunting and found a cc that had landed only five minutes before. He proceeded to lay watse to it and the poor scv’s aroud the burning base. Force did have a large wraith force but he did not deploy. I couldn’t believe it. What the hell is wrong with you I typed as loudly as I could. I was sure Force was destined to die. Hydro sucked but, but he did have four to three expansions and map control. In my blind haze of anger and disbelief I didn’t notice the slow lumbering blob heading for Hydros main. In amist of splatters and death a fleet of ten BC’s had joined the party. Yamoto guns blazed a hole in the poorly built defenses of three spores and ten hyras. Hydro also discovered that science vessels can in fact see buried lurkers and the entire lurker defense was gunned down. A small tank push soon followed and the zerg main was left a pool of draining creep. With that Hydro despratly mounted a weak offense with his remaining troops. All he had was a lurker and about twenty muti’s. The lurkers died to irraticate and the mutis fell to cloaked wraiths, BC’s and a few valkrytes.
Even with his army lost, Hydro still had three mining expansions. He tried to put up sunken and spore defenses but he did not have the funds. Why? Because he had spent all his money on upgrades for his non-existant army. The BC’s moved from one expansion to the next. With his last expansion surrounded Hydro graciously offered a gg…. Then disconnected like a prick.
Lessons learned:
1)Newbies suck…but they’ll learn
2)Disconnecters can suck a horses none exsitant left nut.
3)BC’s rule
