Hammer vs. Mad_Dogg
Part 2:Dire Straits

The second clash were over the tranquil waters of Dire Straits. This time both selected the benevolent....no wait...the grand...wait that isn’t it....the admirable...no that isn’t it....this is it....the NOBLE protoss onto the field of battle. Hammer warped in at the southeast island with Dogg warping in at the northeast island.
The two began the gathering of minerals and the increased production of everyone’s robotic pal. Each played a strange game from the beginning. Hammer warped in a pylon, gateway and a forge. Dogg warped in a pylon, gateway and then an assimilator followed by a second gate. Hammer then built three pylons spread across his island and then warped in cannons. Dogg got a core and began warping goons.
Hammer soon had a fair island defense of cannons, while Dogg had about ten goons patrolling his island. Hammer got gas and built his own core as Dogg was warping in a robotics facility. As soon as the robo facility was built Dogg began an observatory. Hammer elected to build a shuttle and used it to scout the northwest island. As the observatory was building, Dogg built a shuttle and a another facility. Hammer saw no main at the northwest and headed south. He also built a support bay and a citadel for an archives. Dogg’s observatory warped in and he quickly built two observers. He also built a citadel and a support bay. Around the twenty minute mark, Hammers shuttle discovers Dogg’s main but is blow out of the sky by an army of goons.
Dogg’s observers find Hammers main as well as a small budding expansion on the large island to the left of Hammer. Two shuttles are loaded with goons and reaver. The reaver has the max scarab and max damage upgrades and heads off to do major damage. Two more shuttles are loaded with probes, goons and a reaver. It heads off to the northwest main to build a Dogg expansion.
First blood is drawn when the shuttles arrive to the Hammer expansion. Two cannons guard the budding base and manage to shoot one shuttle out of the sky. Alas, the shuttle had dumped its cargo and the wrath of the reavers are felt by the pitiful cannons. The nexus soon follows as well as any probe surrounding the once mighty pyramid...I mean Nexus. : )
Meanwhile in Dogg country, an observer and three shuttles of goons and revears arrive to support the new expansion. Several cannons, a gateway and a robotics facility are soon warped in. At home, Dogg has a templar archive and researched storm. He also has two stargates and a fleet beacon ready to go. Hammer has also built the necessities for a might airforce with two stargates and a beacon. His plan is for scouts and corsairs. Will they be enough for carriers and goons?
Dogg has taken two more expansions at the forty minute mark with Hammer at a sound zero. What has he been doing all this time? Why he has been building up a great airforce. Total count = twenty scouts and ten corsairs each with 2/1/1 upgrades. Hammer moves his mighty air out onto the waters of Dire Straits and engages a small group of scouts. Slowly the scouts grow in number. Followed by carriers. A small air war ensues with Dogg’s scouts and carriers flying away as fast as possible. Hammer follows and foolishly heads right into a carefully laid trap. High templar release storm upon the poor scouts and corsairs. Corsairs try to web but are destroyed by storm and cannon. The air army retreats and it looks as if the day is won for the Dogg. The proud protoss commander looks over his troops and his two bases. Two? TWO? “Didn’t I just have four bases?”, Dogg types. Can you guess what happened? Yes that’s right. Hammer had instead played Dogg for a fool. While the two air forces collided, Hammer had raided Dogg’s expansions with reavers, templar and scouts. Hammer now controlled those islands and the resources of Hammer grew with each passing minute. Dogg was left to plan his next course of action, with only his main and northwest expansion intact.
The loss of the expansions need to be replaced and two new nexuses are built on two very small islands in between the southwest and southeast mains. Dogg also builds a mighty airforce of carriers and begins production of DT’s. Hammer is content to mine and build his forces up. He has selected a strategy of heavy air and reaver drops. Two more robotic facilities and two more stargates are erected.
Dogg strategy is unclear. He has increased observer production as well as DT production. Soon his observers cover the map and shuttles deliver DT’s to the unoccupied islands. Perhaps his plan is containment. Hammer is much more blunt as he loads two reavers into a shuttle and moves in towards Dogg’s main. The shuttles don’t get far as they are intercepted from behind by Dogg corsairs. The scouts that serve as an escort for the shuttles are busy with carriers and the shuttles explode dragging their cargo into the sea. The scouts meet a similar fate and a bullet has been dodged.
Dogg on the other hand is very confident as he loads some DT’s into two shuttles. He finds a clear path to Hammer’s main using his observers and deploys the DT just out of cannon range. The DT are maneuvered into the center of the base and begin slashing away. Sadly, no observers are near Hammer’s main and he must watch as he base is hacked away by an invisible foe. The observers arrive but it is much to late. The nexus, a stargate and Hammer’s only forge are gone in a wave of blue smoke and fire. The DT’s are sacrificed as they slash at any building with scout fire raining upon them. At this point the purpose of the DT strategy is revieled. At Hammer’s other two expansions DT’s in shuttles, under the cover of interceptors and scouts land on Hammers expansion and wreak havoc. His only two observers and his entire air force is dealing with the crisis at his main. The meager cannon and reaver defenses fall and the DT’s destroy every building on the islands. The air force of Hammer tries in vain to help but a stubborn group of Dogg loyal corsairs and scouts block their path. By the time the Hammer fleet arrives the only thing left are the razed remains. His only sources of income are gone and he has no nexus. The only thing he has are four probes, a large air force and enough minerals and buildings to support one expansion. On a gamble, he heads for a small island and begins to warp a nexus, pylons and cannons. His airforce is divided into two and he manages to hold on to his last expansion. The buildings warp in and the four probes go to mining. His gas supply runs out and he is forced to build an assimilator. Just as the assimilator warps in the horizon turns black from the armada of ships headed his way. He rallies his troops to his expansion and prepares for battle. The armada is still advancing but a red warning flashes in the corner of Hammer’s eye. His main is under attack. Reavers, archons and carriers oh my! The armada approaches just as the last Hammer building falls. Hammer only has his expansion. The odds are two to one for the opposition. His main is gone and his expansion is surrounded. He takes a deep breathe and types gg. As his last command he orders his ships to attack the armada. If he’s going down he’s taken them with him......NOT!
Hammer is owned like many have never seen. To say this was a battle would be generous. I would consider it a spanking. Hammers corsairs die immediately to super upgraded scouts and corsairs. Carriers crush the scouts in one fail swoop. The nexus is destroyed and the cannons are blasted back to Auir. The only building is a pylon and in a move so evil and funny, the pylon is killed by probes shuttled over from the Dogg main.

Your Winner
Mad_Dogg

Lessons learned:
1)DT’s and Scouts rule
2)Expansions are a must to win
3)Micro is very important in air combat
