Hostility Incorporated (HI!) brings to you...
Yet another Hostile~SCV Battlereport! (And other wonderful goodies)
Welcome, once again, to Assassins of the Day! We have had several
lead changes since last time. Believe me, the whole SC community is vigorously
trying to top Hostile~SCV's charts! (well, not really, I just need a little
more publicity) And today's top killers are...
#5:
(Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Cracklings....)
#4:
(That's what happens when you're left in the bunker too long)
#3:
(Submitted by Praetor-Galen)
#2:
(I love the smell of fresh Zerglin' Blood in the Morning)
And the #1 assassin of the week...
#1:
(This is actually from one of my games where I went
Archon/DTemp/Reaver/Corsair.... let's say the Reavers played a game called
OWNAGE)
Stick around for the next HI production and see if the tables
turn!
And now, on with the show.
Intro
Coming into nohunters, I see a bot spamming for a 16 man, 1-on-1
tournament about to happen. I was reluctant to check it out, seeing that
a few pretty skilled players were already leaving to attend. Regardless,
I wanted to test my skills and went off to channel Clan OS.
My first round opponent didn't show, so I was immediately put in the
quarter-finals. After being slaughtered by [nE]anderthal, my morale decreased
and I went to tkae care of other business. I come back later and I'm able
to watch the 2nd semi-final match, between {88}@Jamers and N.McNasty. Mcnasty's
Terran was on an ownage streak, using drops, map control, containment, virtually
everything. Jamers' Protoss forces eventually concede, thus setting up the
finals for this tournament.
As I return, I learn that Arky, who is actually LoKi-GoD
smurfing, will be NewbieMcNasty's opponent. The game is set up, and
away we go, off to another battle for....
The Lost Temple.
Arky selected Terran and lands his White Command Center at the 3 Main.
McNasty Randoms to Protoss and Warps in a Teal Nexus at 12.
Once again, the classic Terran vs. Protoss showdown. In my BR's, the
series currently stands at 1-1. Which race will break ahead?
Gas in the Morning
Arky goes for the standard
terran wall-in, Depot, Rax, Dep.... wait a second,
Arky. I think a Probe just warped in an Assimilator
on your Vespene Geyser! Ooh, that's going to hinder gas production for some
time.
McNasty starts with a
Pylon, the Offensive Gasser, Gateway, starts gassing his own main, another
pylon, then a core. I'm expecting some reaver tech from this nasty newbie.
Meanwhile, Arky has started his own gas, and
is making a CC behind his wall-in for a safe expansion to his natural. An
E-bay is also being made.
Arky catches
McNasty's build with an SCV, and throws down
a Bunker and a Turret next to his Refinery. Oddly enough, he doesn't put
any marines in the bunker, and could just be using it to throw
McNasty's possible drop off. Arky also goes
for double factories (once he accumulates the damn gas! hahaha).
McNasty, even after the SCV scouts him
out, continues with the Reaver tech. He throws down a facility, immediately
starts a shuttle, then follows with a bay. Once he gets the reaver, he loads
it in the shuttle, along with 2 zealots.
McNasty first makes an
attack up the mouth of Arky's base with 3 Dragoons. A bunker full of marines
is there to defend, and it does just that. McNasty pulls his Dragoons back
for a later attack.
The Shuttle starts a trek over to Arky's
mineral line. All of a sudden, the Shuttle takes a sharp turn west, heading
for the mouth of Arky's base. Obviously, McNasty
saw the Turret and [empty] Bunker, so he went on an alternate
route. This frontal reaver drop keeps Arky
held back for a while, as it destroys a bunker and several marines. Eventually,
a siege tank ruptures the slug from the cliff above. During this time,
Arky constructs a Command Center in his natural
to fly to the bottom-left island.
A Time for Tech....
Arky throws up a couple
bunkers at his choke for confusion, then does a bunch of tech all at once.
He makes double armories, a starport, then an academy. Meanwhile,
McNasty has teched to an Observatory, and makes
an attempt at expanding to the main at 9, along with his 12 natural. Soon
after, he starts warping in 2 stargates. Before I can check out anything
else, McNasty also starts ANOTHER nexus at the 9 o clock natural! On top
of that, a Fleet Beacon comes in once the first stargate finishes. When
the nexus at 9 is halfway done, he Maynards some probes to gather resources
there.
"My drops are better than yours, so
=P"
McNasty's mind seems to
be completely set on expansions- how many does he have, how many should he
allow Arky to have. He shuttles up a pair of
reavers and flies them over to the Southeast island. The reavers kill all
the SCV's and land a pair of shots on the Command Center.
Arky lifts the CC, and
McNasty flies his reavers away. Arky has
also found McNasty's expansions at the 9 o Clock expansions with a Scouting
SCV.
Arky wants to do a little
expansion-rape of his own. He loads up 2 Tanks and 8 Goliaths, and lands
them over on the cliff above McNasty's natural. A few zealots residing up
there are dispatched instantaneously, and then the infamous Cliff Siege initiates
on the natural. McNasty quickly responds by
dropping 2 reavers next to the tanks. Arky's
tanks are easily disposed, but the Goliaths manage to escape to the dropships.
A Wraith comes over to deal some damage, and manages to destroy the shuttle
while reavers are inside it.
Arky drops another pair
of tanks to replace the first two, and they start doing some damage as well.
A pair of carriers come over to remove the tanks, but are pushed away by
goliaths! As the carriers take damage, they retreat to a well-placed shield
battery at the natural, and then go back to attack some more. The Goliaths
force the carriers to retreat for good, and the natural completely
falls.
Keeping himself on the offensive side, Arky
starts an attack on the 9 o clock expansions with some Tanks and Goliaths.
The force is caught by about 10 dragoons in the center of the map, but have
no trouble in advancing forward with moderate casualties. Once
Arky arrives at
McNasty's expansions, he is held back with more
goons & zealots.
Arky sneaks a dropship
into the 9 o clock main and drops off a Tank & 2 vultures. Spider
mines are placed through the base, and the tank chalks up a bunch of kills
on the probes. A Spider Mine placed close to the tank ends up triggering,
causing the tank to go down.
Goodyear: I love what you do for
me
(We thought of the saying before Toyota, Damnit)
Another CC is being constructed within
Arky's main, and I'm assuming this one will
land down at his Mineral-only. Once it lands down and some SCV's are Maynarded
over, McNasty attacks with about 7 carriers.
Goliaths and Turrets appear to be enough to defend the main, along with a
well-fired EMP Shockwave. The carriers retreat to the shield battery.
Unfortunately, the battery has been used too much and is low on power. The
head carrier pilot contacts Praetor
McNasty.
Allanor: Praetor McNasty, the Carrier fleet seems to be low on
shields! We need to set up some batteries immediately so we have extended
longetivity!
McNasty: ...................
Allanor: Praetor McNasty, please give us your orders!
McNasty: Go, go, go!
Allanor: Affirmative! All carriers, attack at will!
::Allanor closes the transmission::
McNasty: ::Pushes hamster with carrot:: Go, go, go! Dangit,
you little bastard, GO!!!
The carriers mis-interpret the Praetor's "order" and return to attack.
Unfortunately, Arky was expecting this 2nd wave,
and has his Goliaths all in position. EMP is fired again, eliminating what
little shield points are remaining. The Carriers are completely owned by
the Hellfire missles.
McNasty, even with these massive losses,
continues the assault. He sends a couple Carriers, Goons and Zealots
over to Arky's now-flourishing Mineral-Only.
His forces are enough to put the CC into the red, but the Terran commanders
manage to lift off and pull it back into the main base.
Arky's reinforcements arrive to eliminate
the Protoss attack force. A few SCV's attend to the Command Center,
making it good as new once again.
The Triumphant Mechs
Along with this, there are random skirmishes happening all over the
border, with Nike zealots running around like chickens with their heads cut
off. They seem to be killing any scouting units coming by.
McNasty is going for an expansion at the
Main at 6, while Arky goes for the mineral-only
at 6. Soon after, Arky tries to get off
the defensive side, and takes nearly 20 goliaths to the 9 o clock bases once
again. He torments a nexus about to warp in at the mineral-only, then razes
the natural. But here comes a retaliation...
McNasty attacks once again
with a nice fleet of carriers! There aren't many Goliaths left at the home
base to fend off the blimps, and it appears that McNasty
may be turning the tide of this war. However, the Goliaths at the
9 o clock natural finally make their way back to the other side of the map,
and shoot down the carriers one-by-one just in time. Thank god for
the semi-fast speed of Goliaths.
And that's the ballgame..
Once McNasty loses his fleet, it's all over. Arky sends troops
into the 9 o Clock expansions, and razes a nexus left idle at the 6 o Clock
main. The 3/3 Goliaths march straight into the main base and begin their
destruction on the Stargates. McNasty concedes the game, making Arky the
champion.

Both players did a great job playing throughout this whole tournament,
but only one is able to pull out the win.
Tournament Champion- Arky, AKA LoKi-GoD

Lessons
1. When Goliaths outnumber Carriers by at least 3 to 1, and your opponent
has EMP shockwave at his arsenal, it's wise to change your strategy.
Unfortunately, McNasty put his hard-earned minerals into the huge carrier
fleets and didn't have a sufficient amount to go with another full
strategy.
2. Honestly, I think that this game was all upgrades. By the time
of that last attack by McNasty, Arky's Goliaths were 3/3/3. McNasty's Carriers
were 1/0/1. The Carriers would only deal 24 damage to their targets, while
each goliath did full damage to shields and 22 damage to Carriers.
3. Nice job with the offensive gas trick. It is quite an annoying
thing in the early game stages.
4. If McNasty knew that the Bunker in the mineral line was empty when
making that Reaver Drop, this could have been a completely different game.
Too bad you can't see inside Bunkers.
5. God, AOLPress is like an HTML Cheat or something... I don't have
to put any pain into learning massive loads of HTML shiznit.
And finally, here's a special feature that will be hosted by me and
Kane- (who is now Nuclear~SCV) from here
on out, Before and After! We've experimented with Dark Archons/BC's and have
devised an awesome strategy which involves Mind Controlling 80 Battlecruisers
in a 2v2. Unfortunately, I got a little carried away with my... "Nuclear
Power."
