Game One Of 2v2 Finals Featuring Team 18nom~ vs NewbieMsNasty and
~SilverSeraph
It was your typical Sunday
night on bent. Nothing special going on. Trying to get games with afk peeps in
Nohunters, and forced to go and browse through the pubbie list. Then I get a
whisper from Mr.Tourney asking if I would like to BR some good games. WELL SURE,
MISTAR TOURNEY, WHY THE HELL NOT! ..ehem, so I join him in channel tourney with lots
of other peeps. Obviously some TOURNEY been going on all day that I was unaware
of. Luckily, I made it in time for the best of 3 Finals.
It was a 2v2 tourney, and in the finals it
was going to be NewbieMcNasty and ~SilverSeraph vs 18nom~Prays and 18nom~TicoTaco. It was a best of 3 finals match, with the
first match taking place on Dire Straights.
~SilverSeraph Protoss
and
NewbieMcNasty Protoss
vs
18nom~TicoTaco Zerg
and
18nom~Prays Protoss
The players
immediately start on their builds. Newbie does Pylon,
Gate, Core, Pylon. His partner, Seraph,
does Pylon, Gas, Gate, Core. Prays goes Pylon, Gas, Gate, Core as well. And Taco does
Hatch, Gas, Pool. The Protoss team soon takes different strats to have more variety of
attacks. Newbie throws down a stargate, while Seraph puts down a Robotics Bay, for popular Reaver dropping. In fear of
early sairs, Taco quickly builds and Evolution Chamber and
HydraDen. However, Prays is getting sairs himself, but not until after his
Robo Bay and Robo Facility. Sure enough, Newbie shows up with
some early sairs, but they are dealt with easy by a single Spore Colony. Now both Newbie, and his partner have a pair of sairs patrolling the map, to make sure that
neither of their opponents are able to expand early and outproduce them. The sairs
will find nothing for awhile, because, before long, the first 2 of Pray's Reavers land in Newbie's
minerals, and take out a few probes
before they are evacuated away from the Scarab throwing fagots.

While Newbie quickly gets back on track with his probes, Prays doesn't
have much time to get back on his track. Because right behind his drop, is a drop
from Seraph. Almost perfectly dropped just far enough behind his
mineral line. Before Prays gets a chance to move them, his probes take a
bad beating by the reavers, and he loses about 8 of them. He also drops a couple of
Goons, incase the Reavers are threatened by any kind of air. Possibly Mutalisks from
Taco. However, the goons aren't needed. Because Pray has a Reaver of his own, that gets a 1 shot advantage and just barely
holds off the threat. Not without the loss of about 10 Probes and a Pylon, though.
The confrontation is ended with Corsairs chasing and killing the Shuttle out of his
main. Then, both Newbie, and Seraph, take all the
Sairs they have, and go do some ovie hunting. They knock out a couple, then notice Taco attempting to expand to the expansion to the upper right of his main.
Fearing that the Protoss will
soon drop his new, and much needed expansion, Taco makes the first
move. He quickly loads up about 12 hydras and heads for Newbie's main.
On his way in, however, 2 of the Ovies were shot out of the air by Goons. The
remaining Hydras, h however
get only a few shots in on the Probes, and the Goons that shot down the Ovies, go right
for the Hydras, taking them out with no problem. Had the lings made it in, things
might have gone a little different.

So now, after numerous failed
drops, the players start to take a different approach. With teching in mind, Seraph takes the island to the bottom right of him. Taco successfully got the exp to the top right of his main, as was mentioned
before. Immediately, all players do what they can to stop the expansions. But
the defenses on each of them was too much to drop on. So in the heat of this
expansion killing frenzy, Seraph throws another Reaver at Pray's main,
only from a different direction. I guess he was off busy killing an expansion or
something, because he didn't notice the Reavers until they had killed ALL his probes.
He quickly rounded up his remaining 2 Reavers and took out the lone intruding one.

And the Reaver harassment
would continue. As soon as Prays
got his Probes back, and was mining
away...another pair of Reavers come in behind his mineral line, taking out most of the Probes once again.
In fear that he would soon lose his main, he quickly expands to the island southwest of
his main. Slyly, he asks if Seraph
will leave his tech buildings.
Well, it wasn't as if he was going to..but finally, Taco shows up with
some Hydras, and gets rid of the reavers. Now things are looking a bit IFFY.
While Seraph is doing very well with his drops, his production
is a little slow, and he could be doing a lot more expanding. Prays, at this point, is struggling to stay alive, while Newbie's main is getting owned by frequent Hydra drops. This leaves Taco, who is obviously massing Hydras and dropping them all over the place.
He is, at this point, probably the biggest fear in the game, as he has almost
completely wiped out Newbie's main.

\
So now, things look bad for
both teams. Newbie is just about out of the picture, but Prays also has a small lack of a base. So Seraph focuses
on whats important: Killing Prays
before he has a chance to come back
strong. He tries many times dropping Reavers and Goons on him, but Taco is always there to save the day wit ha few Hydras and Lurkers. Taco also took this time to grab the island directly north of his base.
This is quickly spotted by Seraph's observers, but he isnt able to take it out, since
such a quick defense had been brought up. And since Prays was
getting a chance to get back on his feet, things were looking real good for team
18nom~....until...

After the good old 30 second
timer went down, it was obvious that Prays
was gona have to be dropped. Now
things had changed drastically. Seraph
focused strictly on going for Taco, since he was the only one left. But small reaver drops couldn't
compete with the mass number of Hydras. But with superior Protoss teching, he would
hope to get the upper hand on the Zerg. Newbie's only role at
this point was to use the last Goons/Zealots/Sairs that he had left to do whatever they
could. His Nexus had gone down, and he couldn't afford to make a new one. This
had turned into a 1v1.
Taco was pissed. He couldn't stand that, since
things were getting good, his partner had dropped. So he said screw this, and loaded
up ALL his hydras. He was going for broke. And vs a Protoss with potential psi
storm, it was indeed a risky move. He loaded about a total of 8-10 Ovies, and headed
first for Seraphs expansion, which was guarded with nothing more than
about 4 cannons. Needless to say, it was taken down easily.

He was now, undoubtedly
heading for the Protoss main, which would, no doubt, be guarded with Temps, Cannons,
Goons, Reavers, ect...everything the Protoss had. But it was obvious to Seraph that Taco was using all his Hydras, and was going to try a
suprise drop on the Zerg main. However, he Shuttle had ran past a newly started Zerg
expansion north of Taco's main. So with a few more hydras whipped up,
the Shuttle was taken out. But, perhaps Seraph had spent too
much time worrying about the drop, because in the meantime, the Ovies had moved in to his
base, and were tearing up everythign in sight. Few storms were cast, and few Reavers
fired. This was the end for Seraph
and Newbie. GGs
were exchanged by all, as they eagerly awaited game 2.
