Welcome the the 2nd ever Testosterone battlereport
Welcome
the the 2nd ever Testosterone battlereport, you can find my first one here.
NewbieMcnasty came into nohunters and asked if there are any
"good" battlereporters to report the finals of one of his 16
man 1v1 tournements. After a good amount of silence I volunteered
my services because I was thinking about doing another BR and this would
be a good opportunity to do just that. Without further
adieu....
The first game was commenced on the map "The Lost Temple." I
will refrain from making the obvious comment about how overplayed this
map is. I join the game Mcnasty made to find everyone ready, and
the countdown begins. Both players choose their race as [STiM]Pylon
decides to go with zerg as Mantra!
goes with protoss. The
starting builds are pretty common for a ZvP matchup, with Pylon
going 9 drone and 9
overlord followed up by the extractor trick, which gets him 10 drones
while the overlord is building. At 12 drones he starts and expand
at his natural. Mantra!
doesn't do anything risky, building a pylon on 8 and
a gateway on 10 followed by another pylon and gateway.
Mantra!
had sent a probe out scouting counter-clockwise, so it came upon Pylon's
base before any of Pylon's
overlords had found Mantra!'s
base. This little probe saw that the zerg had expanded and a pool
was being built, while about 13 drones were mining. As the probe
is looking inside the base, Pylon
builds another hatch at his expansion. At about the same time Mantra!
starts up on gas at home. Soon 4 lings are
hatched as they clear the probe out and go guard the front of the
expansion. Pylon
then builds a creep colony behind his first 2 hatcheries. This is
always a good place as if he were rushed I imagine he would bring some
drones and lings to surround the sunken effectivley blocking it off and
creating havoc in the zealots
pathing.
Pylon
only produced 4 lings, and that is it. While Mantra!
builds up on zealots as he gets a cybernetics core. Pylon
adds another hatchery in his main and then puts another hatchery between
his natural and mineral only natural, he also starts mining gas from his
main. When he gets 7 zealots Mantra!
decided it was time to attack and takes his zealots and a probes
and heads out. Right when Mantra!
leaves Pylon
only has 4 lings and 2 creep colonies, but he also has an overlord over
the zealots before they leave.
Pylon
immediatley morphs his two existing creep colonies into sunkens and
starts two more creep colonies. He only built two more
lings bringing his total to 6. At this point Pylon
was more concerned about using every available larvae for building
drones instead of using them for lings. Just as Mantra!'s
force arrives a 3rd sunken is done with the 4th close behind. Mantra!
charges in as Pylon
pulls a handful of drones off mining duty to help thwart the protoss
invaders. In a good move Pylon
uses 2 of his lings distract 2 of Mantra!'s
zealots in the back, allowing Pylon
to only take on 5 zealots at a time instead of 7. After one of the
zealots is killed, his brethren retreat back to home. Right before
he attacked Mantra!
started up a Citadel of Adun at home, his choice of tech this game:
templar. He also used his newly made goons to snag a gigantic
magically flying space slug, also known as an overlord. The first
lull in the action came about the game as both players built up their
forces for the clashes that were sure to come. Pylon
built a hydra den and an evolution chamber at home, will expanding to
12's "hidden mineraly only" while upgrading to a liar at
home. Another quirky thing he did was mine his mineral only with
that hatchery that was in between his natural and mineral only
natural. He had quite a good amount of drones on this. At
first I thought to myself "what the hell is he doing" when I
began to think about it. Only so many drones can mine at a given
time, he made so many drones that he just went ahead and sent that to
work at his mineral only rather than just sitting and waiting to
collect minerals from his main or his natural (I think). Mantra!
had gotten temps and storm and expanded to his natural about 1 minute
after Pylon
took 12's mineral only.
Pylon
decided it was time to turn on the macro as he saves up larvae from his
5 hatheries and builds hydra/ling. He was able to build a constant
flow of units due to his huge economy. He put his first group of
hydras and lings outside of Mantra!'s
base while taking the 12 o'clock main. Mantra!
only sees about one control group of zerg units outside his base so he
takes his 4 zealots, 6 dragoons, and 2 temps and pushes his way through
to the middle of the map as Pylon
retreats his forces to 12's mineral only. Pylon
has been building up his forces this whole time and sends about 12
hydras down to the 6 o'clock mineral only. As soon as they get
there he brings another 15 or so hydras from his main and then commences
an attack on the middle, bringing down his original hydras from 12 and
bringing up his hydras from 6.
This 3-sided attack would of hurt Mantra!
severley had he not pulled his troops back at the very last
second. Pylon,
seeing that the advantage is his, tries to push into Mantra!'s
base. A good amount of storm stopped the hydra push, but it also
boxed Mantra! back
into his base. During the battle he had tried to expand to the 12
o'clock natural but hydras stopped the attempt.
Pylon
uses his recent victory and expands to the 6 o'clock mineral only and to
the 12 o'clock natural while adding 3 more hatcheries at 12. Mantra!
quicky builds up a force of 13 dragoons and 4 templar from his 5
gateways and decided he has to stop Pylon
quick before he totally engulfs the map and him. He pushes out and
up, heading towards 12 o'clock. Mantra!
does alright in the beggining, getting off some good storms, but is
quickly run over by the hordes of zerg units. He tries to retreat
but only to find that his main and natural are getting attacked by more
hydras. Seeing that he is vastly outresourced and outnumbered Mantra!
concedes game one.
