I did not plan on writing this game up, and even if I did, I have no clue as how to post pictures up. Enjoy!
I wanna tell ya a story about an interesting game of Brood War I played today. I had been up all day sitting at the computer playing games with all my friends. I had been playin under my ~ZC~K@O$ name all day and had lots of games with ~ZC~Gopher and ~ZC~Yuppy. But that’s not the point of the story. After playin all these serious games, I
wanted to just get some easy 1v1 Vs peeps I didn’t know. So I changed accounts to my VirginityThief name and created a 1v1 at Temple.
Now one reason I like this name is cause of the response I get from people to it. It’s always fun when people join my game and “lol” right away. Then there is always someone who says “So you’re the cherry popper?” and things of that sort. It’s very amusing, and the person who joined this game was one of the many that gave a warm
response to the name.
I saw the yellow flash telling me that King~Xs had joined the game. It told me his stats were 429-144-66 with a 6-0-0 ladder record rated at 1116. I was happy to see that this had the probability of being a tough game, it’s much more fun to be challenged. Little did I know that there would not be much of a challenge here at all.
His first words were “hehe nice name” or something of those sorts. I thanked him. He then asked me whether I raced. I responded telling him that I did sometimes, and then he told me to pick his race for him. Now I have to admit, at this point I was getting kind of scared that he would ruin my night by completely owning me. The confidence and record got to me and made me a bit nervous. So I took some time to think which would be the best race for him to be. I decided I would random and he should go with Protoss. I figured that my Terran Vs Protoss is pretty strong, my Zerg Vs Protoss is very strong, and Protoss Vs Protoss who knows.
So he picks Protoss, I go random, and the game begins. I am very happy to see that I started at the 3’oclock spot with Zerg! Knowing he is Protoss I plan to do my favorite 4 hatch hydra build that was taught to me by ~ZC~Gopher. I build up with an overlord on 8, hatchery at bottom of my ramp on 12, pool on 12, and a hatchery at my
natural on 13.
Before I get the first hatchery down though, King scouts me with a probe and says “Why did you want me to pick Protoss?”. It seemed that he was very sure of his PvZ and did not think I even had a chance. I planned to prove him wrong. He then pulled some harassment with his probe and followed my drone to where it was going to build a
hatchery. Seeing his little plan of keeping my drone from building the hatchery by attacking it, I sent another drone down and built the hatch while distracting the probe with
the first drone.
Now I was expecting a zealot rush to come soon after this but it never did. So I sent a ling to scout and found him at 6’oclock. From what I can guess King’s build went something like this: Pylon, 2 gates, pylon, rally zealots to ramp, gas, cyb, citadel. When I
scouted him with my ling he had 4 or 5 zealots holding at the top of his ramp. I guessed he might be rushing corsair so I built an evolution chamber. But seeing he was staying put I pumped pure drones out of my 3 hatcheries, and started collecting gas. I put a ling in front of his base to see if he would be coming. Once my overlord got into his base I found a cyb just finishing and a citadel put down right after that. I put down a 4th hatchery, and
kept building drones. Then my ling saw he was moving his zealots to my base, so I put down 3 more sunkens very quickly, and built more lings. He parked around 12 zealots
outside my base, so I tried to draw him into my line of sunkens.
I guessed that by now he was expanding and was getting templar soon. I had just finished getting my hydra den up and started pumping pure hydra out of my 4 hatches.
Money was coming in great and I upgraded a lair and hydra speed. As soon as I had 2 control groups of hydra I attacked his 18+ speed upgraded zealots in front of my base. Seeing he would lose he ran them back to his Templar which were on their way from his
base.
Now this right here is why I think everyone is going for cannon/templar these days. Zealots and Templar just don’t work Vs good Zerg players anymore. With bating the zealots into the storm, and dancing hydras, the zealots/templar strategy is destroyed. All it takes is some good micro from the Zerg to beat that strategy. And that’s what happened here.
I ran towards his natural and dodged storms, picked off templar, baited zealots, the works. Once the templar ran out of energy I started killing his remaining zealots easily, till I noticed a little wavy figure on my screen. The pesky little Dark Templar. So I took my
remaining hydras and targeted his nexus. I took it down with about 6 hydra left and ran them back to meet with the rest I had been building. During the battle I had started
research on overlord speed, and had sent 2 drones to take 12’oclock and 12’s natural. Once I had 3 control groups of hydras built back up, the +2 armor upgrade, and overlord
speed had researched. I went back for a final battle.
Storms crackled again, and zealots were tricked into running into them. Slip ups on my part left a couple hydra standing idly under some storms, but having my hatcheries hotkeyed made it easy to keep production up at home and a steady flow of hydras comming. The first wave fell to storms/zealots, but the second wave broke through
completely. I targeted the nexus again, just in case I didn’t finish him this time. But he had nothing to hit me with, and every templar that came out to storm was targeted before it could get the storm off.
This is when King~Xs showed how an egotistical newbie takes a loss. He accused me of hacking. Now this made me laugh very hard, and I did what I always do when
accused of hacking. I told him how I don’t hack! But of course he did not believe me. I told him how zealots/templar are weak Vs Zerg, but he didn’t listen. It was actually quite sad, and he left very mad and accusing me of hacking. But after thinking about it I was fine with his accusation. It is more a compliment. I owned him so badly that he assumed I hacked! And he is the one who came in so cocky as to ask me to pick his race!
And that was my story for the day. I hope it entertained you, enthralled you, and made you cry. Or at least it wasted some time. And remember that because you lose to someone it does not mean they hack. Learn from your loses. See what they did, and next time you are in a matchup, apply what you lost to so you can win. Good day and good games!
Peace
