First, the standard warning for all you non-cable users out there... The Flash movie above is pretty huge, you'll have to wait a HELLUVA long time to watch it if you are going for it over a standard phoneline. Thank you, and have a nice day. Note: If you weren't paying attention when it started, or feel like watching it again, just right-click on it and select "Play."

The Beginning

This game started with [n]juBBle spamming for a 2v2 game in NoHunters. As we all know, people actually PLAYING in NoHunters is about as rare as a new YRM battlereport, so JuBBle was left frustrated for some time, until he finally found enough people for a 2v2 (divine intervention? But JuBBle never struck me as the religious type...) This ended up being the well-know Basic, and the somewhat less well-known Poltergeist_001 and PeonStar;D. After some bickering, a game finally got started, and after some more bickering over the teams, juBBle finally solved the problem by saying "TvB me and Basic vs. gl hf starting." Without such decisive leadership, we'd probably still be arguing...

The Map

Tried, tested and true: Lost Temple
Yes, everybody's favorite, Molten Playground. Actually no, it was really Lost Temple. Basic was Protoss at the 3' position, and his partner [n]JuBBle was also Protoss at the 9' position. Poltergeist_001 was a Zerg at 12' and PeonStar;D was Terran at 6'.

The game began ordinarily enough, but oddly, neither of the teams decided to rush. Basic and JuBBle both decided to go with Reaver tech, while PeonStar teched up quickly to tanks after walling off his choke and Poltergeist looked to be heading up towards mutas, and took his natural early on. JuBBle's early defense consisted of 5-6 Zealots blocking off his ramp, with a few cannons thrown in to help protect him while he teched. Basic was much more ballsy, making only a single gateway and 2 zealots before heading straight up the tech tree to reavers. He was either (a)Very confident in his ability to micro his 2 zealots to hold off an early rush or (b)felt like doing something crazy. I'll leave that for you to decide...

The First Blow

The first attack of the game came from PeonStar. He sent up an invasion force of 4 Marines, 3 SCVs, and began preparing for a tank push while the tanks were still building in his Factories. He set up camp outside Basic's base, pinning him in with a Tank/Bunker/Turret combo. Basic's choke was guarded by 2 cannons and a reaver, with some miscellaneous zealots thrown in. However, instead of trying to blast his way in the front entrance, PeonStar decided to go for a backdoor strategy. He sent up a dropship with 4 vultures to go say Hello to Basic's probe line.

Wow, I never knew those things were good against workers!
The marauding Vultures manage to destory 5 or 6 probes before the cops came in, in the form of a reaver in a shuttle and two dragoons. The Vultures race back and hop back into the dropship, altough losing one of their number to a well-placed scarab. This proves more an annoyance than anything else, slowing down Basic's economy but not dealing very significant damage to his unit production capabilities.

I'm just sorry I forgot to take a screenshot of their kill counts...
Basic decides that backdoor attacks might be fun, so he loads up two reavers in a shuttle and sends them over to wreak havoc upon Poltergeist's base. First stop: Zerg natural. After killing EVERY LAST DRONE, the reavers hop back in the shuttle and head towards Poltergeist's main, looking for a repeat performance. What makes this doubly dangerous is because of the speed of his teching, Poltergeist has almost no troops with which to defend his base. However, two well-placed sunken colonies cover the entire mineral line, and Basic is forced to content himself with pounding on outlying buildings. These reavers keep up their dastardly work until finally Poltergeist pours enough hydras on them that they eventually succumb.

PeonStar;D decides to try to pull his vulture drop on JuBBle now. No sooner had this force landed however, when PeonStar was distracted by a new threat down at his main base... A shuttle with 2 reavers of JuBBle's was dropped on his peon line! PeonStar had been funneling every last unit he had into his containment up at Basic's base, and had nothing that could respond in time except for a lone Wraith. It tried valiantly to destroy the Reavers before they could do too much damage, but failed utterly. The Reavers destroyed most of PeonStar's peon line, and forced him to lift off his Command Center before the Reavers were finally destroyed by newly Produced Tanks from the nearby Factories.
I'll bet that smarts.

Heating Things Up

Thinking that perhaps PeonStar would have withdrawn his containment to deal with the reavers, Basic attempts to break out with 4 goons and 2 zealots, but finding the containment still fully intact, he behaves as any noble warrior would and runs like hell.

Poltergeist has been quietly massing mutalisks this whole time, and decides to take them on a test run into Basic's probe line. The 12-15 mutalisks rip through the two defending cannons and start laying waste to probes and nearby structures. At the same time, PeonStar stepped up his offensive at the bottom of Basic's ramp, and used a Tank+Flying Engineering Bay to knock down the high-ground cannons, and then advances up the ramp to begin destroying Basic's base. However, reinforcements were on the way from JuBBle. His dragoons begin tearing into the mutalisks and terran forces, and manage to save Basic's base. For now.
In my undying quest to piss off all the people who don't have high-speed internet...

Basic was thirsting for revenge, and convinced his partner to "go kill zerg first." The gigantic combined army of two Protoss-with-PMS marches in and starts laying waste to all in their path. Poltergeist loses his natural in very short order, and the dragoons, reavers, and zealots head up the ramp to begin on his main. Will his army of Mutaling be enough to hold off the onslaught? Hell no. Despite his best efforts, Poltergeist's forces are swarmed under by the toss, although he is able to escape with 5-6 drones and set up camp inside his partner, PeonStar's base.
Still working over that hamster.

With that victory under his belt, JuBBle decides to head on towards PeonStar. He, however, proves to be a much harder nut to crack. He had tanks up on his cliff, bunkers, and just about everything possilbe to make it a real pain in the ass to attack. The dragoons manage to make it through the low-ground bunker and tanks, but the high-ground ones, with SCVs stalling the invaders, prove to be too much.
...And now back to black.

Building Up

Touchy, eh?
At this point, all players take a moment and start to build back up. Basic and JuBBle start to expand all over the map, splitting up the expansions amongst themselves. At one point, an argument breaks out over who should get the 12' natural. JuBBle wins. After bitching a little bit about how he "lost 400 minerals" Basic got over his tizzy fit and consoled himself with the 3 expansions he already had.

At the same time, PeonStar has taken his mineral-only, and is mining full tilt out of his natural. Poltergeist is trying to rebuild, and has worked his way almost to zerglings! Looks like PeonStar will be stuck without a partner for some time still though...

JuBBle, not pleased about the idea of PeonStar taking his mineral-only, sends down a force of dragoons to put an end to it. The dragoons lose horribly to PeonStar's massed tanks, but not before taking the command center with them (which PeonStar promptly rebuilds).

Ok, Back to The Action

With one foot out of the grave...
The next offensive move, surprisingly, is made by Poltergeist. Noticing Basic's undefended natural expansion, he sends up a force of 24 leglings to knock it out. He meets no resistance, and the expansion is destroyed.

PeonStar, not wanting to be left out of the fun, mobilizes his gigantic tank army and heads out towards JuBBle's main. He runs into a small pack of dragoons, which are liquified in about the time it takes for a tank to unseige. With this small annoyance out of the way, he heads on towards JuBBle's 12' mineral-only expansion... Where he runs into a hugeass pack of zealots and templar. The battle is epic, with PeonStar losing by the barest margin. I can't even describe this battle, just check out the collage below.
Wow, what can I say.

Expansion: Denied
Hoping for a new expansion, PeonStar constructs a command center and sends it lumbering over to the bottom-right island expansion. Unfortunately, it runs into a small fleet of scouts and corsairs, and despite it's best efforts to run back to a safe area or land, it is blown ignominiously out of the sky. PeonStar is surely feeling the resource crunch now, as his main has been entirely mined out and he is being forced to share his natural with his partner, Poltergeist. Unless he can take back some of the resource nodes from Basic or JuBBle, he simply won't be able to keep up with their unit count.

It is at this time that Basic reveals what technology he has been pursuing: Scouts! Why? Well, he had 4 expansions, had to find some way to waste all that money.

The Beginning of the End

Planning on putting an end to PeonStar once and for all, JuBBle and Basic assemble their massive armies, Zealots/Goons and Scouts, respectively. Once their massive host has finally assembled, they patrol-move the horde into PeonStar's natural, blowing past the defenses of the mineral-only like a tank going through a paper wall. The battle is amazing. Firebats in bunkers, massive armies of M&M and tanks on ledges batter the protoss ground, but what finally turns the battle is the scouts. They help remove the tanks, and distract the terran defenses, allowing the ground forces free reign. With his natural in tatters, and his main about to follow suit, PeonStar concedes the game, Potergeist following suit shortly after.
The Final Laying-of-the-smack-down

Final Comments

First, congratulations to all the players. All the participants played well, and gave me a nice game to watch. Special props to PeonStar who, even after his partner had been knocked out, continued to fight, and almost gave his opponents a run for their money.

Final Scores!
