Surprisingly, someone joined very quickly.
Map: Binary Burghs
Players:
Stupendous_Man(me), zerg (chosen), top right
Phoenix(88) (I think) zerg(random), bottom left
I started with a 10/9 pool build. I sent my overlord to scout, and passed his coming to scout me on the way. Once my pool finished, I quickly morphed 6 zerglings. At his base I could see that his build was similar to mine. At this point I decided to take a chance and sent a drone to the mid-right expansion and started my second hatchery. While I do this, I sent my first six lings to harass him, and meet with 6 of his zerglings coming to do the same to me. This mini-battle ended with him having two zerglings left. I had mine on attack move, he must have microed.
His two lings proceed to my base, but are destroyed by the single sunken I had. I quickly started morphing more lings. Before they were done, he sent six more lings and attacked my spawning pool (which due to poor base planning was not protected by the sunken), so I had to wait for my lings to finish. When they did, i killed his lings, and built another sunken to guard the other side of my base.
I see that in his base, he still doesnt have a second hatchery. So upgrade speed for lings, I build more lings and scatter them to all the expansion sites. I cover the air-only expansions in the other two corners with OL.
He keeps sending groups of 6 or so lings to my base, but they are easily destroyed by superior numbers and sunkens.
While fighting off his harassment and covering the expansions, I managed to upgrade to a lair. I researched speed for overlords and started building a spire. I also built two evo chambers and started upgrading my lings.
I sent a group of 12 lings just to see what kind of defense he had at his main. He had about 5 sunkens, 6 or so hydras, and about 12-15 lings.
At about now, my spire finished and I started morphing 3 mutas. Also my ventral sacs finished, so I took drones to the top left expansion, bottom right, and middle. I started an expansion in the top left. About five minutes later I started one in the bottom right. Another five minutes later I started one in the middle.
At this point, he attacks with hydras and lurkers at my mid right expansion. But my 12 mutas, 24 lings, and 3 sunkens at that base destroy the feeble attack.
Lets take stock. At this point I have my main (which now has a hive and 2 hatcheries), 4 expansions, about 70 3/2 adrenal gland lings, and about 30 1/1 mutas. He has yet to expand. I havent even seen an attempt to expand. He has finally started muta production, as a group of 6 hit my bottom right expansion, but they were easily chased off. I decided to go ahead and try to end it.
I first send in my lings, then my mutas. I see that at some point he finally put up a second hatchery. He had 5 sunkens, a spire, hydra den, spawning pool, and a lair. He only had 1 patch of minerals left. He also had about 8 or so mutas, about 12 hydras, and 20 or so lings. Nothing was upgraded. Needless to say, I destroyed his base without much problem.
We exchanged gg's, and he asked me to share vision, which I did.
Lesson learned:
1. Map control is the key to winning.
2. ALWAYS expand, or at least make the attempt.
3. As zerg, the muta/ling combo rocks. |
