xld.aldogrez [Protoss] vs Rawl [Terran]
Hello all! This is my first BR, so try to bear with me. People usually hate
introductions... (some like them), so the next parahraph is an intro, so
skip that if you want to see the game!
Hey, I'm not really a person that can sit and do a 5 day battlereport and
make it really damn spiffy like Breeze does (like No Mercy). I mean
I like to read really cool BR's with sweet pics, but there aren't enough
BR's, so until people will submit more BR's... it's up to me to make up for
the lost BR's. Well, without any further adeau, on with the game! (I
think that's how you spell it).
Our 2 combatants are xld.aldogrez,
now xld, and Rawl. They both randomed, and xld got the mighty protoss while
Rawl got the terran force. The game is played on Lost Temple, and I won't
make some stupid comment about Lost Temple being overplayed. Rawl's Command
Center lands at the 3 o'clock starting position, while xld's Nexus warps
in at 6 o'clock. Rawl decides to do a "standard" depot, barracks, and then
another depot[is this a wall in?]. Xld also does a "standard" build, by build
a pylon, and a gateway... pretty standard opening. Xld waits a little, because
he does not know what his opponents race is yet. Xld scouts the base closest
to him, which is the 9 o'clock base, and finds nothing. Rawl, however, decides
to scout to the 6 o'clock base first instead of the 12 o'clock and finds
his opponent. At the sight of his opponent's race, Rawl makes a refinery,
as does xld (he makes an assimilator instead of a refinery).
In seeing what their opponents' races are, both players decide on what they
want to do. Rawl sees that xld is teching so he decides to tech too. When
xld finds that Rawl has walled himself in, he realizes that he is teching.
At the time, I am sure xld thought Rawl was going heavy metal because most
people go heavy metal vs. protoss after walling themselves in. Both of them
decide to tech. Xld warps in a cybernetics core, and a citadel of adun soon
after, while Rawl decides to build a factory. Xld adds another gateway, and
Rawl gets an academy? Yes. Rawl's choice of the game is mass infantry (good
ol' Heartcutting deep six). Even though Rawl is going "deep six", he gets
the addon and makes a tank to stop any goon rush xld might have done because
xld made an early cybernetics core. Rawl also gets an engineering bay, to
make upgrade his infantry. Once xld has 3 goons, he moves out to his natural,
and warps in a pylon and a nexus.
After Rawl's academy is done, he makes a comsat station, and scans xld's
main right after. Xld, however, gets... no way, a templar archives. A "standard"
dark templar rush (even though it's a little late). Yeah, almost every protoss
player gets dark templars vs. terran. It's just the "hip" thing to do! Anyways,
Rawl gets a second factory and a starport, but soon cancels the factory.
Instead of the second factory, he decides
to make a command center. Rawl makes the command center inside of his base,
so when he is done with it he can float it to his natural. Soon after xld's
Nexus is finished warping in, he maynards a bunch of probes to his natural.
I wonder why we call it "maynarding"... I mean I bet you someone else invented
it before him. Maybe he's the first "famous" player to do that. Whatever...
back to the game.
As I said before, xld gets 2 dark templars and sends them to Rawl. At the
exact second xld's dark templars reach Rawl, he constructs a turret. While
xld beats on a barracks, Rawl's turret finishes and scares away the dark
templars. Xld retreats the dark templars to Rawl's natural, and keeps them
there. Even though
xld didn't
kill Rawl, he saw the medics and the 1 tank. Xld now realized that he was
going mass infantry while teching hard, so he decided to get a robotics facility.
Xld also gets 2 forges for dual upgrades, and only upgrades the weapons and
armor the whole game. Meanwhile, Rawl hasn't been idle. He's got a dropship
full of 3 marines, 1 scv, and 1 tank heading to xld's natural's cliff. Rawl
sets up a bunker before he sieges the tank, and then fills the bunker up
with 3 marines and sieges the tank. The marines and tank pick of about 6
probes before xld realizes what's happening, and xld quickly takes his probes
off from mining. Xld has just started making a shuttle from his robotics
facility, obviously hoping to un-turbo-newbie his natural.
Xld now adds 2 more gateways and expands
to the 9 o'clock main, building 2 cannons above the ramp, bringing his gateway
count to 4, and his expansion count to 2 (3 bases in total including his
main). Rawl, also, decides to do the same and expands to his natural by floating
his command center from his main to his natural, but xld's 2 dark templars
are still there, so he has to bring his command center back. Xld drops 2
zealots and 1 dragoon, with his shuttle he just finished building, on his
ledge to save his natural, but only kills the tank before his troops are
destroyeed by the marines in the bunker. This is good because xld's nexus
is on fire, and killing the tank slowed down Rawl from killing his nexus.
Rawl decides to add 4 more barrackses and an engineering bay, while securing
the cliff even more by dropping some marines and medics and another tank.
Once xld's new expansion at 9 o'clock is done, he maynards his probes from
his turbo-newbied natural to there. Rawl, feeling confident (I guess), adds
another barracks, bringing the total count to 6. Six barrackses constantly
pumping infantry is a lot of infantry. Rawl also takes his natural with ease
(remember there were 2 dark templars there), by bringing a science vessel
there and killing the dark templars with his marines.
Rawl builds a wraith and starts to scout the map, finding xld's expansion
at 9 o'clock. At the same time, xld gets back his natural, by dropping a
lot of zealots and dragoons on his cliff. In a battle, there are always losses
that come with a victory, because Rawl drops 2 dropships full of marines
and medics in xld's 9 o'clock expansion. Ouch. Xld gets pretty pissed because
he lost his expansion (he was warping in 2 gateways there), and adds 3 more
gateways (bringing him to a total of 7 gateways). *Note: there have been
no high templars made so far.* Rawl constructs a command center in
his base, obviously hoping to float it out to an expansion.
Both sides have been building up, with marines and medics and dragoons and zealots, there are a lot of units waiting
for blood. So both players move their forces to the middle, where a huge battle occurs. I think the only micro was the science vessels d-matrixing a firebat and a tank. Never the less, many losses were taken, but xld comes
out the victor for that battle. With the remaining dragoons he has, xld sends
them to attack Rawl. Unfortunately for xld, Rawl has 3 seiged tanks, 2 of
which are on his ledge in his main, while the other one tank is in his mineral
line at his natural, and a handful or marines and medics, so xld loses all
of his dragoons, only killing a few marines and medics. Lets take a little
recap of everything: Rawl has 6 barracks, 1 factory, and 1 starport while
xld has 7 gateways, 2 forges, yet no high templars. Rawl gets his pesky dropship
once more and loads it up with some M&M's (no, not really the chocolate
candy, I mean marines and medics!), and drops them in xld's main. He manages
to kill a cybernetics core and a gateway before his marines and medics are
killed by dragoons.
Even though Rawl has fewer bases then xld, xld lost his cybernetics core,
and is forced to build only zealots. To this very day I'm not quite sure
why xld didn't build any high templars... Rawl pumps out tons of marines
and medics and firebats (remember, 6 barrackses), which unfortunately for
xld, owns zealots. Soon after the cybernetics core was destroyed, Rawl killed
xld with Heartcutter's "famous" deep six.
Rawl emerged the victor from a very well played game. I didn't get a screen
shot of the scores, because personally I don't care about the scores ;).
I think only the game matters. Both of these players gave a very good game,
so don't say "XLD SUCKED" or "RAWL WAS A DAMN NEWB", because probably this
battle reports made them look worse than they really are, if it did at all.
It was a good game, and I'm glad they played.
| LESSONS LEARNED: |
| 1) High templars are your friend. |
| 2) Upgrades own a lot. Altough xld did lose, his 3-0-3 dragoons and zealots
owned the marines because they were doing an extra 6 damage. |
| 3) Protect your expansion, not just the ramp but the mineral line too. |
| 4) Protoss vs. Terran actually can be a very good game, you just gotta
be able to play it right. |
| 5) You don't always have to go heavy metal in PvT. |
Comments and such are welcome (of course). Hmmm ... Try to keep the flames
to a minimum because I don't really care about the number of comments I get.
Good day yo~!
NOTE: This BR took me like 3 hours to write and 5 hours to submit! God I hate these submitting things.
ANOTHER NOTE: WLJ owns I'm sorry but he does ^^ Good Night ALL!
