Lifetime Rating for Ativus: 6.2000 |  | Okay, It was the new map that is set on the snow, with raised starts, a large center expansion, several smaller expansion points, and ramps to all valuabe raised ground. Ice Floes I think. I was Red Terran (Random) and he was Blue (Zerg, selected) I thought I was dead at the start, since his win/loss was something like 100/4 and mine was 37/27 at the time. His name used a whole bunch of ASCII symboly around Ace, so I'll call him Ace.
I started with a rax at my ramp choke, assisted soon afterwards by a bunker and a depot, placed so there was a gap wide enough for tanks if I moved my Rax. Soon after the depot was finished, 12 lings tried to charge up my ramp, but the one Marine in the bunker managed to hold off the assault with two SCV repairing the bunker. He knew my race now though, so I quickly set about building a factory and getting tanks. My front rax had been replaced by my E-bay at this point, and I had also put turrets at my choke defense and in my peon line. A also built a bunker in there, but left it empty.
As my third tank popped out of my factory, and OL made a beeline for my SCV's. The three turrets managed to shoot it down, but not before it dropped a lurker. It was quickly dispatched by my tanks however, and no damage was done. At this point, I remembered I had not built an academy yet, so after I whacked myself in the head a few times, I built one, simultaneously with my starport. As I was doing that, about 36 lings threw themselves at my choke defense, to no avail. When the academy finished, I built an armory, and a second starport. My new comsat revealed he had fully expanded to the center, mining it with two hatches, and a good number of sunkens. No Hydra's but quite a few lurkers.
He tried to drop some more OL's in my base (which was pretty badly mined out) but my marines and turrets took them out before they dropped their loads (they kept trying to get in back of my base, had they dropped in the front, they might have done something) As soon as my starports had fninshed, I made two valks while I built a Sci-Facility. They finished just right, and I made two SV's. Comsat had shown his bases well covered with lurkers, and that he had taken one more expansion. There were 2 mineral only and one with gas left. Soon, I had an expansion force of three valks, 3 SV's, 1 dropship each of SCV, Marines, and Meds, and I took the last gas expansion, which had only three mineral patches. As my defenses finished, a huge group of muta's attacked my main. About 20 of them. I sent all three vessels and SV's, and survived with two vessels and one SV. I was mining full speed from my new expansion, so I popped another fleet of SV's and valks (about six each).
He now made what I think was a bigl error, he sent about 120 lings at my main's choke. I had eight SCV's repairing the bunker while tanks blasted away at them. I eventually lost the bunker, and about eight marines before I stopped the attack. I replaced the lost forces quickly, and comsatted him once more. His main was deserted, and he had doubled up on tech at his expansions. The only open spot was the mineral only right below my main, which I now grabbed since my other expansion had fallen out of resources. I was in an interesting spot of having lots of gas and few minerals, so I chose the Covert Ops addon for my Sci Facility and began plans to nuke. I didn't want to build any more depots though, so I got together my three dropships, loaded two with marines and one with meds, and d-matrixed them. I landed them on his main, and wiped it out. He sent a pity force of 12 lings and 12 hydra's to save it, but my stimmed marines won the day with few casualities. So, the attack was a success, but it didn't do what I wanted it to, which was free up supply for my nukes. I broke down and built two more depots for them instead and brought the force home.
No sooner had my dropships arrived back at base then about a million Scourge flew over my base and took out ALL of my air. 5 vessels, six valks, three transports. Half of my attack force managed to unload before the dropships blew up. now I had no air, and no mobile decectors. Every resource node was empty, except the one at his mineral only, which still had about 3000 in my estimation. I had about 3000/4000 in the bank though, so I wasn't done yet. I had killed most of the scourge, and I placed my marines around my starport while I patiently waited for two new SV's. He kept sending single lings up my ramp at my choke, so my tanks were constantly firing. Turned out to be a great distraction, and I didn't get the under attack message until he had pertty much wiped out my choke defense. He was having trouble with my depot wall though, so I tossed my nuke at his forces going at my choke. he didn't even stop attacking, I guess he thought I was nuking his base or something, but the nuke took out his attack force. I was really amazed.
I d-matrixed two ghosts and dropped them on the raised ground above his prime base now, and nuked again. He sent a muta force, but they attacked the wrong ghost first, and the targeting one's matrix held until the nuke landed. Comsat had earlier revealed that all his lurkers were in that base, and another one showed alot of blood there. He was out of troops, and resources, and I just walked my ghost through his base, nuking everything in sight. He surrendered, and we said GG. I left one hatch for a while and we chatted, he told me he was trying zerg for the first time in a while, he was mainly toss. He commented that he should have been more agressive, and how he was originally teching for guardians, but when his lings found me as terran, he went lurkers, but it was late and he didn't get them to my base in time. Then he left, and I took my hard earned victory =)
