Note: I don't remember anyone's name. I joined a random game. Sorry about this, guys!

Map: Killing Fields

Teams: Me (Prot) + White (Prot)

vs. Red (Prot) + Teal (Terran)

Locations: Teal at bottom, Red at left, White at top, Me at right. (no corner start locations)

I'm an early expansion freak. I'll admit it. I go early forge/photon, and quickly make an expansion bottom-right, defending it ASAP. What I don't expect is my partner to do the same and take bottom left. So there we are, quick expansions in hand, no sign of offensive movement by the opponents (one had a 2-9 record), and I figure, hey, this will be easy. Piece o' cake. We'll just mass em and whack em.

Damn, was I ever wrong.

Teal kills White's early expansion with marines/bats. I send 4 zealots to go help, but early zealots are too slow and the nexus is destroyed before I get there. So, I figure, Teal doesn't have any D, I'll go down there and crunch him. And what do I see? Bats/Medics/Vultures! Perfect Zealot eliminators! "Is this guy stats hacking?", I say IRL before I ran the little prots back home.

White decides to grab the expansion top-left. I'm teching, going Cybercore-Citadel when I think "Hey, maybe some Corsairs would do me good." So I make a couple of sairs, and generally tech up, then make another expand near me.

Teal sends two tanks and some Vultures to piss off my bottom-right expansion, I send zeals that manage to kill one tank, a DT kills the other tank, and the expansion is still pretty much in business. I make Probes to replace the ones lost and it's no big deal, although it did make me wonder how much Teal was going factory.

I've got minerals, I've got two Gates, I'm going carriers, and life is good. Teal tries to take bottom left and White axes it with Goons. I send some carriers to help.

Then out of nowhere comes ten red carriers, more upgraded than mine! "Oh.. crap.", I mutter. We ended up in a fight and obviously, I lost it, but I did take out a couple of his carriers first. I'm looking at White and not seeing much. I make two more expansions- one on the raised jungle way bottom-right and the semi-top-right starting point.

Then I figure "Scouts. I'll go Scouts and beat him that way." Well, I start go mass scouts, even make an Arby, then.. Carriers come in and start pummeling my base! I mutter, get the limited forces I have, and Stasis a few while scouts/carriers/one mind control/storm do the rest. It wasn't enough. My forces lost and the expansion was destroyed. I see an expansion of his in the middle, get mad, and send nine zealots to beat it. The Zealots die to wraiths after causing some havoc.

Red sends the carriers to my bottom right base after a bit and I storm them several times. Most of them are destroyed and the rest, except one, are severely damaged. The expansion is destroyed anyway. I send scouts to kill the rest; the scouts fail. I make a lot more Scouts.

Then oh crap, here comes Teal!! "Nuclear Launch Detected" is the first thing I hear- when I move my scouts away from where I think the dot is, I see he has an army of cloaked wraiths, along with vultures and tanks! I run my scouts to the south-east in a panic. Fortunately, I move my stuff away from the blast, and not many of my units die to it. I try to get an observor into position for the fighting between scouts and wraiths- I finally make it. He manages to EMP some of my scouts.

It is at this point where I thank whoever balanced SC for Scouts' air-to-air advantages over Wraiths. I have somewhat better upgrades and win the air battle by quite a bit. The rest of his forces are ground-only and I kill most of them, the rest running away.

Then I see White has 10 carriers! I sigh with relief. I make two more gateways and begin pumping out air units like crazy. Scouts, Corsairs, Carriers. He sends the carriers, but I can't help him in the 2v1 on Red's left base- White and Red have a carrier fight for a while, Red has better upgrades but Goliaths are sent by Teal to aid Red. White loses, but not before scoring heavy losses on both Red and Teal. White sends Dragoons to end Red's life.

Then here I come, with one arbiter. I recall to the plateau expansion that Teal took, taking six corsairs, six carriers, an observor, three temps, and a zealot with me. (I wonder what the zealot was thinking?) The army comes, sees, and conquers. Teal's goliaths are not on the plateau, their very stupid AI is running them around, and the Templar storm them down. I see he has Ghosts and kill them first- dunno if he has any Lockdown or not. He sends a large flight of Wraiths, but anyone who's seen Corsair+Templar vs Wraith fights in the past knows what happens. The wraiths die quickly. Somehow he got my Observor and I send two more. He uses a couple of wraiths to kill a carrier, then they die as well. Corsairs dis web most of Teal's turrets, he's basically at my mercy (WHAT mercy?!) and I know it's over. Red is dying horribly. Teal eventually leaves as the five remaining carriers, plus a few more I send, butcher him.

Then it's time to clean up Red, I go to his island expansion, and his temps kill a few of my carriers and my arbiter before I blow him to kingdom come.

And I thought I'd lost that game when Red's carriers came.

Lessons:

1. Panic. It helps.
2. Templar do well against mass anything, including Carriers.
3. Expand, but don't forget to spend money. (this is a critical flaw of mine)
4. Your opponents/allies/yourself are all Homo Sapiens. (Humanity is a relative term.)
5. Never underestimate the carrier - especially after 1.04.
