Dire Staits
This was one of the most funny and yet annoying games that I have ever played. Bear with me as my lack of screenshots was an unfortunate comp crash, but I hope it works out okay. I started a 1-1 ‘for new people’ game, and was quickly joined by Sk8erKc. I hoped this would be fun game, and give me a quick jump-start into the wonderful world of battlereports.com. It was anything but, and turned on me into one of the most embarrassing of my time.
Me, the newbiest of newbies (in my time) chose Zerg, my personal favorite. I started in the 10 o’clock position, with Sk8erKc as Terran. He proceeded to ask me ‘no rush’. No rush, I agreed. I had decided to go for a mid game hydra/ling drop with a couple of mutas in for air support. I was building along my merry way when my lord came upon a protoss outpost in the top right. My thought immediately crossed to an ‘eww. . zerg vs. toss on islands. . .’ but I would try to hold my own. As I hovered over his nexus, he expressed his disgruntlement. He proceeded to tell me that scouting with overlords in cheep, and that I should move the scout if I wanted to keep playing with him. I asked him why,
Well, when one is faced with that logic, I must say I’m very humbled. I swiftly moved the lumbering hulk, which was a good thing, as two dragoons popped out of their respective gateways and began pumping the great fat one full of hot plasma-bolts.
Now, however, I had slowly climbed the tech tree and had positioned some of the other lord-high fat ones with their newfound speed upgrade around the map at my planned expansion sites.
At this point I had grown about 6 hydralisks and 24 zerglings, and m spire was nearing completion, as well as 3 hatcheries and a few creep colonies. I was just finishing my ‘carrying’ and ‘sight range’ upgrades when a great surprise appeared to my eyes: Sk8erKc seemed to have stolen my idea! Two dragoons, a zealot and a scout had appeared at the undefended tip of my main base. My zerglings mad short work of the goons, but when the scout reinforcements arrived, and my pitiful little army was all but gone, I though all was lost. However, Sk8erKc pulled back and I was allowed some breathing room.
Also, at this point I had expanded to my natural and my buildings were nearing completion, I thought I had it made for a great game when 4 more scouts arrived at my pitifully undefended base. For up until now, I had relied on my lords, hydras and 2 spore colonies for defense. I hoped my expansion could pull me through.
Then, a miraculous and dissapointing thing happened. The horrible disconnect. Curses, said I, I do not want to win this way. But as the timer ticked down and it became apparent that I was not going to get him back, I sighed and relaxed in my chair. Damn.
Oh well, I am sorry for the lack of action, and I hope this gave all you good players a laff. Drefsab, u especially have inspired many a chuckle, and many a “fall off chair and roll on the floor”. Thanks u guys!
