Lifetime Rating for 'Final`Flare':

Upon entering the Clan ~NoHunters channel, I see a familiar name: Klietus. We had never actually met on battle.net, but we knew each other from the battle.net forums. I cheerfully greet him and ask for a game. He accepts. The first game we played was too bad to report, and neither of us played too well because of the lag.

After taking a few moments to fix my lag problems. I (Now known as 'Final`Flare') ask him for a second game. Once again, he agreed...

Well, we're playing on... it's not temple... it's... Wasteland!
You want ALT text?!

Wasteland is a 4 player map with positions in the southwest, northwest, northeast, and southeast near the corners. The naturals are immediately between starting spots, thus you must war for your expansions. Plus their are 2 connected islands in the center, which none of the players know about so they don't really matter in this game.

'Final`Flare' finishes warping in a random white Protoss Nexus in the north-western starting position. His 4 probes quickly gather round and wait for their master to issue their first order.

Meanwhile...

Klietus' chosen Terran Command Center lands in a cloud of dust, in the north-east position. Much to his delight, his color is yellow! The SCVs quickly find their way outside and await their orders from Klietus respectively.

Early Game Stuff

'Final`Flare' busied himself by building a pylon with his 8th peon, and a gateway with his 9th. Next he threw down an assimilator and started harvesting gas with 3 probes and builds a Cybernetics Core. As you can see 'Final`Flare' was opting to tech. While his buildings were busy warping themselves in, and his probes busy gathering minerals for their master, 'Final`Flare' scouted with a single, idle, probe.

Klietus went straight to heavy metal with minimal defenses, taking advantage of the fact that neither of the players knew the map. He built a depot on 7 supply, a barracks on 9, and followed up with a refinery and a factory. He places 2 bunkers behind his buildings which formed to be a wall in front of his CC. He follows up by sending a peon in 'Final`Flare's general direction for the obvious scouting reasons.

The two peons coincidentally passed each other about exactly halfway between each others bases. Klietus' SCV went passed 'Final`Flare's base, and returned realizing there was an opening there. After the SCV got a quick look around, he went back home to tell everybody what he saw.
'Final`Flare's probe went passed the enemy base and didn't bother to go back. After zigzagging all over the map, he finally went back home with the sad news. Shortly after, 'Final`Flare' dispatched him to look at a small opening that he missed and he found Klietus joyfully. Sadly, Mr. Probe arrived just as Klietus' first vulture finished. The vulture hungrily tore through the probes small sheet of armor and grimaced seeing the first blood...

After building another pylon, gateway, and some probes, 'Final`Flare' creates 3 zealots and places them in front of his buildings. He continues to mine and starts producing dragoons out of both gates, while Klietus... is researching mines and creating vultures. As each player gets ready to start their own small offensives, the early game ends.

Mid-Game - The offenses

Klietus gets the bright idea to mine the choke point that lies between him and the enemy, keeping the expansion on his side.Still no ALT text...
If you see the white specs on the minimap, it is 'Final`Flare's attack force heading north. Anyway, 'Final`Flare's attack force of 3 zealots and 3 dragoons procede through the mines with no losses. As they arrive at Klietus' base, many are destroyed by mines. We are down to 3 goons and they all separate and get literally owned by the bunkers. Well, so much for that attack.

There is some peace while each player attempts to build up their forces. 'Final`Flare' Adds a Citadel of Adun, a 3rd gateway, and a Robotics Facility to his base.
Observer: Bleep Bleep 'Final`Flare': You say you saw a base? Observer: BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!Sadly, at this point 'Final`Flare' had accumulated around 500 minerals, and to make things worse, his nexus wasn't making probes! Anyway. 'Final`Flare' sends a lone probe up to the expansion between his own and Klietus' base, just as some vultures are coming down the choke point and laying mines. So long Mr. Probe =( Some tanks come from Klietus' base ready to seige up and push in on 'Final`Flare'. The 6 vultures lay about 2 mines in his choke and run into his base, trying to draw the dragoons into the mines. The dragoons give chase, but are caught by their master and pulled back. After seeing the vultures several more times, 'Final`Flare' comes to his senses and puts the goons on hold while he gets his gateways pumping. He also remembers his nexus and pumps probes from it. Klietus, after losing several vultures, also comes to his senses and stops, although he doesn't withdraw his forces. Two tanks seige up outside 'Final`Flare's choke and the vultures try once more to lure the goons into these, but fail. Klietus, determined to win here, brings an SCV and some reinforcements down to assist in the push. During the time that the vultures were attempting to attack him, 'Final`Flare' sent a lone probe down to the southwest starting position to expand. The probe places a nexus, 2 pylons, and a cannon.
IMBALANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After setting up his expansion, 'Final`Flare' gets his 1st observer and sends it to check the status on his containment. 'Final`Flare's real bright micromanagement brings the observer right into a newly constructed turret... D'oh! He decides that the containment is getting dangerous, so he attacks without detection =( 'Final`Flare's 8 or so goons destroy the containment, but take severe damage due to mines and end up with only 2 or 3 goons, which he sends to try to scout Klietus' main, but 2 are killed due to mines. The third goon finds another mine, and decides not to scout. He hides behind the natural expansions minerals, at the direct north of the map. Its quite sad, but the dragoon never found any expansions being built there. Anyway.

Klietus is disappointed in his failed push, and sends more vultures to the choke, along with more tanks. As the vultures are laying mines, they see an unusual sight. They find about 6 white probes moving southwards. 'Final`Flare' gets a tad bit worried when he sees the probes going near the vultures. Then he realizes he ATTACK-MOVED the probes to the expo! The probes stop to kill a vulture before 'Final`Flare' sets them back on their course.

Klietus doesn't risk any of his forces to follow the probes, but he obviously knows theres an expo...
Back at 'Final`Flare's choke, Final grabs his goons and gets ready to own the containment... and this time remembers to bring along an observer and keep it far from the battle. Klietus won't be discouraged again, he brings in his huge reinforcing force consisting of 1 tank, 1 marine, and 2 or 3 vultures, all coming about 5-10 seconds apart! After the initial goons were reduced to about 2, 3 more joined their brethren and finished off this 2nd push.

Back at 'Final`Flare's expansion, he notices all of his maynarded probes sitting in a circle around his nexus. D'oh! How'd that happen? Anyway, he focuses somewhat on his exp and gets some intake, however not much. One of his biggest errors of this game was not building enough probes.

'Final`Flare' looks back to his choke and notices that he missed some of the reinforcements. Theres a tank... and a... goliath! 'Final`Flare' takes a mental note that goliaths have entered the game. He also leaves one of his surviving goons in the corner of his choke to prevent any future pushes. He takes the observer that had spotted mines for him, and brings it up to Klietus' base, where it finds a Command Center being built. 'Final`Flare' brilliantly tells it to follow the Command Center everywhere it goes.

And sure enough, the Command Center took flight and headed Southeast of Klietus' base. 'Final`Flare' immediately recognized where it was headed and grabbed about 8 goons for the job. Instead of taking the "short" way through the middle of Klietus' main, Final had the dragoons go all the way around the southern part of the map. Near his expansion, 'Final`Flare' encountered some goliaths, tanks, and vultures. Must be hunting for his expansion? The dragoons proceded, losing few of their number. The goons passed by an area where a yellow SCV was sitting, but 'Final`Flare' didn't notice. The goons came to the expansion a little too soon. The dragoons started hammering on the Command Center as it hovered over the minerals. The goons inflincted as much damage as possible before the CC had been floated out of reach, but the observer was still intact! The dragoons were then led by 'Final`Flare' to Klietus' main where they died quite miserably.

'Final`Flare' went back to focusing his macro at his main, until he spotted the Command Center moving again........

End Game - Down to the wire

'Final`Flare' grabbed about 8 dragoons and once again led them all the way around the southern end of the map. The dragoons once again passed the area where the SCV sat, but... it was building a CC! Once again 'Final`Flare' took no notice and went on. One of his goons got to the expansion early and was microing around 4 SCVs until the others came.

Klietus got the bright idea to attack at this time, and, taking the time out to kill the dragoon on watch, once again seiged up. The tanks, goliaths, and vultures hammered on 'Final`Flare's main while Final finishes owning Klietus' expansion.

'Final`Flare's goons move up into the enemy base. They encounter some goliaths which are easily reduced to metal shards. It's now down to the wire... 'Final`Flare' is owning Klietus' main and vice versa...Down to the wire... mmm... wires are good. 'Final`Flare': Will that be telephone, electric, or cable? Klietus finishes razing Finals base before 'Final`Flare' razes his, so he seems ahead in the war... but he doesn't know where the expansion IS... 'Final`Flare' soon finishes Klietus' base off and moves south, to the place where a yellow dot is displayed on his minimap. When 'Final`Flare's forces arrive, he finds more than a single dot. Whoa, he sees 2-3 factories and some other stuff lying around. 2 tanks, surrounded by SCVs are able to kill all of the goons before they can do anything.

Klietus locates the expo and gets ready to destroy it but 'Final`Flare' wasn't just razing his base, he had been macroing too... 7 zealots are able to take care of everything except for 1 goliath, which wanders into the cannon at 'Final`Flare's expansion. Final takes his probes off the minerals and sends them, with 1 zealot and 1 goon, to take care of Klietus. It doesn't prove to be enough and fails miserably.

Klietus pumps out a mixture of tanks, goliaths, and rarely, a vulture... but meanwhile...

'Final`Flare' uses one of his last probes to lay down 3 gateways and queue each to full capacity with his (UGHHH) 3000 minerals. As 'Final`Flare' waits for them to finish, he just stares at his computer screen wondering who will win...

The forces are sent.... and they prove successful. Klietus raises the white flag and surrenders. GG Klietus!

Scores and Such

Nooope, no structures section =)
(Apply to both of us) Things to do better: --Spend money better, faster
--More peons
--Expand earlier
--Expand more
--Drop more
--scout entire map, including for islands ;)

We are by far not gosu experts but this was a great, great game.
Very evenly matched, challenging etc.
Watch the replays section for the replay!
Hope you had a fun read on my 2nd BR. =)
