Lifetime Rating for ~Fenix~: 5.0000 |  | This battle report will take you to the familiar vista of: The Lost Temple. Since my monitor is busted so bad I can barely see to type this, no pics. I cant see well enough to do them and make them look nice, and half my pics never load anyway. New monitor on Friday I hope and I'll fix the pics thing in my next report if I have to sit there for eight hours until they all load, nice and grainy just for the loving people at BR.com.
Anyway, today ~Fenix~(SR) (me), heads up against [Newblar] (not me). I hope this will help you understand that I am ~Fenix~(SR), and [Newblar] is just another geek (just like me, but not me) who got a name on B.Net looking like a certain famous player's name.
After three weeks of being off StarCraft, I was itching for a game where I wouldn't get stomped too bad, and even maybe win. I knew [Newblar] provided these games, at a very reasonable price, and both of us were surprised at how the game turned out.
[Newblar] Randoms off to Yellow Zerg at twelve. Fenix curses the Random Gods as he's presented with a blue Nexus and four robot-things (probes, right?) at 8. And so begins the:
BATTLE FOR THE CLIFFS (kinda lame, eh?)
[Newblar] sets his four drones to different clusters (how gosu), and goes Hatchery at ramp, Pool, Sunken at ramp, 6 Lings, Gas. Two of the Lings are sent to scout, his first OL finding the empty 2 o'clock main.
Fenix, meanwhile, sent his four Probes to the same cluster (I haven't played in 3 weeks, please dont hurt me), then got a Pylon, Gate, Zealot, Pylon, Zealot, Gas, Gate, Cyber Core. Once again, I haven't played in three weeks.
After placing the Zealots on the ramp, where they chewed the scouting Ling into bloody pieces (not only are Zealots, fat, slow slobs, they are messy killers), Fenix climbed the tech as fast as he could, laying down a Citadel of Adun, another Pylon at his ramp, a Forge, and a Robotics Facility, along with 2 more Zealots and a Dragoon. A cannon was soon placed at the ramp, and a Zealot was sent out to find the offending Zerg.
Although he spent most of this time asleep, [Newblar] did put down another Hatchery, two sunkens by his mineral line to protect from drops, and expanded to his natural, getting a Hydralisk Den and beginning construction on a Lair, a large Zergling army placed at his ramp and natural.
Fenix meanwhile, had placed another Gateway down, and had +1 Attack Upgrade, Zealot Speed, and Dragoon range searching. Dont ask me how, but I managed to have 400 minerals at the end of that, and plopped down a Nexus at my natural, sending my control group of 9 Zealots and 3 Dragoons down to defend the burgeoning expansion as well. A Pylon, Gateway and two Cannons were set up ASAP.
The First Battle (Took a while, didn't it)
Since massacring Bob the Zergling didn't really count as a battle, [Newblar] wanted to avenge his bud's death, and sent down a squad of 30 Zerglings and 12 Hydralisks to complain. They faced off against 11 Zealots, 6 Dragoons and 2 Cannons.
The Zealots, who had been singing Christmas carols to the Dragoons (they can only go BEEP BEEP, ya know), turned suddenly as Needle Spines impacted on their shields. Fenix hastily threw down a Shield Battery, and the finished +1 attack upgrade and Zealot Speed, along with some very very bad micro, saved the expansion with 6 Zealots (4 in the red) and 2 Dragoons.
[Newblar] took advantage of the attack to expand simultaneously to the 2 o'clock main and natural. And Fenix finally unveiled his plan as a Templar Archives was warped in, along with an Observatory. Two Shuttles had been floating around, and one was loaded with Probes from the main, the other with a Zealot, Dragoon and Probe.
The one with the Probes headed for the 5 o'clock island, the other for the cliff above [Newblar]'s main natural. It found the 2 o'clock morphing natural Hatchery, and dropped the Dragoon and Probe on the ramp, where they layed down a Pylon, three Cannons and a Gateway. They loaded up again and headed for [Newblar]'s main natural. This all, somehow, was unnoticed by [Newblar], as was the Pylon, two Cannons and Gateway (both cliff Gates were horribly placed), and Fenix took his mineral only and the 5 island.
UPGRADE UPDATE:
Fenix: 1-1-1 Protoss Ground (two Forges now)
Newblar: 1-1 Zerglings, 1-1 Hydralisks
[Newblar] had slapped down a Spire and a Queen's Nest, upgrading Ventral Sacs to upgrade his Overlords shiny Pneumatized Carapace. Then death began raining down upon both his naturals. He put down another Hatchery and the 2 Main, then loaded up 2 Overlords of Zerglings for each cliff stronghold.
Of course, [Newblar] isnt good enough to go around the cannons and two Goons on each cliff (I'm not either). All four OLs (two at each cliff) popped. Total number of Zerglings surviving to get to the ground: 3.
Of course, [Newblar] aint no slouch. He quickly expoed to his mineral only, the two mineral only, and the 8 mineral only. Soon he had 4 fully functional mining bases (not counting mined out or less than 3 clusters left), to Fenix's 2 (Fenix's main and natural were out). Fenix sends a Probe to 7- and finds the mineral only, along with the two sunkens and 25 Hydras [Newblar] stuck there.
So, 25 Zealots and 15 Dragoons steamed up to the 7 mineral only, looking for retribution for Joe, the Probe. Since [Newblar] has no skillz at all, the mineral only fell, when he had about 40 Hydras sitting four seconds away.
Newblar's plan also finally unfolds, as 8 Guardians are now being morphed. Fenix has two Stargates, Two Corsairs, and no money, for the time being. Uh-oh.
Fortunately, [Newblar] heads for the 2 o'clock natural cliff. I cannot stress this enough. The Corsairs now dont have the Zerg main, or 2 o'clock natural to go through to get to the crabs. One Guardian pops. So does a Cannon. Another Guardian. Another Cannon. One Cannon, Six Guardians. Hmmm.
Suddenly four more Corsairs burst in. Two more Guardians let out rather loud grunts and die. The rest make it to the heavily Spore Colonied 2 main.
Fenix sets up more cannons at the 2 natural, and expands to the 8 Main. Finally, [Newblar] gets more than 7 brain synapses firing at once (I normally have 4), and rapes the 12 cliff, razing the Protoss there.
RESOURCE + UPGRADE + EXPANSION + GRANDMA CHECK
Grandma's asleep. Okie dokie.
Expansions:
Fenix: 6 Main, 6 Natural, 6 Mineral Only, 5 Island, 8 Main, 8 Natural.
Newblar: 12 Main, 12 Natural, 12 Mineral Only, 2 Main, 2 Mineral Only.
Upgrades:
Fenix: 2-3-2 Ground, 3 Shield on Air.
Newblar: 3-3 Ground, 1-2 Air.
[Newblar] does some cliff trickery of his own. Guardians appear at the 8 Natural, above the cliff, with Lurkers dropped behind the line. A lone Observer sits there with a Nexus and 8 Probes mining, more on the way from the 6 Mineral-Only.
Needless to say, bye bye expansion. Then... four Carriers arrive upon the scene. The Guardians and Lurkers die, raining blood and guts everywhere. The Carriers take up residence at the 6 Mineral Only, along with the 90 some Zealots, Dragoons and DT's. The army moves up toward [Newblar]'s main, and although it tried hard to be half-decent, the game comes down to the coming battle, which will last thirty seconds if lucky. Please Strifeshadow, come out noooow!!!
No storm, no Reavers, only 4 Ultralisks. Its gonna be a slugfest in the trenches between Zealots, Goons, and DTs, facing off against Zerglings and Hydralisks, with an odd Lurker.
About 40 Scourge soon take care of the Carriers, leaving the few left floating about until someone decides to shoot them down. Below, 130 Zerg vs. 100 Protoss = about 25 Protoss left, 0 Zerg. But [Newblar] pulls his tattered army up the ramp, where attacking now would be suicide.
Fenix instead razes the 12 natural, then takes care of the 12 mineral only. He knocks on the door of the 2 main, and breaks it down. 9 Spore Colonies and 1 Sunken vs. 12 Zealots just doesnt win games. The main falls.
But [Newblar] has one last trick up his sleeve. 3 Guardians, about 20 Scourge, 4 Mutalisks, and 4 Overlords filled with Hydra/Ling fall upon the five island, decimating it with no losses. [Newblar] then moves on across the middle of the map, somehow evading my careful patrols (erm... careful), and razing the 8 natural and coming up the ramp to the main.
Now I had had about enough of this, and so had ~Fenix~ (he is me, so thats understandable). I moved my rebuilt army to the 8 main, with some dancing Corsairs killed the Scourge while losing one out of 9 (he'd spread em out so no splashie for me :(, and wiped out the army. Fenix moved up to [Newblar]'s main, wiped out the minimal ramp D, and took the game.
